When interpolating chrominance signal, the H.264/AVC standard uses linear interpolation. In this paper, we suggest more effective method that uses a high precision filter, 6-tap FIR filter, 2-tap linear filter for chroma interpolation. The experimental result shows that the proposed method achieves the BD-Rate decrease without the PSNR decrease compared with Jm11.0kta2.7. The maximum BD-rate improvements on Y component are 1.3%, those of Cb and Cr components are 19.8%, 25.0%, respectively. The average BD-rate improvements on Y component are 0.5%, those of Cb and Cr components are 6.1%, 6.9%, respectively.

This paper proposes a method for reducing the complexity of LIC (Local Illuminance Compensation) for bi-directional inter prediction. The LIC performs local illumination compensation using neighboring reconstruction samples of the current block and the reference block to improve the accuracy of the inter prediction. Since the weight and offset required for local illumination compensation are calculated at both sides of the encoder and decoder using the reconstructed samples, there is an advantage that the coding efficiency is improved without signaling any information. Since the weight and the offset are obtained in the encoding prediction step and the decoding step, encoder and decoder complexity are increased. This paper proposes two methods for low complexity LIC. The first method is a method of applying illumination compensation with offset only in bi-directional prediction, and the second is a method of applying LIC after weighted average step of reference block obtained by bidirectional prediction. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, BD-rate is compared with BMS-2.0.1 using B, C, and D classes of MPEG standard experimental image under RA (Random Access) condition. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the average of 0.29%, 0.23%, 0.04% for Y, U, and V in terms of BD-rate performance compared to BMS-2.0.1 and encoding/decoding time is almost same. Although the BD-rate was lost, the calculation complexity of the LIC was greatly reduced as the multiplication operation was removed and the addition operation was halved in the LIC parameter derivation process.
Aliphatic polyester, especially poly(butylene adipate)(PBA), is quite biodegradable and one of the most promising polymer materials to be commercialized. Bis(4-hydroxybutyl) adipate (BHBA) formation stage is the first principal process in the production of PBA from adipic acid (AA) and 1,4-butane diol (BD). In this study, we investigated for the effective production of Bis(4-hydroxybutyl) adipate (BHBA), effects of molar ratio of adipic acid (AA) to 1,4-butane diol (BD), catalyst (tetrabutyl titanate, TBT) concentration, and temperature on the reaction rate of esterification between AA and BD were investigated. Initial reaction rate of the esterification decreased with increasing molar ratio of AA to BD and reaction temperature, whereas reaction constant increased with increase in catalyst-concentration. Activation energy values for catalyzed and uncatalyzed esterifications were 198.5 and 94.8 kJ/mol, respectively.
Recently, the JCT-VC is developing the next generation video coding standard that is called HEVC. HEVC has adopted many coding technologies increasing coding efficiency. For chroma interpolation, DCT-based interpolation filter showing better performance than the linear filter in H.264/AVC was adopted in HEVC. In this paper, a combined filter that utilizes the FIR filter and the linear filter in H.264/AVC is proposed to increase coding efficiency. When the proposed method is compared with DCT-based interpolation filter, the experimental results for various sequences show that the average BD-rate improvements on chroma U and V components are 0.9% and 1.1%, respectively, in the high efficiency case of random access structure, those on U and V components are 1.1% and 1.1%, respectively, in the low complexity case of random access structure, those on U and V components are 0.9% and 1.4%, respectively, in the high efficiency case of low delay structure, and those on U and V components are 1.8% and 1.8%, respectively, in the low complexity case of low delay structure.
The feature map used in the network for deep learning generally has larger data than the image and a higher compression rate than the image compression rate is required to transmit the feature map. This paper proposes a method for transmitting a pyramid feature map with high compression rate, which is used in a network with an FPN structure that has robustness to object size in deep learning-based image processing. In order to efficiently compress the pyramid feature map, this paper proposes a structure that predicts a pyramid feature map of a level that is not transmitted with pyramid feature map of some levels that transmitted through the proposed prediction network to efficiently compress the pyramid feature map and restores compression damage through the proposed reconstruction network. Suggested mAP, the performance of object detection for the COCO data set 2017 Train images of the proposed method, showed a performance improvement of 31.25% in BD-rate compared to the result of compressing the feature map through VTM12.0 in the rate-precision graph, and compared to the method of performing compression through PCA and DeepCABAC, the BD-rate improved by 57.79%.

The front-end system having a capable of 2x reading and writing of BD-R/Ra/ROM is developed. Its readability is improved by adopting 5-tap adaptive partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) with the PR(a,b,c,d,e) type channel. Due to the proposed PRML, less than $2{\times}10^{-4}$ of the bit error rate (BER) is achieved with radial and tangential tilt margin of over${\mp}0.6{\circ}$ on 25GB disc in 2x speed. The method of an optimum Power control (OPC) for stable writing of various BD-R/RE is proposed. The developed chip contains 14-million transistors in a $60mm^2$ dies, and is fabricated in $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

The Blu-ray Disc Recordable(BD-R) is one of strong candidates for archival application among optical media formats, because of its large capability. However, the well-defined accelerated aging test conditions and evaluation criteria have not yet been fully confirmed for BD-R. In this study, the data stability and degradation aspect of BD-R were analyzed by the random-symbol error rate(R-SER) measurement after the accelerated aging test. And a reasonable test condition of accelerated aging for BD-R and the appropriate evaluation criterion using R-SER measurement were discussed.

The Blu-ray Disc Recordable-Triple Layer (BD-R TL) media is considered as one of strong candidates for archival application among optical media formats, due to its large capacity. However, the long-term stability and degradation aspect have not been fully understood yet for BD-R TL media. Thus, the BD-R TL media were recorded at full tracks and analyzed by the random-symbol error rate (R-SER) measurement at different recording layers and recording positions after the accelerated aging test to understand its long-term stability. Finally, the general degradation aspect of BD-R TL media was discussed to improve the long-term stability.
The High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard provides superior coding efficiency by utilizing highly flexible block structure and more diverse coding modes. However, rate-distortion optimization (RDO) process for the decision of optimal block size and prediction mode requires excessive computational complexity. To alleviate the computation load, this paper proposes a new moment-based fast CU size decision algorithm for intra coding in HEVC. In the proposed method, moment values are computed in each CU block to estimate the texture complexity of the block from which the decision on an additional CU splitting procedure is performed. Unlike conventional methods which are mostly variance-based approaches, the proposed method incorporates the third-order moments of the CU block in the design of the fast CU size decision algorithm, which enables an elaborate classification of CU types and thus improves the RD-performance of the fast algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed method saves 32% encoding time with 1.1% increase of BD-rate compared to HM-10.0, and 4.2% decrease of BD-rate compared to the conventional variance-based fast algorithm.
In this paper, the fast encoding algorithm in High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) encoder was studied. For the encoding efficiency, the current HEVC reference software is divided the input image into Coding Tree Unit (CTU). then, it should be re-divided into CU up to maximum depth in form of quad-tree for RDO (Rate-Distortion Optimization) in encoding precess. But, it is one of the reason why complexity is high in the encoding precess. In this paper, to reduce the high complexity in the encoding process, it proposed the method by determining the maximum depth of the CU using a hierarchical clustering at the pre-processing. The hierarchical clustering results represented an average combination of motion vectors (MV) on neighboring blocks. Experimental results showed that the proposed method could achieve an average of 16% time saving with minimal BD-rate loss at 1080p video resolution. When combined the previous fast algorithm, the proposed method could achieve an average 45.13% time saving with 1.84% BD-rate loss.
