  • The current study investigated whether Korean learners' English-learning environments, especially target English accent (General American English (GAE) vs. Southern British English (SBE)) and English-language experience affected their production of English vowels. Thirty six EFL learners, 27 ESL-US learners, and 33 ESL-UK learners produced 8 English vowels with a bVt frame (beat, bit, bet, bat, bought, bot, boat, boot). The learners' productions were acoustically analyzed in terms of F1 and F2 frequencies. The overall results revealed that the learners' target accent had an effect on their production of some English vowels. The EFL and ESL-US learners' (especially, female learners') production of bought, bot, boat, and boot, which show characteristic differences between the GAE and SBE accents, was closer to that of the native American English (AE) speakers than the native British English (BE) speakers. In contrast, the ESL-UK learners' production of bought and bot demonstrated the opposite pattern. Thus, the impact of target accent was not demonstrated across the board. The effect of the learners' different English-language experience was also rather limited. This was because the EFL learners' production was not much different from the ESL-US learners' production, in spite of the ESL-US learners' residence in the US for more than 9 years. Furthermore, the Korean learners, irrespective of their different English-language experience, tended to produce bit and bat with lower F1 than the native AE and BE speakers, thus resulting in bit and bat to be produced similarly to beat and bet, respectively. This demonstrates the learners' persistent L1 effects on their English vowel production despite the learners' residence in the English speaking countries or their high English proficiency.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the mediating effects of depression amid the influence of fear and social distancing arising from Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Korean women's suicidal ideation. Methods: A descriptive correlation study was conducted. Study participants, recruited by Hankook Research from March 2 to March 5, 2021, included 300 women aged 19 to 49 living in South Korea, and 100 people were randomly allocated and enlisted for each age group out of 700,000 Hankook Research Panels recruited in advance from 17 cities and provinces nationwide. Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire and analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and Hayes' Process Macro Model 4 with 95% bias-corrected bootstrap confidence interval via SPSS statistics 27.0. Results: Suicidal ideation was significantly correlated with fear of COVID-19 (r = .16, p = .006) and depression (r = .65, p < .001). The mediation effect of depression in the relationship between the fear of COVID-19 and suicidal ideation was found to be significant (B = 0.40, boot 95% CI: 0.21~0.61). However, social distancing did not significantly affect suicidal ideation via depression (B = - 0.79, boot 95% CI: - 1.94~0.26). Conclusion: It is necessary to develop and apply interventions to prevent depression and suicidal behaviors by continuously observing and reducing the negative psychological responses caused by COVID-19.

  • This research examines the power of bootstrap two-sample test, and compares it with the powers of two-sample t-test and Wilcoxon rank sum test, through simulation. For simulation work, a positively skewed and heavy tailed distribution was selected as a population distribution, the chi-square distributions with three degrees of freedom, χ23. For two independent samples, the fist sample was selected from χ23. The second sample was selected independently from the same χ23 as the first sample, and calculated d+ax for each sampled value x, a randomly selected value from χ23. The d in d+ax has from 0 to 5 by 0.5 interval, and the a has from 1.0 to 1.5 by 0.1 interval. The powers of three methods were evaluated for the sample sizes 10,20,30,40,50. The null hypothesis was the two population medians being equal for Bootstrap two-sample test and Wilcoxon rank sum test, and the two population means being equal for the two-sample t-test. The powers were obtained using r program language; wilcox.test() in r base package for Wilcoxon rank sum test, t.test() in r base package for the two-sample t-test, boot.two.bca() in r wBoot pacakge for the bootstrap two-sample test. Simulation results show that the power of Wilcoxon rank sum test is the best for all 330 (n,a,d) combinations and the power of two-sample t-test comes next, and the power of bootstrap two-sample comes last. As the results, it can be recommended to use the classic inference methods if there are widely accepted and used methods, in terms of time, costs, sometimes power.

  • The reactive web service provides a related word recommendation system using the TextRank algorithm and a word-based idea generation service selected by the user. In the related word recommendation system, the method of weighting each word using the TextRank algorithm and the probability output method using SoftMax are discussed. The idea generation service discusses the idea generation method and the artificial intelligence reinforce-learning method using mini-GPT. The reactive web discusses the linkage process between React, Spring Boot, and Flask, and describes the overall operation method. When the user enters the desired topic, it provides the associated word. The user constructs a mind map by selecting a related word or adding a desired word. When a user selects a word to combine from a constructed mind-map, it provides newly generated ideas and related patents. This web service can share generated ideas with other users, and improves artificial intelligence by receiving user feedback as a horoscope.

  • Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the domestic disinfection and quarantine market has grown, and the demand for disinfection operators who want to recruit disinfectants and disinfectants who want to work has increased, but it is not easy to find jobs. In addition, there is a need for a system that can automate or efficiently manage work by hand-recording and writing a disinfection record for disinfection work. Therefore, in this paper, an O2O disinfection service system is designed using the MVC pattern and implemented through MySQL, Ejs/BootStrap view, and Node.js. Additionally, it connects with AWS cloud services so users can use the system anytime, anywhere. Through the proposed O2O disinfection service system, we hope to solve the difficulties of recruiting personnel in the domestic disinfection station market and improve the existing inefficient disinfection work process.
