The Anaerbic Anoxic/oxic process is one of the biological treatment methods to remove nitrogen and phosphorus effectively which are nutritional elements for eutrophication. Supernatant of primary sediment of Anaerobic digester is used as a carbon source instead of methanol methanol supply in usual A$_{2}$/O process. The efficiency of the following treatment processes are as follow : 1) Changing recycle ratio in the usual A$_{2}$/O process without the stage of Anaerobic digester. 2) Changing recycle ratio in the usual A$_{2}$/O process with the supernatant supply of the Anaerobic digester. In the result of comparison, changing recycle ratio is almost no effect in the removal of phosphorus, however the effect of removal in nitrogenous substance are remarkable, and the effect of Anaerobic digester is not as effective as expected because the BOD removed in the digester partly, the rate of phosphorus to the BOD exceed pertinent range.
This study was carried out to obtain the operating characteristics of SMMIAR process for biological nitrogenㆍphosphorus removal. SMMIAR was operated at HLR(Hydraulic loading rate) of 39.6, 52.8, 63.4 and 79.2 $\ell$/$m^2$/d respectively and the operating parameters such as intermittent aeration time ratio of aerobic/anoxic, DO and microorganism concentration were changed to confirm the optimum operating condition. The concentrations of the wastewater BOD, TN(Total nitrogen) and TP(Total phosphorus) were 150, 30 and 7.5mg/$\ell$ respectively. Achieving better removal efficiencies of BOD, TN and TP up to 90, 85.4 and 95.4% respectively, we must keep in operation condition of SMMIAR by 0.75 of time ratio of aerobic/anoxic and by minimum 45 minutes of oxic period simultaneously.
In this study, novel nano silver sand filtration method was compared with UV treatment and normal sand filtration method through filtering treated water from sewage treatment plant. As a result, $BOD_5$ removal rate of nano silver sand filtration showed higher approximately 31% and 23%, comparing with UV treatment and sand filtration. Moreover, $KMnO_4$ removal rate of nano silver sand was about 6.6 and 2.8 times higher than other two methods. In addition, it showed better for removing SS and total coliform, comparing with others. Also, there is no bacteria on nano silver sand after experiments. Therefore, nano silver sand filtration will be effective for advanced water treatment.

Feasibility of floating aquatic plants (Eichhornia crassipes and Water dropwort) was investigated in order to control of sewage depending on various initial loading in a lab scale test. In addition, field test was conducted to assess the uptake rate of nutrient by E. crassipes. Lab-scale test applying primary domestic effluent operated at 4 day HRT shows that the highest uptake rates were 1.06 g N/$m^2{\cdot}day$ and 0.39 g P/$m^2{\cdot}day$ in the E. crassipes reactor. BOD removal efficiency in E. crassipes reactor was as high as 80% when the loading value was lower than 185 kg BOD/$ha{\cdot}day$. While 70 ~ 80% removal efficiency of BOD was achieved when the loading value was lower 80 kg BOD/$ha{\cdot}day$ at the W. Dropwort reactor. Experiment results show that E.crassipes has a higher nutrients removal efficiency than W. dropwort under high pollutant loading. Input loadings of TN and TP should not exceed to 10 kg TN/$ha{\cdot}day$ and 2.0 kg TP/$ha{\cdot}day$ respectively to provide a 50% TN and 80% TP removal efficiencies using E. crassipes. The field test demonstrated that an annual yield of E. crassipes mass was estimated as a fresh weight of 30.9 $m^3/ha{\cdot}yr$. E. crassipes grown in field pads absorbed 76.7 kg N/$ha{\cdot}yr$ and 13.4 kg P/$ha{\cdot}yr$ as a dry weight.
The co-culture system of microalgae and bacteria enables simultaneous removal of BOD and nutrients in a single reactor if the pair of microorganisms is symbiotic. In this case, nutrients are converted to biomass constituents of microalgae. This review highlights the importance and recent researches using symbiotic co-culture system of microalgae and bacteria in wastewater treatment, focusing on the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus. During wastewater treatment, the microalgae produces molecular oxygen through photosynthesis, which can be used as an electron acceptor by aerobic bacteria to degrade organic pollutants. The released $CO_2$ during the bacterial mineralization can then be consumed by microalgae as a carbon source in photosynthesis. Microalgae and bacteria in the co-culture system could cooperate or compete each other for resources. In the context of wastewater treatment, positive relationships are prerequisite to accomplish the sustainable removal of nutrients. Therefore, the selection of compatible species is very important if the co-culture has to be utilized in wastewater treatment.

In view of previous investigations that the outermost zone of porous media displays the most vigorous removal of organic contaminant, a novel filtration apparatus of cylinder-shaped porous material (polyester fiber) was applied to the Samcheonji reservoir in Gyeongsan to assess its ability to remove contaminants from reservoir water. The apparent mechanism of purification is that organic pollutant dispersed in the water is collected by the matrix to be degraded by microbes in due course. Data obtained from the experiment appear promising; 19$\sim$27% decrease in COD$_{Cr}$, 37$\sim$43% reduction in COD$_{Mn}$, BOD$_5$ diminution between 67$\sim$81%, 93% decrease in turbidity, and 99% removal of Suspended Solids. The results suggest that this device may be a valuable supplementary means to ameliorate the quality of reservoir water.

This study was carried out to develop INSUB(Indirected Aerated Submerged Biofilter) which can remove organics, nitrogen and phosphorus with an advanced treatment system. The results were as followed in laboratory model experiment. As for treatment of sewage, when economical efficiency was considered in practice, the highest removal efficiency was at 18hr of HRT, 1.017m/hr of superficial velocity and 40% of media packing ratio. Each removal efficiency for $COD_{cr}$, $COD_{Mn}$, $BOD_5$, T-N, and T-P was 90.6, 85.3, 95.0, 52.3 and 56.8%. To remove the nitrogen and phosphorus With high efficiency, first of all, denitrification have to be completed, then uptake of phosphorus have to completed. Therefor, mixture of anoxic and aerobic reactor was necessary for the high removal efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus in INSUB.
Annually, the scale of agricultural areas in Korea were being reduced as the lands were converted to other land uses. While the rate of productivity were either being maintained or increased, the pollution load from these areas were still greater in magnitude. Although the levels of pollutant concentration released in the agricultural watersheds were minimal, the combined quantities mostly from diffuse sources were high. As a consequence, the Ministry of Environment (MOE) in Korea adopted the use of free water surface (FWS) flow constructed wetlands to reduce the pollutant loadings emitted from agricultural watersheds for the improvement of water quality and protection of aquatic ecosystems. In this study, a constructed wetland treating stream water in an agricultural watershed was monitored since April 2009 subsequent to its completion in December 2008. Satisfactory performance was achieved for TSS, BOD and TP with 26%, 28% and 39% pollutant removal rates, respectively. In addition, the effluent water quality was improved and achieved compliance the national water quality criteria. Results of this study can be useful to establish design parameters and employ proper removal techniques of similar natural treatment systems for future implementation in the country.
Effluent from farm trefish contained high concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus, such kinds of nutrients were released to the environment without proper treatment and thses increased the pollution of the environment. We evaluated the conventional treatment system with cost effective ecotechnologies for the removal of nutrients. Water lettuce chambers were investigated under the various experimental conditions to improve the efficiency of N&P removal and the treatment of from aquaculture effluent. In this research, six water lettuce chambers (80 liter each) received combination of aquaculture wastewater effluent at hydraulic retention times (HRTs) of 1, 2, 4 and 8days. The water lettuce chambers operated at a 8 day HRT investigated for aquaculture effluent (1'st) showed average removal efficiency, BOD, T-N, T-P of 92.8, 79.0 and 93.6% on average respectively.
