In this paper, we propose a subject-independent regression model to estimate systolic blood pressures (SBP) conveniently and continuously. There have been several researches on estimating SBP with pulse transit time (PTT) and they showed promising results. However, previous studies used only PTT as the estimation parameter, and their models were generated with just one person's PTT data which is not applicable to estimating other person's SBP. Therefore, we collected several additional biometric parameters with 202 healthy subjects. After statistical analysis of measured biometric parameters with SBP, we chose final estimating parameters including PTT to generate a multiple linear regression model for estimating SBP. Comparing the results of our study with approvable standards of automated sphygmomanometers developed by Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation and approved by American National Standards Institute (ANSI/AAMI) indicates that our proposed method for continuously blood pressures monitoring gives an acceptable error.
Objectives: Bee venom (BV) therapy is performed by a bee sting or subcutaneous injection of BV. However, there is not much information on the effect of BV on blood parameters after entering the body. This project aimed to assess the side effects of subcutaneous BV injections in healthy rats by measuring the hematological and biochemical parameters. Methods: Various amounts of BV, including 100, 200, and 500 (㎍/day), were subcutaneously injected into rats for 30 days. The results showed that BV affected the metabolism of the liver, kidney, and glands. Results: An increase in blood sugar and a decrease in other biochemical parameters, including cholesterol, triglyceride, urea, creatinine AST, ALT, ALP, and phosphorous, were observed. Results also showed increased counts of white blood cells, neutrophils (%), and platelets and decreased levels of red cells, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that BV therapy in medical clinics requires routine care and testing to prevent eventual metabolic and anemia side effects.

The desirable method to diagnose abnormal blood pressure is to measure and manage blood pressure continuously and regularly. However, the sphygmomanometers that are based on a cuff have faults in that they can not measure the blood pressure continuously and they cause an unpleasant feeling. Therefore, it is essential to develop a new measuring method that causes no pain and that can obtain blood pressure continuously without any unpleasant feeling. Thus, we propose here a regression method to estimate the systolic blood pressure by using the PTTL(pulse transit time on leg) with some body parameters which are chosen from the relational analysis with systolic blood pressure. The data we use to make the regression model were obtained in triplicate from each of 50 males who were from 18 to 35 years. And we made estimation experiments of blood pressure on 10 males who did not take part in the making the regression model. According to the results, the proposed method showed a mean error of 4.00 mmHg and the standard variance was 2.45 mmHg. When we comparing the results of the proposed method with the rule of American National Standards Institute of the Association of the Advancement of Medical Instruments(ANSI/AAMI), the results satisfied the rule of a mean error less than 5 mmHg and a standard variance less than 8 mmHg. Therefore we were able to validate the usefulness of the proposed method.
Invasive blood pressure (IBP) is measured for the patient's real time arterial pressure (ABP) to monitor the critical abrupt disorders of the cardiovascular system. It can be used for the estimation of cardiac output and the opening and closing time detection of the aortic valve. Although the unexplained inflections on ABP make it difficult to find the mathematical relations with other cardiovascular parameters, the estimations based on ABP for other data have been accepted as useful methods as they had been verified with the statistical results among vast patient data. Previous windkessel models were composed with systemic resistance and vascular compliance and they were successful at explaining the average systolic and diastolic values of ABP simply. Although it is well-known that the blood pressure reflection from peripheral arteries causes complex inflection on ABP, previous models do not contain any elements of the reflections because of the complexity of peripheral arteries' shapes. In this study, to simulate a reflection wave of blood pressure, a new mathematical model was designed with four elements that were the impedance of aorta, the compliance of aortic arch, the peripheral resistance, and the compliance of peripheral arteries. The parameters of the new model were adjusted to have three types of arterial blood pressure waveform that were measured from a patient. It was used to find the relations between the inflections and other cardiovascular parameters such as the opening-closing time of aortic valve and the cardiac output. It showed that the blood pressure reflection can bring wide range errors to the closing time of aortic valve and cardiac output with the conventional estimation based on ABP and that the changes of one-stroke volumes can be easily detected with previous estimation while the changes of heart rate can bring some error caused by unexpected reflections.
Dietary nitrate supplementation from green leafy vegetables and beetroot is involved in the 'nitrate-nitrite-nitric oxide (NO) pathway' and is reported to have important vascular impacts. This study evaluated the blood parameters and blood flow change subsequent to a raw juice diet program. The 28 subjects who voluntarily participated in the raw juice diet program at Sahmyook University were instructed to drink the juice composed of fruits and vegetables instead of partaking the usual meal, at a scheduled time daily. The study was approved by the research ethics council of the Sahmyook University (SYUIRB 2014-043). Evaluation of the participants after the required duration revealed decreased levels of soft lean mass (P<0.05), skeletal muscle mass (P<0.001), body fat mass (P<0.001), body mass index (P<0.001) and circulating levels of total cholesterol (P<0.001), triglycerides (P<0.05), HDL-cholesterol (P<0.01), LDL-cholesterol (P<0.01), and blood urea nitrogen (P<0.001). Conversely, circulating levels of creatinine (P<0.001), hemoglobin (P<0.001), and hematocrit (P<0.01) were increased after the intervention. The blood flow levels were also increased after the program (P<0.001). Our results indicate that a short-term raw juice diet contributes to the improvement of vascular blood flow and blood lipid parameters, and decreases the lean muscle mass related to dehydration.

This study investigated changes in certain blood parameters in calves and pigs after foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccination. In this study, five calves and five pigs were selected from groups of 10 calves and pigs, respectively, and were vaccinated with an FMD vaccine. The remaining animals formed two non-treatment control groups. Blood samples were collected from all animals on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th days post-vaccination. In the FMD-vaccinated calves and pigs on day 7 post-vaccination, white blood cell counts, blood urea nitrogen levels, and alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase activities were higher than those in the respective controls. The present data suggested that the certain hemato-biochemical parameters on cattle and pigs were meaningfully changed between before and after FMD vaccination.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of obesity, serum antioxidant mineral concentrations and blood lipid parameters in middle school students. Subjects were assigned to two groups, obese (BMI$\geq$25, 32 boys, 24 girls) and normal group (18.5
This experiment was carried out to determine the effects of supplementation of L-carnitine and humic substances alone or in combination in laying hen diets on performance, egg traits and blood parameters. A total of 180 IGH type brown laying hens aged 22 weeks were employed in a completely randomized block design with one control group and three treatment groups. Each group was divided into five replicates as subgroups, each comprising 9 hens. The diets of the first, second and third treatment groups were supplemented with 0.1 g/kg L-carnitine, 1.5 g/kg humic substances (Farmagulator$^{(R)}$ Dry Plus) and 0.1 g/kg L-carnitine+1.5 g/kg humic substances, respectively. The experimental period lasted 18 weeks. Feeding supplemental carnitine, humic substances or carnitine+humic substances resulted in increases in body weight gain (p<0.05). Dietary treatments did not significantly affect daily feed intake, daily metabolizable energy intake, egg production, egg weight, feed efficiency, mortality, egg shape index, egg breaking strength, egg shell thickness, egg albumen index, egg yolk index, egg Haugh unit and the percentages of egg shell, albumen and yolk. Supplementation of humic substances reduced egg yolk cholesterol as mg per g yolk and mg per yolk (p<0.05). Blood serum parameters were not affected by the supplementation of carnitine, humic substances or carnitine+humic substances. The results in this study demonstrated that humic substances supplementation reduced egg cholesterol without adverse effects on performance, egg traits and blood parameters of laying hens. It was concluded that the usage of L-carnitine alone or in combination with humic substances in diets had no beneficial effects in laying hens.
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of form and particle size of feed supplemented with L-threonine on growth performance, carcass characteristic and blood biochemical parameters of broiler chickens. The experimental design was a $2{\times}2{\times}2$ factorial arrangement of treatments evaluating two feed forms (pellet or mash), two feed particle sizes (fine or course), and two inclusion rates of dietary L-threonine (with or without) which adopted from 7 to 42 days of age. In this experiment, 360 a day old chicks in two sexes were assigned in each treatment and each experimental unit was included 15 chicks. Feed consumption and weight gain were measured weekly. At 35 days of age, blood samples were taken to analysis blood biochemical parameters. At the end of the experimental period, two birds were slaughtered in each treatment and carcass analysis was carried out. The results showed that the effect of feed form on body weight gain and feed intake in whole of experimental period was significant (P < 0.05). Broilers fed pelleted diets had more weight gain than the mash group. Growth performance parameters were not affected by feed particle size and dietary L-threonine supplementation in whole of experimental period (P > 0.05). The results of carcass analysis showed that liver and gizzard relative weights were influenced by feed form (P < 0.05). However, pancreas and liver relative weights were affected by feed particle size and dietary L-threonine supplementation, respectively (P < 0.05). Triglyceride and VLDL levels were affected by feed form and dietary L-threonine supplementation (P < 0.05). The effect of feed particle size on blood biochemical parameters was not significant (P > 0.05). In conclusion, the experimental results indicated that feed form increased feed consumption and weight gain in whole of experimental period (1 to 42 days of age) while feed particle size and dietary L-threonine had no effect on broiler performance.
The effect of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on cerebral physiology during heart surgery remains incompletely understood. This study was carried out to investigate changes of cerebral metabolism and the association between the changes and clinical factors during heart surgery. Seventy adult patients (n=70) scheduled for elective cardiac surgery were participated in the present study. Middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity (V$_{MCA}$), cerebral arteriovenous oxygen content difference (C(a-v)O$_2$), cerebral oxygen extraction (COE), and modified cerebral metabolic rate for oxygen (MCMRO$_2$) were measured during six phases of the operation; Pre-CPB, CPB-10 min, Rewarm-1 (nasopharyngeal temperature 34$^{\circ}C$), Rewarm-2 (nasopharyngeal temperature 37$^{\circ}C$), CPB-off, and Post-OP (at skin closure after CPB-off). Each relationship of age, arterial blood gas parameters, or other variables to V$_{MCA}2$, C(a-v)O$_2$, COE, or MCMRO$_2$ was evaluated. V$_{MCA}$ increased (P<0.0001) whereas C(a-v)O$_2$ decreased (P<0.01) throughout the five phases of the operation compared to Pre-CPB value (control). COE diminished at CPB-10, Rewarm-1, and CPB-off (P<0.05) while MCMRO$_2$ reduced at CPB-10 and Rewarm-1 (P<0.05) compared to Pre-CPB value. Positive correlation was found between age and cerebral metabolic parameters (V$_{MCA}$, C(a-v)O$_2$, COE, or MCMRO$_2$) during CPB (range r=0.24 to 0.38, p<0.05). Four cerebral metabolic parameters had partially negative or positive correlation with arterial blood gas parameters and other variables (arterial blood pH, $O_2$ tension, $O_2$ content, $CO_2$ tension, blood pressure, blood flow, temperature, or hematocrit) during the operation. In conclusion, CPB led to marked alterations of cerebral metabolism and age, pH, and $CO_2$ tension profoundly influenced the changes during cardiac surgery.
