The 3-dimensional flow field has been investigated by numerical analysis in a 2.5MW wind turbine blade. Complicated and separated flaw phenomena in the wind turbine blade were captured by the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) steady flaw simulation using general-purpose code, CFX and the mechanism of vortex structure behavior is elucidated. The vortical flow field in a wind turbine rotor is dominated by the tip vortex and hub separation vortex. The tip vortex starts to be formed near the blade tip leading edge. As the tip vortex develops in the tangential direction, interacting with boundary layer from the blade tip trailing edge. The hub separation vortex is generated near the blade hub leading edge and develops nearly in the span-wise direction. Furthermore, 3-dimensional blade tip shape has been designed for increasing shrift power and reducing thrust force on the wind turbine blade. It is expected that the behavior of the tip vortex and hub separation vortex plays a major role in aerodynamic and aeroacoustic characteristics.
In this study, the break of the rotary blade which is occured from a stress concentration of the inside of blade by the outside impulsive load, is analyzed to 3-dimension used by the Freezing Photoelastic Method. These results are as follows. 1. The bending and compression stress are the greatest at the location of blade case. 2. The section area of 3cm-location from the blade case is the smallest, therefore, there are breaked 58% of all at this location and are proofed to the most danger section 3. The section area which by stress concentration of 3cm-location from blade case is caused by the production of blade, and it was higher danger of break than another location's. 4. In the location of 6cm and 9cm from the blade case, the bending stress has received a little and the section area has larger than another's, so it is not almost possible that the break at that location 5. In order to prevent of break, the external part which has contacted soil have to made tender for receiving a little stress and the internal part which received a large stress have to strengthen.

This paper presents design optimization of a new Active Twist Rotor (ATR) blade and conducts its aeroelastic analysis in forward flight condition. In order to improve a twist actuation performance, the present ATR blade utilizes a single crystal piezoelectric fiber composite actuator and the blade cross-sectional layout is designed through an optimization procedure. The single crystal piezoelectric fiber composite actuator has excellent piezoelectric strain performance when compared with the previous piezoelectric fiber composites such as Active Fiber Composites (AFC) and Macro Fiber Composites (MFC). Further design optimization gives a cross-sectional layout that maximizes the static twist actuation while satisfying various blade design requirements. After the design optimization is completed successfully, an aeroelastic analysis of the present ATR blade in forward flight is conducted to confirm the efficiency in reducing the vibratory loads at both fixed- and rotating-systems. Numerical simulation shows that the present ATR blade utilizing single crystal piezoelectric fiber composites may reduce the vibratory loads significantly even with much lower input-voltage when compared with that used in the previous ATR blade. However, for an application of the present single crystal piezoelectric actuator to a full scaled rotor blade, several issues exist. Difficulty of manufacturing in a large size and severe brittleness in its material characteristics will need to be examined.

This paper presents numerical study on the performance improvement of the sirocco fan in a range hood. The performance of sirocco fan means a higher flowrate, a higher static pressure and a lower required motor power in a fixed geometry constraint. Various impeller geometric parameters, such as blade profile, blade diameter, blade thickness profile and blade exit angle, were investigated by numerically and the results were compared with each other to know the effects on the performance. In this approach, the volute geometry were fixed with the original shape. The numerical results show that the blade profile with airfoil shape and small exit blade thickness increases the performance. The blade exit angle shows optimum angle within a varied range. The efficiency of the optimized exit angle was about $10\%$ higher than the base blade exit angle and the static pressure was about $28\%$ higher at the flow coefficient 0.22.
An effective method to calculate aerodynamic loads and aeroelastic responses of large wind turbine tower-blade coupled structures in yaw condition is proposed. By a case study on a 5 MW large wind turbine, the finite element model of the wind turbine tower-blade coupled structure is established to obtain the modal information. The harmonic superposition method and modified blade-element momentum theory are used to calculate aerodynamic loads in yaw condition, in which the wind shear, tower shadow, tower-blade modal and aerodynamic interactions, and rotational effects are fully taken into account. The mode superposition method is used to calculate kinetic equation of wind turbine tower-blade coupled structure in time domain. The induced velocity and dynamic loads are updated through iterative loop, and the aeroelastic responses of large wind turbine tower-blade coupled system are then obtained. For completeness, the yaw effect and aeroelastic effect on aerodynamic loads and wind-induced responses are discussed in detail based on the calculating results.

Deviation angles are predicted by numerical calculation of three-dimensional compressible flow through the rotating blade row in axial flow compressor. Three-dimensional flow fields are analyzed by the quasi three-dimensional combination of blade-to blade surfaces and hub-to shroud stream surfaces and calculated by the finite element method in the cyclic calculation of both stream surfaces. In the blade-to blade calculations the method of boundary stream line correction is used and in the hub-to shroud calculations the loss effects due to viscous flow are included. The computational results are compared with the available experimental one. It is shown that the computational results from blade-to-blade flow calculation are correct for incompressible, compressible low subsonic and high subsonic flow at the inlet, and the loss effects on the deviation angle can be neglected in the range of the subsonic flow less than the critical Mach number for the axisymmetric flow and even for 3-D non-axisymmetric flow with loss. And it is found that the present results are better agreed with the experimental data than Lieblein's one.

The purpose of this study is to suggest a method for the efficient preventive maintenance of aircraft gas turbine engine turbine blades. For this study, the types and characteristics of gas turbine engines and its turbine blades were studied, the turbine blade defect types that caused an In-Flight Shut Down(IFSD) were analyzed, the blade failure rate according to the blade life cycle was analyzed through the Weibull distribution, one of the statistical techniques. Through these research results, it is possible to supplement the problems of the life cycle management and maintenance method of the turbine blade, and to suggest the measures to strengthen the preventive maintenance of the turbine blade. In this analysis, when total cycle of turbine blade exceeds 18,000 cycles, the failure rate is over 98%, and then the special management measures are required.

The purpose of this study is to examine and propose a high quality blade manufacturing method by applying ELID grinding technology to machining the tungsten carbide blade edge for MLCC sheet cutting. In this study, experiments are performed according to the abrasive type of grinding wheel, grinding method and grinding direction using the non-stop continuous dressing ELID grinding technology. By comparing and analyzing the chipping phenomena and surface roughness of both the blade grinding surface and the processed surface, a method for machining the tungsten carbide blade for cutting MLCC sheet is proposed. From the analysis of the surface roughness and chipping phenomena, it is confirmed that the use of diamond abrasive is advantageous for the blade machining. In addition, it succeeds in the machining of $6{\mu}m$ fine blade without any chipping, by using the grinding wheel #4000 with the diamond abrasive.
Bending-twisting coupling induced in big composite wind turbine blades is one of the passive control mechanisms which is exploited to mitigate loads incurred due to deformation of the blades. In the present study, flutter characteristics of bend-twist coupled blades, designed for load alleviation in wind turbine systems, are investigated by time-domain analysis. For this purpose, a baseline full GFRP blade, a bend-twist coupled full GFRP blade, and a hybrid GFRP and CFRP bend-twist coupled blade is designed for load reduction purpose for a 5 MW wind turbine model that is set up in the wind turbine multi-body dynamic code PHATAS. For the study of flutter characteristics of the blades, an over-speed analysis of the wind turbine system is performed without using any blade control and applying slowly increasing wind velocity. A detailed procedure of obtaining the flutter wind and rotational speeds from the time responses of the rotational speed of the rotor, flapwise and torsional deformation of the blade tip, and angle of attack and lift coefficient of the tip section of the blade is explained. Results show that flutter wind and rotational speeds of bend-twist coupled blades are lower than the flutter wind and rotational speeds of the baseline blade mainly due to the kinematic coupling between the bending and torsional deformation in bend-twist coupled blades.

LES(Large Eddy Simulation) with a cavitation model was performed to calculate an unsteady flow for a mixed flow pump with a closed type impeller. First, the comparison between the numerical and experimental results was done to evaluate a computational accuracy. Second, the torque acting on the blade was calculated by simulation to investigate how the cavitation caused the fluctuation of torque. The absolute pressure around the leading edge on the suction side of blade surface had positive impulsive peaks in both the numerical and experimental results. The simulation showed that those peaks were caused by the cavitaion which contracted and vanished around the leading edge. The absolute pressure was predicted by simulation with -10% error. The absolute pressure around the trailing edge on the suction side of blade surface had no impulsive peaks in both the numerical and experimental results, because the absolute pressure was 100 times higher than the saturated vapor pressure. The simulation results showed that the cavitation was generated around the throat, then contracted and finally vanished. The simulated pump had five throats and cavitation behaviors such as contraction and vanishing around five throats were different from each other. For instance, the cavitations around those five throats were not vanished at the same time. When the cavitation was contracted and finally vanished, the absolute pressure on the blade surface was increased. When the cavitation was contracted around the throat located on the pressure side of blade surface, the pressure became high on the pressure side of blade surface. It caused the 1.4 times higher impulsive peak in the torque than the averaged value. On the other hand, when the cavitation was contracted around the throat located on the suction side of blade surface, the pressure became high on the suction side of blade surface. It caused the 0.4 times lower impulsive peak in the torque than the averaged value. The cavitation around the throat caused the large fluctuation in torque acting on the blade.
