  • Because of the slowdown in economic growth of developed countries, emerging countries are appearing as the new global market. Each country is paying attention to the BOP market of emerging countries to substitute for the markets of import demand of advanced countries due to the global financial crisis. Europe and Japanese corporations are set on taking over the BOP markets, highly appreciating the potential of BOP market. Now it is high time that Korea should recognize the possibility of BOP market and analyze emerging countries and set up strategic planning to react to them. China and India have the highest latent ability as emerging countries in Asia. Korea is well positioned within the market thanks to the conclusion of CEPA with India. Therefore, the government and leading conglomerates need to establish an effective model with which to advance their existing market entry strategy to approach the BOP market of India in the mid to long term. That is, they have to set up a TMB model which fits India such as marketing competence, an on-site adaptability, quick decision making, and constructing a close and customized strategy for all the social stratum of India's population. Establishing a TMB model in India will be the bridgehead to advancing the BOP market to neighboring countries which will allow us to extend our reach to other countries in South Asia and the world BOP market hereafter.

  • Korean firms are faced with the necessity of creating new markets in 21st century. Korean economy has witnessed the accelerated growth rate of trade volume during the period from the latter part of 20th century to the early part of 21st century. In recent times, Korean export volumes have been stagnated. For the second take off, Korea has to create a new ASEAN BOP market. In order to penetrate into the ASEAN BOP Market, it is necessary for exporting firms to have a partnership with ASEAN countries via ODA. In particular, Public-Private Partnership(PPP) might be seen as an effective tool to access the BOP market in ASEAN region. The international development cooperation based on PPP will establish the humanitarian values as well as economic values through the combined effort of government and business enterprises. This study suggests four kinds of business model to have a mutual cooperation between Korean firms and ASEAN markets.

  • NSSS (Nuclear Steam Supply System) and BOP (Balance of Plant) design works for PGSFR (Prototype Gen-IV Sodium Fast Reactor) have been conducted in Korea. NSSS major components, e.g. reactor vessel, steam generator and secondary sodium main pipes, are designed according to the rule of ASME boiler and pressure vessel code division 5, in which DBA (Design by Analysis) methods are used in the stress assessments. However, there is little discussions about detail rules for BOP piping design. In this paper, the detail methodologies of BOP piping stress assessment are discussed including safety systems and non-safety system pipings. It is confirmed that KEPIC MGE(ASME B31.1) and ASME BPV code division 5 HCB-3600 can be used in stress assessments of non-safety pipes and class B pipes, respectively. However, class A pipe design according to ASME BPV code division 5 HBB-3200 has many difficulties applying to PGSFR BOP design. Finally, future development plan for class A pipe stress assessment method is proposed in this paper.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between the Basic Old-Age Pension (BOP), which is a non-contributory pension, and depression in BOP beneficiaries in Korea. Methods: We used the second and third waves (2007-2008) of the Korea Welfare Panel Study to identify the effect of the BOP on mental health in the year of its introduction. The Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale, applied in a Korean context, was used to evaluate mental health. To analyze the effect of the BOP, a difference-in-difference approach was used in analyses of all subjects and subgroups. Results: For this study population of 760 adults, the BOP did not have a statistically significant relationship with depression in its beneficiaries. After controlling for type of household, the BOP was still not associated with lower reporting of depression, either in single-beneficiary or double-beneficiary households, in the year of the benefit. Conclusions: The BOP policy had no significant relationship with the level of depression among recipients. However, this should not be interpreted as implying that income subsidy programs for older adults, such as the BOP, do not affect mental health, considering the importance of economic hardship in this population and the program's socioeconomic effects.

  • The effects of phenthyl isothiocyanate(PEIFTC) on xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes and cell kinetics in the target organs for Ν-nirtosobis(2-oxopropyl) amine(BOP)-tumorigenicity were investigated in female Syrian golden hamsters in order to gain the mechanistic insigths into the chemopreventive action of PEITS against BOP-initiated lung and pancreatic carcinogenesis in hamsters. Hamsters were given BOP subcuteneo-usly(s.c.) and/or PEITC by gavage 2h prior to the BOP treatment. Eight and 24h after the PEITC administration, animals were sacrificed for analyzing P450 isoenzymes, glutathine(GSH), glutathione S-transferase(GST) and cell kinetics. The PEITC pretreatment significantly reduced the hepatic P450 isoenzume levels such as CYP2B1 and DYP1A1 which were significantly increased by the BOP treatment. However, PEITC did not affect the CYP levels in the pancreas and lung. Interestingly, the PEITC pretreatment rather lowered the heparic GST and GSH levels, regradless of BOP administration. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)- labeling indices were dose dependently decreased by PEITC in the pancreas acini and ducts, bronchioles, and renal tubules in which the cell replication was significantly affected by BOP. These results thus suggest that PEITC exerts the chemopreventive effects in hamsters by influencing xenobiotic matabolizing phase I enzymes in the liver and regulating cell kinetics in the target organs.

  • The impact of a considerable increase in traffic volume on the emission and concentrations of air pollutants was investigated at three beaches (Haeundae (HB), Gwanganri (GB), and Songjeong (SB)) in Busan during beach opening period (BOP) in 2011. During the BOP, passenger car was the major vehicle type, followed by taxi, and van. CO was the major contributor of total air pollutant emissions followed by NOx, VOC, and $PM_{10}$. For the temporal variation of the emission of air pollutants during the BOP, it was generally the highest in the afternoon followed by the evening and morning, except for SB. For the spatial variation of their emission, it was the highest at GB followed by SB and HB. The emissions of air pollutants during the BOP were generally higher than those during the Non-BOP, except for HB. In contrast, the significant impact of the traffic volume increase on the concentrations of air pollutants at monitoring sites near the three beaches during the BOP were not found compared to the Non-BOP due to the significant distances between monitoring sites of air pollutants and monitoring sites of traffic volume at the beaches.

  • Generally, the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) of a subsea Blowout Preventer (BOP) is evaluated by determining the Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD), a low demand mode evaluation indicator. However, some SIL results are above the PFD's effective area despite the subsea BOP's demand rate being within the PFD's effective range. Determining a Hazardous Event Frequency (HEF) that can cover all demand rates could be useful when establishing the effective BOP SIL. This study focused on subsea BOP functions that follow guideline 070 of the Norwegian Oil and Gas. Events that control subsea well kicks are defined. The HEF of each BOP function is analyzed and compared with the PFD by investigating the frequency for each event and the demand rate for the components. In addition, risk control options related to PFD and HEF improvements are compared, and the effectiveness of HEF as a SIL verification for subsea BOP is assessed.

  • This paper proposes a study on the configuration of balancing of plant(BOP) and implementation of battery management system(BMS) functions for vanadium redox flow battery(VRFB) and propose a method consists of sensor and required design specifications BOP system configuration. And it proposes an method of the functions implementation and control algorithm of the BMS for flow battery. Functions of BMS include temperature control, the charge and discharge control, flow control, level control, state of charge(SOC) estimation and a battery protection through the sensor signal of BOP. Functions of BMS is implemented by the sensor signal, so it is recognized as a very important factor measurement accuracy of the data. Therefore, measuring a mechanical signal(flow rate, temperature, level) through the BOP test model, and the measuring an electrical signal(cell voltage, stack voltage and stack current) through the VRFB charge-discharge system and analyzes the precision of data in this paper. Also it shows a good charge-discharge test results by the SOC estimation algorithm of VRFB. Proposed BOP configuration and BMS functions implementation can be used as a reference indicator for VRFB system design.

  • Due to corrosion defects on the surface of the oil pipe, the sealing performance of the annular blowout preventer (BOP) decreases, and the leakage of toxic and harmful gases such as H2S and SO2 will threaten the safety of operators on the well. Therefore, this paper establishes the FE model for evaluating the sealing performance of BOP-oil pipe corrosion defects, which is based on the rubber large deformation theory and rubber core sealing mechanism, and designs the experiment of BOP sealing performance to verify the accuracy of the FE model. The sealing performance of BOP sealing oil pipe with corrosion defects is studied. The research results show that the sealing performance of BOP is more sensitive to the axial size of corrosion defects. With the increase of oil pipe outer diameter, the critical size of defects increases continuously. The sensitivity of radial and depth dimensions is low, When for 88.9 mm outer diameter oil pipe, the axial critical size of corrosion defect is 20 mm, the radial critical size is 16 mm and the critical depth is 2 mm. Fit the formula between the outer diameter of oil pipe and the piston increment. According to the formula, the operator can calculate the piston stroke increment required by the BOP to complete the sealing when the oil pipe is corroded.
