  • In domestic construction industry, there is lack of the communication between planning, design, construction and maintenance. This problem makes the omission of information and the loss of cost. Therefore, the introduction of BIM can be a solution about that. BIM manages all information generated during all life-cycle of a structure and consequently maximizes the efficiency of utilizing information. This is done through 3D information model associated with a three-dimensional(3D) parametric CAD. This study proposes the design process of steel box bridge for structural design work of bridge construction project based on BIM. This process has 3D modeling progress done by using the information decided in design phase. When the subject for the proposed process is superstructure of steel box bridge in construction, the structural calculation sheet can be derived with the structural design process based on BIM.

  • The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport presented the "Construction Industry BIM Enforcement Guidelines Constructors Edition" to reflect the design BIM data in the construction stage. The enforcement guidelines were prepared with the aim of providing guidelines for detailed common implementation plans such as minimum BIM business methods and procedures necessary for ordering, designing, and construction stages for the full-scale BIM application in all fields of the construction industry. In this study, interference and design errors were examined based on the enforcement guidelines, and the application effects were grasped for various sites where equipment placement and operation plans were established. As a result, intuitive examination was possible by comparing the digital field 3D model and the planned model in one space, and the optimum equipment arrangement and operation plan were derived through simulation examination according to the execution stage.

  • Various studies are being actively conducted to show that the real-time visualization technology that combines BIM (Building Information Modeling) and AR (Augmented Reality) helps to increase construction management decision-making and processing efficiency. However, when large-capacity BIM data is projected into AR, there are various limitations such as data transmission and connection problems and the image cut-off issue. To improve the high efficiency of visualizing, a mesh optimization algorithm based on the k-nearest neighbors (KNN) classification framework to reconstruct BIM data is proposed in place of existing mesh optimization methods that are complicated and cannot adequately handle meshes with numerous boundaries of the 3D models. In the proposed algorithm, our target BIM model is optimized with the Unity C# code based on triangle centroid concepts and classified using the KNN. As a result, the algorithm can check the number of mesh vertices and triangles before and after optimization of the entire model and each structure. In addition, it is able to optimize the mesh vertices of the original model by approximately 56 % and the triangles by about 42 %. Moreover, compared to the original model, the optimized model shows no visual differences in the model elements and information, meaning that high-performance visualization can be expected when using AR devices.

  • Recently, Building Information Modeling(BIM) has become a hot topic in the construction industry such as quantity calculation, interference check, process management, and construction cost management. It is also trying to convert the existing 2D design to 3D design and introduce the BIM in various fields, thus, many new deliverable are being presented but there are many issues due to the lack of standard guides on the preparation and delivery criteria for such new deliverable and how to utilize performance data. Therefore, In order to develop the electronic delivery process, we analyzed the process related to the delivery of BIM digital models presented in domestic and international BIM guidelines and the delivery of products from the Korea National Railway. The analysis focused on the list of achievements, delivery process, quality review standards, and the utilization code system of the Korea National Railway through BIM guidelines and the National Railroad Service's business procedures. Based on these analysis results, it presents a plan to construct an functional module of electronic delivery.

  • For successful BIM settlement, it is a key technic for engineer to design structures in the 3-dimensional digital space and to work out related design documents directly. Lately many BIM tool has been released and each supports their 3-dimensional object libraries. But it is not easy to apply those libraries to design transportation infra structures that were placed along the route(3-dimensional line). Moreover, in case of design changes, it is so difficult to reflect those changes with the integrated model that was assembled by them. Because of they were developed without consideration for redundancy of parameters between objects that were placed nearby or were related each other. In this paper, a method to develop module for modeling and placing 3-dimensional object for transportation infra structures is presented. The modules are employed by a parametric method and can deal with design changes. Also, for a railroad bridge, through developing user interface of the integrated 3-dimensional model that was assembled by those modules the applicability of them was reviewed.

  • There are many participants in the construction industry compare to other industry, and its productivity is lower than other industry. Therefore this study has understood that BIM (Building Information Modeling) may contribute to the improvement in the productivity at construction sites, and I wish to suggest a BIM application process suitable for the construction industry, To achieve such goal, this study has examined the theory of BIM and has extracted the subjects to be improved through the analysis of the existing construction process, and has suggested the BIM application process to resolve issues of improvement. And to evaluate the application of the improved process, a case study was conducted with the application of commercialized BIM related software. The possibility of application of BIM model in the construction industry, and its influence and the subjects to be resolved, with the application of BIM in Korea, were able to be confirmed. I wish this study may contribute to the application of BIM in the Korean construction industry.

  • The market for compact houses is growing due to the demand for floor plans prioritizing user needs. However, clients often have difficulty communicating their spatial requirements to professionals including architects because they lack the means to provide evidence, such as spatial configurations or cost estimates. This research aims to create a framework that can translate sketched data-driven spatial requirements into 3D building components in BIM models to facilitate spatial understanding and provide building performance analysis to aid in budgeting in the early design phase. The research process includes developing a process model, implementing, and validating the framework. The process model describes the data flow within the framework and identifies the required functionality. Implementation involves creating systems and user interfaces to integrate various systems. The validation verifies that the framework can automatically convert sketched space requirements into walls, floors, and roofs in a BIM model. The framework can also automatically calculate material and energy costs based on the BIM model. The developed frame enables clients to efficiently create 3D building components based on the sketched data and facilitates users to understand the space and analyze the building performance through the created BIM models.

  • Recent advancements in Building Information Modeling(BIM) have significantly impacted the construction industry, driving competitiveness and innovation. However, rebar construction, a critical component influencing project quality and cost, has lagged behind in BIM adoption. Traditional methods relying heavily on 2D drawings for rebar detailing have hindered efficiency and introduced potential errors. This paper presents a novel system designed to automate the detailed modeling of rebar, thereby promoting BIM integration within rebar construction and optimizing construction management processes. The system leverages confirmed structural drawings from the post-structural design phase to automatically generate intricate rebar models for columns and beams. To ensure adherence to domestic structural design standards, the system is developed using C# programming language and the Revit API. By automating rebar modeling, this system aims to minimize human error, reduce labor-intensive tasks, and enhance overall rebar construction efficiency through the effective utilization of generated rebar model data.

  • For effective building maintenance, the collection and management of various maintenance date such as work history information and material information is required. Despite the introduction of information management technologies and systems to reduce the amount of maintenance work of buildings, which have become larger and more complex, the maintenance information is not being utilized properly. As an alternative, research on the introduction and utilization of BIM is being conducted continuously. However, the BIM models generated at the design phase are not utilized in practice due to a lack of architectural maintenance information. This study proposed a COBie document prototype to support BIM-based smart maintenance tasks performed by building managers. In order to formalize various types of maintenance work procedures, a BIM-based maintenance process model is presented in two categories: inspection and maintenance. Among the BIM attribute data of the BIM model generated at the design phase, the parameters corresponding to the maintenance necessary information for each basic process are derived. Based on this, we proposed a COBie document prototype consisting of seven spreadsheets. The results of a case study confirmed that the KBIMS library-based BIM model created at the design phase without the maintenance information can be used at the maintenance phase.
