  • These days, architectural projects are becoming larger and more complex. And lots of information occurs through each phases and areas. For these reason, it is emphasized that collaboration with other parts. Therefore we need more effective architectural design process. However, it is difficult to collaborate in early stage with existing design process and it causes unnecessary spending of time and cost because of 2D-based working system. For solving these problem, we should introduce BIM-based Integrated Design Process which makes it possible to collaborate with other parts from early stage. Now the AEC industry in Korea has been trying to introduce BIM, and promoting variety of related business. However, for actual application of this system, it is unfortunately necessary to change various system throughout the construction industry. And this will cause lots of effort and expense. It is essential that scientific analysis and evaluation of efficiency and validity about this investment, because estimation of the investment and accompanying effects will provide reasonable standard of judgment for investment decision. Thus, this research conducted Cost-Benefit Analysis about BIM-based Integrated Design Process compared to existing design process. It is expected that this paper can be used for preliminary data in the future BIM market.

  • A recent introduction of BIM has raised a necessity for BIM guidelines and guidelines following the decision about the BIM introduction are being present both home and abroad. This study hereby intended to develop BIM guidelines to the architectural field, for which the role and development directives of BIM guidelines were set up based on BIM concepts and examples of foreign guidelines. As a result, the role of guideline in (1)Activation of BIM (2)Support BIM process (3)Support and enhance collaboration (4)Standardized implementation of construction information (5)Technical support for BIM utilizing technology. It also classified the role of each guideline, standard and manual to establish detailed development directives. Besides, regarding the BIM process to clarify the goal to share among participants, information levels per stage and applicable scopes, for the sake of when to introduce BIM and how to use it properly, their contents were suggested in consideration of applicable BIM technologies based on business for each design stage at home.

  • Recently, the BIM paradigm in domestic and foreign countries has been recognized as a momentum that can enhance productivity, efficiency, and collaboration of work in the construction industry. In this aspect, some countries have driven the development of BIM guideline to introduce and apply the Open BIM which is IFC-based BIM. Whereas, introduction and application of the BIM in Korea has been tried partly by several government agencies, public companies, design and construction companies. To promote the proliferation in the BIM use, therefore, the guideline needs to be developed first of all than anything else. In this context, this study addresses the trends of the BIM guidelines of foreign countries and strategic directions necessary for developing the Open BIM guideline.

  • The usage of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in building projects has enabled improvement in project planning, implementation and collaboration process amongst various stakeholders within architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. However, variations exist in the current practices of BIM implementation and coordination process in the industry. These variations result in inconsistent degree of BIM use across the construction industry. This inconsistency gives rise to several managerial and technological challenges such as data interoperability issues and purposeful integration and exchange of information within the BIM components. In order to tackle the issue, it is essential to analyse the different BIM approaches employed by the industry practitioners. BIM guidelines serve as a critical link between the BIM model, and its subsequent execution. They therefore provide the best reflection of BIM application and processes. This research paper aims to address the variations existing in BIM practices across the construction industry. It includes an extensive study of 21 existing, publicly available BIM-based guidelines in order to establish an understanding of the present state of practice and deduce issues and concerns related to them. All guidelines analysed in this paper are first categorised based on authorship and the release date for efficient comparison. The points of similarity and difference between them are thereby realized and outlined. In addition, the transition of project implementation process from traditional methods to BIM technology is also explained. The existence of inconsistencies in the BIM guidelines reviewed in this paper reflects the need of a BIM 'Code Compliance Check'. The Code Compliance Check will serve as a regulatory project guideline that will further improve the potential of BIM by incorporating a consistent BIM modelling methodology for the entire construction industry.

  • 4D simulation integrates the 3 dimensional model of a building with the construction schedule, and it leads to the possibility of virtually checking the construction process and the building itself in advance. However, the existing problem of 4D simulation is the difference between the demands of architects, engineers, and construction site workers in 4D simulation. This study suggests the possible way to enhance the availability of 4D simulation, considering more the practical demands from the construction site. In order to conduct this study, we build a 3D BIM model of a business-residential complex and link the model with the pre-defined construction schedule in order to make a 4D simulation. This study concludes with the optimized 4D simulation methodology based on BIM model considering the demands in perspective of the construction site. It would contribute to the harmonic collaboration among architects, engineers, and labors in the construction site when using 4D simulation based on BIM model.

  • BIM is a collaborative. model-based way to work. Structural BIM is one of the key elements in the building process where the majority of structural information is created. Open BIM interfaces make it possible for all design information to be produced and managed within a single 3D product model. To make structural BIM a reality between owners, general contractors, architects and engineers. the software used need to be open in their communication. We used to Tekla Structures to provide an open environment through standard interfaces and Tekla Open API collaboration. We have developed MCP(machine cutting plan) and PIM(product information management)to provide cutting plan and drawing and manage to B.O.M, Materials, Production, Shipping and Project.

  • BIM technology, based on 3D model of civil engineering structures, creates and manages information of the structures throughout four stages: Planning, design, construction, and maintenance. BIM is now used around the globe for improvement of the construction productivity. However, in order to expect the efficient engineering work, collaboration system between participants in a construction project is necessary. Therefore, in this paper BIM based CPLM (Construction project lifecycle management) system was designed and developed by analyzing the requirements of participants of a construction project. CPLM system offers an environment which enables the sharing and management of information according to the each stage of construction. CPLM is expected to aid cooperative decision-making during the overall construction process through the process innovation and the efficient data management.

  • Revit program is one of the architectural design programs based on the BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology, which is attracting attention as a next-generation three-dimensional architectural design technique. Revit is a program that enhances the information input side and makes it easy to understand components by making it an object called an information family of components from the design stage, but there is no program that easily compares the drawing output files extracted from this program. It is difficult to analyze the changes to the same drawings modified at the time of collaboration and easily share the drawing information. In this paper, we propose and implement a version management system for the output files on the same drawing, so that the parallel collaboration work of output drawing files through Revit can be efficiently performed. We propose an improved KMP algorithm.
