  • The 2-dimensional unsteady flows on and around the cambered airfoils were computed by applying LES with the deductive dynamic SGS model. The unsteady flow field were used as inputs to compute the far-field sounds and directivity patterns from rotating blades by a hybrid approach that exploits Farassat's formula. The BEM (Boundary Element Method) was applied to predict the frequency characteristics from the rotating blades for the cases of even- and uneven-pitched fans. The BEM results suggested that the unevenly pitched fan have less pronounced discrete peaks at BEF frequencies, which was confirmed by the experiment.

  • This paper presents an explanatory study of combining the finite element and boundary element methods to achieve an efficient and accurate analysis of frame structure containing shear wall. This model analyzes the frame by finite element method and the shear wall by boundary element method. The purpose of this study is the specific case that boundary element is surrounded by finite element. If material properties of shear wall are relatively the very smaller than it of frame structure, the displacement shape of each node is calculated exactly. And if the solution of displacement is the larger, the displacement shape is approximated more accurately.

  • This paper presents a study of 2-dimensional(2-D) eddy current problem using boundary element method(BEM). When compared with finite element method(FEM), there are only a few unknown variables in BEM because it implements numerical analysis only for the surface or boundary of a model. As a result, a lot of computational memory and time can be saved. In order to analyze 2-D eddy current problem, potentials and its derivatives(flux) in a boundary are used as variables. The Mantel function of the second kind of the zero order is used here as a fundamental solution. In order to remove singularity and to solve the integral equations in a boundary, Subtracting Singularity Method and Gauss Quadrature Formula are adopted in this paper.

  • Most metal structures such as gas pipelines. oil pipelines, hot water pipelines and power cables etc. are buried in underground. Normally. metal structures corrode in underground by the electrochemical reaction. Then, metal structures need to be protected against corrosion. Cathodic protection is one of useful methods to protect metal structures against corrosion. In this paper we do the design of anode shape using Boundary Element Method. So we analysis the current density of anode surface and the potential distribution in the electrolyte. Therefore we seek to maximize the anode life and the safety of metal structures.

  • This paper proposes a helmet-type whole-head brain stimulator system considering a realistic head geometry. For more accurate design and computer simulations, a realistic volume conductor model was adopted and the current evoked on human cerebral cortex was analyzed using the boundary element method (BEM). To obtain a more focalized evoked current around the target points, various coil configurations were tested and an average targeting error of about 10 mm was obtained.

  • In this paper, an evaluation method of fracture toughness on interface cracks has been investigated under various mixed-mode conditions of the bonded scarf joints. Two types of the bonded scarf joints with an interface crack were prepared to analyze the stress intensity factors using boundary element method(BEM) and to perform the fracture toughness test. From the results of fracture toughness experiments and BEM analysis, an evaluation method of fracture toughness on interface cracks in the bonded dissimilar materials has been proposed and discussed.

  • An H-Plane waveguide component with arbitrary shape is analyzed using finite element technique(FEM) cooperated with boundary element method(BEM). For the application of BEM in the waveguide structure, a hybrid ray-mode representation of the waveguide Green's function is used. This technique is applied to the waveguide step load and the computed results are compared with the earlier theoretical results.

  • In this paper, The hybrid method in order to reduce the unknown varible for 3D eddy current calculation is proposed. we adopt the current vector potential(T) and the magnetic scalar potential($\Omega$) as field variable, and adopt image charge method for symetric boundary condition in BEM. We apply the hybrid method to electromagnet for levitation system and analyze the charateristics of eddy current airgap flux distribution, attractive and magnetic drag force according to velocity.

  • An object oriented programming(OOP) framework is presented to solve plane elastostatic contact problems by means of the boundary element method(BEM). Unified modeling language(UML) is chosen to describe the structure of the program without loss of generality, even though all implemented codes are written with C++. The implementation is based on computational abstractions of both mathematical and physical concepts associated with contact mechanics involving geometrical nonlinearities and the corner node problems for multi-valued traction. The overall class organization for contact analysis is discussed in detail. Numerical examples are also presented to verify the accuracy of the developed BEM program.

  • There are many industrial applications including thin-body structures such as fins. For the numerical modeling of radiation of sound from thin bodies, the conventional boundary element method (BEM) using the Helmholtz integral equation fails to yield a reliable solution. Therefore, many researchers have tried to solve the thin-body acoustic problems. In the area of the design sensitivity analysis (DSA) and optimization methods, however, there has been just a few study reported. Especially fur the thin-body acoustics, however, no further study in the DSA and optimization fields has been reported. In this research, the normal derivative integral equation is adopted as an analysis formulation in the thin-body acoustics, and then used for the sizing DSA and optimization. Since the gradient-based method is used for the optimization, it is important to have accurate gradients (design sensitivities) of the objective function and constraints with respect to the design variables. The DSA formulations are derived through chain-ruled derivatives using the finite element method (FEM) and BEM by using the direct differentiation and continuum variation concepts. The proposed approaches are implemented and validated using a numerical example.
