Batteries are being used in ESS, electric vehicles and uninterruptible power backup systems. Lead-acid batteries are the most used batteries for high capacity power back up equipment due to their high reliability and low price advantages. It is very important to estimate the chargeable capacity(SoH), and many algorithms were proposed to estimate the internal resistance of the battery. In this paper, the Battery Monitoring System(BMS) for high capacity uninterruptible power supply for IDC is proposed. A simple algorithm for estimating internal resistance was proposed. An computational block diagram of the proposed signal processing algorithm and BMS system configuration of CPU and analog circuit were shown. The proposed method was proved useful by presenting data examples of application to actual IDC sites.
The effects of battery aging limit the rechargeable capacity, State of Health(SoH). It is very important to estimate the SoH in the battery monitoring system(BMS) and many algorithms of measuring the internal resistance of the battery were proposed. A method is used by applying a current source of a specific frequency to the battery and measuring the voltage response. When charging harmonic noise is generated in the voltage response, it results in poor resistance measurement accuracy. In this paper, a robust battery internal resistance measurement algorithm is proposed to eliminate the effect of charging noise by integrating the current source and voltage response signals for a certain period. It showed excellent accuracy and stable measurement results. Applying to the BMS for uninterruptible power supply, the usefulness of the proposed method is verified.

With the development of drone and ICT convergence technology, the use of underwater drones such as leisure underwater drones such as underwater exploration for fishing and industrial drones such as bridge piers is increasing. Existing motor controllers are suitable for aerial drones and these can increase the completeness of underwater drones and their reliability in motor control by developing BLDC motor controllers dedicated to underwater drones. By developing a battery management system (BMS) exclusively for underwater drones, battery stability was ensured by checking the state of charge, checking the state of discharge, adjusting cell balancing, and implementing high/voltage protection functions.
EV(Electric Vehicle) 차량에서 BMS(Battery Management System) 은 모터에 공급되는 고전압 배터리의 충전상태를 감지하여 VCU(Vehicle Control Unit)에 전송하게 된다.

In the Electric Vehicle(EV) driving system, the Battery Management System(BMS) is very important and an essential equipment. Particularly, BMS monitors the State of Charge(SOC), voltage, current, and temperature of the battery modules when Electric Vehicle is in the state of motoring or charging. Major roles of BMS are like these the first, estimation of State of Charge(SOC), the second, detection of the unbalance of the voltage between battery modules, the third, control of the available limit of the voltage and temperature of batteries by monitoring the batteries status during motoring or charging. In this research, We have focused on estimating SOC of battery according to the status of Electric Vehicle and the BMS operation algorithm. The result for algorithm of SOC estimation is presented. It have been modified, compensated, and verified by means of the experiment.

On this paper, we proposed a design rule of charger monitoring system which allow us to watch the charging status and verify it for building the electric chargers infrastructure by spread of electric vehicle. Gathering the charging status of battery by proposed system makes us to enhance the charging algorithm, to interface with BMS(Battery Management System) of electric vehicle, to control the charging process with users. Because the technology of rapid charging is dependant upon various factors such as a performance and stability of battery. We proposed the monitoring system of rapid charger based on CAN protocol that can watch a working status of rapid charger including the charging status of battery with real time and can reduce the charging time of battery with optimized status. We also implement it and evaluate its performance.

Although secondary batteries, called rechargeable batteries, are very important energy elements in modern society, their application is hindered by the typical nonlinear and irreversible characteristics. Precise monitoring of the state of health(SOH) for each battery cell on line is crucial for stable operation and proper management of them. This paper proposes diagnostic method of the SOH for a battery cell on line without interruption on its operation nor bad effect on its life. This paper practically diagnoses on 120 industrial batteries and provides some guide lines to decide whether to exchange or not.
Electric vehicle performance is very dependent on traction batteries. For developing the electric vehicles with high performance and good reliability, the traction batteries have to be managed to get maximum performance under various operating conditions. The enhancement of the battery performance can be accomplished by implementing battery management system (BMS) that plays important roles of optimizing the control mechanism of charge and discharge of the batteries as well as monitoring battery status. In this study the battery management system has been developed for maximizing the use of Ni/MH batteries in electric vehicle. This system provides several tasks: the control of charging and discharging, overcharge and over-discharge protection, the calculation and display of state of charge, safety and thermal management. The BMS was installed in and tested using the DEV5-5 electric vehicle developed by Daewoo Motor Co. and Institute for Advanced Engineering in Korea. The 18 modules of Panasonic Ni/MH battery, 12 V-95 Ah, were used in the DEV5-5. The high accuracy within the range of $3\%$ and the good reliability were shown in the test results. The BMS can also improve the performance and cycle life of Ni/MH battery pack as well as the reliability and safety of the electric vehicles (EV).

In this paper, a design and an implementation of an Analog to Digital (A/D) converter are introduced for the conversion of monitored battery cell voltage in the cell voltage monitoring(CVM) system in battery management system(BMS), which is one of the key devices of ECO hybrid cars. The A/D converter in CVM system required a middle conversion speed and a high resolution, therefore, a successive approximate register(SAR) typed A/D converter with 10 bits resolution has been designed and implemented using Magna 0.6um 40V process. The measurement result which kept ${\pm}1$ LSB accuracy in the full scale range(FSR) of 5V, showed the usefulness of the SAR typed A/D converter in realizing a CVM system.
