Design of the Satellite Beacon Receiver Using Array Based Digital Filter (다중배열 디지털필터를 이용한 위성비콘 수신기 설계)

  • The beacon receiver is an equipment which detects and measures the signal strength of transmitting satellite beacon signal. Beacon signals transmitted by satellites are low power continuous wave(CW) signals without any modulation intended for antenna steering to satellite direction and power control purposes on the earth. The beacon signal detection method using a very narrow band analog filter and RSSI(Received Signal Strength Intensity) has been typically used. However, it requires the implementation to track the frequency at the beacon receiver, thus a beacon frequency variation of the satellite due to temperature changes and long-term operation. Therefore, in this paper, the beacon signal detection receiver is designed by using a very narrow band digital filter array for a faster acquisition and SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) method detection. For this purpose, by calculating the satellite link budget with the rain attenuation between satellite and ground station, and then extracting the received $C/N_o$ of the beacon signal, this work derives the bandwidth and the array number of the configured digital filter that gives the required C/N.

  • In this paper, we propose an electronic attendance management system using the bluetooth function of the beacon and BLE advertising function of the smart phone. In the beacon-only bluetooth attendance confirmation system, it is needed more than one beacons according to the class room sizes. A BLE advertising function based attendance confirmation system can not provide the information about the location of the attendances. In the proposed system, we can identify the location of the instructor using the beacon of the class room, and confirm the attendances by checking the position of the attendances's smart phone. In this system, we can achieves the goals of electronic attendance management system using only one beacon per a class room.

  • In this paper, optimal parameters of a hopping pilot beacon are analyzed in a CDMA mobile cellular network. The hopping pilot beacon is used for inter-frequency handoff. It can reduce the number of pilot beacons needed for the inter-frequency handoff by transmitting neighbor frequency pilots periodically through a pilot beacon. The optimal parameters for transmission time and period of the hopping pilot bacon are derived by mathematical approach. It is highly recommended that the optimal values for the hopping pilot beacon under various operation environments.

  • In part I, we studied only step speed control for train, the second part extended to beacon signaling system and moving block system. With the calculated braking distance in part I, part II showed how to reduce headway using the beacon signaling system and moving block system, revealed that the beacon system has a braking distance advantage for sighting allowance with compared to step speed control, proposed beacon installation interval and revealed the braking distance with moving block system being nearly approached to train pure braking distance. We compared three different train control system to decide the best signaling system for a given condition and obtained the result that three systems have a same headway near 10~13 steps speed control.

  • 저전력 블루투스(BLE, Bluetooth Low Energy)를 이용해 사람이나 사물의 위치를 파악하는 근거리 무선 통신 기술을 제공한다. 과거에는 GPS로 건물 밖의 이동 데이터만 확인 가능 했다면, Beacon은 실내에서의 객체 이동 위치 데이터와 이동 경로를 측정 할 수 있는 기술이다. 본 애플리케이션에서는 BLE를 통한 비콘셀이 항시 ID를 주변으로 뿌리고, 이를 인식한 단말기가 수신한 ID를 통해 Beacon 서비스 서버에 접속하여 정보를 받는 방식으로, Beacon이 설치된 장소에서 특정 범위 안에 있는 단말기기는 Beacon 서버를 통하여 관광지의 정보 서비스를 제공한다.

Study on Distance Measurement of Beacon Using Extended Kalman Filter (확장 칼만 필터를 이용한 비콘의 거리 측정에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, inaccurate RSSI values of beacons are corrected using extended Kalman filter. For the experiment, the beacon was manufactured using Arduino Uno board and HM-10 Bluetooth module. RSSI values according to the distance between beacon and the viewer were measured at intervals of 1m, 1.5m, 2m, 2.5m, 3m, 3.5m, 4m, 4.5m, and 5m. To remove the irregular signal pattern of the beacon, the extended Kalman filter was applied to obtain the average and standard deviation of the actual distance and the measured distance, and it was confirmed that more than 76.6% of the irregular signal pattern was removed after using the extended Kalman filter.In addition, through the smartphone app, it was confirmed that the distance accuracy between the beacon and the measurer was less than the actual distance and the measured distance within 2m, and the standard deviation was small.

  • Recently BLE beacon has been widely used as a method for measuring the indoor location in the IoT Technique. But it requires a filtering technique for the measurement of the correct position. It is used the most fixed beacon. It is not accurate that calculates the position information through the identification of the beacon signal. Therefore, filtering is important. So it takes a lot of time, position measurement and filtering. Thus, we is to measure the exact position at the indoor using a mobile beacon. The measured beacon signal is composed of an ontology for reuse in the same pattern. RSSI is measured the receiver is the distance of the beacon. And this value configure the location ontology to be normalized by the relationship analysis between the values. The ontology is a method for calculating the position information of the moving beacon. It can detect fast and accurate indoor position information and provide the service.

  • This paper proposes a way of expanding the use area of localization technique by using a beacon. In other words, we have developed the auto-calibration algorithm that recognizes the location of this beacon by attaching the beacon on an arbitrary position and by using the information of existing beacon under this situation. By doing so, the moving robot can overcome the limitation that the localization of moving robot is only possible within the area that has installed the existing beacon since the beacon cannot be installed on the accurate location when passing through a danger zone or an unknown zone. Accordingly, the moving robot can slowly move to the unknown zone according to this auto-calibration algorithm and can recognize its own location at a later time in a safe zone. The localization technique is essentially needed in using a moving robot and it is necessary to guarantee certain degree of reliability. Generally, moving robots are designed in a way to work well under the situation that the surroundings is well arranged and the localization techniques of using camera, laser and beacon are well developed. However due to the characteristics of sensor, there may be the cases that the place is dark, interfering radio waves, and/or difficult to install a beacon. The effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper has been proved through an experiment in this paper.

BLE-OTP Authorization Mechanism for iBeacon Network Security (iBeacon 네트워크 보안을 위한 BLE-OTP 인증 메커니즘)

  • Machine to Machine (M2M) technology has gained attention due to the fast diffusion of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and smart devices. Most wireless network experts believe that Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Communications technology in an iBeacon network has amazing advantages in terms of providing communication services at a low cost in smartphone applications. Specifically, BLE does not require any pairing process during its communication phases, so it is possible to send a message to any node without incurring additional transmissions costs if they are within the BLE communication range. However, BLE does not require any security verification during communication, so it has weak security. Therefore, a security authorization process would be necessary to obtain customer confidence. To provide security functions for iBeacon, we think that the iBeacon Message Encryption process and a Decryption (Authorization) process should be designed and implemented. We therefore propose the BLE message Authorization Mechanism based on a One Time Password Algorithm (BLE-OTP). The effectiveness of our mechanism is evaluated by conducting a performance test on an attendance system based on BLE-OTP.

A Study on the Determinants of Acceptance of Beacon as an O2O Marketing Media: Focusing on the Difference between Beacon Accepter and Non-accepter (O2O 마케팅 수단으로서 비콘의 수용에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 비콘 수용자와 비수용자의 차이를 중심으로)

  • This study tries to grasp the factor that affects the acceptance of beacon as an O2O marketing tool. This study examined whether there is a difference between beacon accepter as a means of marketing communication and non-accepter in terms of related variables. As a result, there were significant differences between beacon perceiver and non-perceiver in 'smartphone usage' and 'brand consciousness'. In order to understand the predictive variables influencing beacon acceptance as a means of marketing communication, this study used 'perceiving beacon as a marketing communication media' as a dependent variable to perform logistic regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that 'smartphone usage' and 'brand consciousness' were the predictive variables affecting beacon perceiving. This study tried to analysis the results in the viewpoint of perceived usefulness and ease-of-use which were insisted by TAM.
