  • 1,2,3,4,5,6-Hexaalkyl-1,4-dibora-2-cyclohexene was not produced by the general preparation method in our laboratory because of difficulties in the preparation of $B_2Cl_4.$ 2,3-Dietyl-1,4,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-dibora-2-cyclohexene, 2 was synthesized by the reduction-oxidation reaction of potassium and methyliodide from 1,4-dimethyl-2,3-diethyl-1,4-dibora-2-cyclohexene, 1 as a substrate. Cobalt sandwich-complexes, 6, 7 and 8 were synthesized by the reaction of 2,3-diethyl-1,4,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-dibora-2-cyclohexene with $({\eta}5-C_5H_5Co(C_2H_4)_2.$.

  • Bacillus polyfermenticus SCD which is commonly called as Bisroot strain is being used for functional foods through the treatment of long-term intestinal disorders, since the live strains in the form of active endospores can successfully reach the target intestine in humans. The cells of B. polyfermenticus SCD were treated for 4h in artificial gastric juice (pH 2.0,3.0) and bile acid. Final viability of the strain in artificial gastric Juice (pH 2.0, 3.0) is reached to 62.8% and 81.2% respectively B. polyfermenticus SCD is resistant to antibiotics such as streptomycin, rifampicin, nystatin and ampicilin. B. polyfermenticus SCD is well known supplies the nutrients by synthesizing vitamin $B_1$, $B_2$, C and K. B. polyfermenticus SCD produces various digestive enzymes and the enzymes enable to completely digest diets in our body. Above all, $\alpha$-amylase and pretense activities are very higher than B. subtilis KCTC 1020, about two fold and twenty five fold respectively. B. polyfermenticus SCD is very stable during long-term storage period in phosphate buffers of wide-range pH, solutions of various concentrations of sodium chloride, 5% glucose solution and water.

Synergistic effect of phosphate solubilization by Burkholderia strains isolated from button mushroom bed (양송이배지로부터 분리한 Burkholderia균의 인산가용화 공조효과)

  • This study investigated the synergistic effect of single inoculation and co-inoculation of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) Burkholderia metallica JH-7 and Burkholderia contaminans JH-15. Phosphate-solubilizing abilities of these strains were assessed by measuring phosphorus content in culture media that were singly inoculated or co-inoculated with these strains for 7 days. B. metallica JH-7 was found to release the highest content of soluble phosphorus ($140.80{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ ) into the medium, followed by single inoculation of B. contaminans JH-15 ($135.95{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ ) and co-inoculation of two strains ($134.84{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ ). The highest pH reduction, organic acid production, and glucose consumption were observed in the medium inoculated with B. metallica JH-7 alone compared with that in the medium co-inoculated with both the strains. Results of a plant growth promotion bioassay showed 17.4% and 7.48% higher leaf and root growth, respectively, in romaine lettuce inoculated with B. metallica JH-7 alone than in romaine lettuce inoculated with a control strain. However, no significant difference was observed between single inoculation and co-inoculation of these strains with respect to phosphorus release and plant growth. Although the results of the present study did not show the synergistic effect of phosphate solubilization by the PSB strains examined, these results indicate that treatment with PSB exerts a beneficial effect on crop growth.

Effect of Oxygen and Diborane Gas Ratio on P-type Amorphous Silicon Oxide films and Its Application to Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells

  • We reported diborane ($B_2H_6$) doped wide bandgap hydrogenated amorphous silicon oxide (p-type a-SiOx:H) films prepared by using silane ($SiH_4$) hydrogen ($H_2$) and nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) in a radio frequency (RF) plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) system. We improved the $E_{opt}$ and conductivity of p-type a-SiOx:H films with various $N_2O$ and $B_2H_6$ ratios and applied those films in regards to the a-Si thin film solar cells. For the single layer p-type a-SiOx:H films, we achieved an optical band gap energy ($E_{opt}$) of 1.91 and 1.99 eV, electrical conductivity of approximately $10^{-7}$ S/cm and activation energy ($E_a$) of 0.57 to 0.52 eV with various $N_2O$ and $B_2H_6$ ratios. We applied those films for the a-Si thin film solar cell and the current-voltage characteristics are as given as: $V_{oc}$ = 853 and 842 mV, $J_{sc}$ = 13.87 and 15.13 $mA/cm^2$. FF = 0.645 and 0.656 and ${\eta}$ = 7.54 and 8.36% with $B_2H_6$ ratios of 0.5 and 1% respectively.

  • Two new barium vanadium borophosphate compounds, $(NH_4)_2(C_2H_{10}N_2)_6[Ba(H_2O)_5]_2[V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6{\cdot}8H_2O$, Ba- VBPO1 and $(NH_4)_8(C_3H_{12}N_2)_4[Ba(H_2O)_7][V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6{\cdot}17H_2O$, Ba-VBPO2 have been synthesized by interdiffusion methods in the presence of diprotonated ethylenediamine and 1,3-diaminopropane. Compound Ba-VBPO1 has an infinite chain anion (${[BaH_2O)_5]_2[V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6}$$^{14-}$, whereas Ba-VBPO2 has a discrete cluster anion {[$Ba(H_2O)_7][V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6$}$^{16-}$.   • The magnetic and metallurgical characteristics of Mischmetal(MM) -Ferroboron (FeB) Permanent magnets have been investigated by X-ray diffractometer, scanning and transmission electron microscope and vibrating sample magnetometer under hot-pressing and die-upsetting process. The best magnetic properties obtained in these studies were $H_c$=5.8 kOe, $B_r$=5.0 kG with $(BH)_{max}=7.6 MGOe for melt-spun ribbons, $H_c$=3.0 kOe, $B_r$=4.6 kG with $(BH)_{max}$=2.9 MGOe for hot-pressed magnets and $H_c$=1.8 kOe, $B_r$=5.5 kG with $(BH)_{max}$=4.1 MGOe for die-upset magnets. The higher magnetic properties in die-upset magnets were resulted from alignment of the c-axis along the die-upsetting direction.

Studies on the Growth Characteristics of Bifidobacteria, Organic Acids and n-hexanal Contents During the Fermentation of Enzyme Treated Soy Yogurt (효소처리 분리대두단백의 요구르트 발효 중 비피더스균의 생육특성 및 유기산과 n-hexanal 함량에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the quality attributes of soy yogurts prepared by different types of oligosaccharides (fructooligosaccharide, galactooligosaccharide , isomaltooligosaccharide) and Bifidobacteria (B. bifidum B. breve, B. infantis) containing enzyme treated soy protein isolate in terms of pH, titratable acidity, total number of viable cells of Bifidobacteria, ${\alpha}$-galactosidase activity, organic acids, volatile compounds. The pH values of soy yogurts fermented by B. bifidum showed the highest significantly but those fermented by B. infantis showed the lowest significantly, while the titratable acidity of soy yogurts were vice versa. The viable cells of Bifidobacteria of all soy yogurts showed more than 10$\^$9/ CFU/ml and soy yogurts fermented by B. infantis showing below pH 4.6 showed more than 10$\^$9/ CFU/ml after storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ for 7 days. The activity of ${\alpha}$-galactosidase showed the highest in the culture of B. infantis among the Bifidobacteria tested. Among the Bifidobacteria tested, the contents of lactic acid and acetic acid showed the highest in soy yogurts fermented by B. infantis but citric acid and propionic acid were the lowest. Among the Bifidobacteria tested, the contents of n-hexanal showed the highest in soy yogurts fermented by B. breve and a little amounts of acetaldehyde were present in all soy yogurts.

Effect of Forging Condition on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in Centrifugal Casted Heat Resistant Steel (원심주조된 내열강의 미세조직 및 기계적성질에 미치는 단조 조건의 영향)

  • The effect of forging start temperature, forging ratio on the microstructure and mechanical properties of B7B4 steel ware investigated. Microstructure of centrifugal casted B7B4 steel consisted of martensite and ferrite phase. The volume fraction of ferrite increased with increase of forging start temperature and decreased with increase of forging ratio. Tensile strength and hardness decreased with higher of forging start temperature, while impact value and elongation increased with higher of forging start temperature. With increase of forging ratio, tensile strength rapidly increased up to the forging ratio of 30%, and then slowly increased, but elongation was decreased. Hardness and impact value rapidly increased with increase of forging ratio.

  • This study has been carried out to evaluate the performance of $PbO_2$ electrode for the purpose of degradation of N,N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline (RNO, indicator of OH radical), generation of ozone and decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water. The effect of the applied current (0.2~1.2 A), electrolyte type (NaCl, KCl and $Na_2SO_4$), electrolyte concentration (0.0~2.5 g/L) and solution pH (3~11) were evaluated. Experimental results showed that RhB and RNO removal were increased with the increase of current, NaCl dosage and decrease of pH. Ozone generation tendencies appeared with the almost similar to the RhB and RNO degradation, except of solution pH (Ozone generation was increased with increase of pH). Optimum current for RhB degradation and consumption of electric power was 1.0 A. The RhB degradation with Cl type electrolyte were higher than that with the sulfate type. Optimum NaCl dosage for RhB degradation was 1.0 g/L.

  • The compositions of the four madia and their pHs for delta endotoxin production by B. thuringiensis serovar kurstaki 3a3b were examined. In the M-4 media out of the 4 media at pH8, the production of the endotoxin and spore formation were maximal. The mean generation times of the bacterium were 53.4 minutes in the M-1 media, 98 in the M-2, 132 in the M-3, and 127.5 in the M-4. The proper pHs of the media for the endotoxin production appeared to be pH 7 to 8. In the M-4 media, the lag time lasted about 5 hours.
