Two dimensional velocity distributions outside a Mach 2.0 supersonic nozzle have been investigated using digital particle image velocimetry (PIV). Mean velocities, turbulence intensities, vorticity field and volume dilatation field are obtained from 300 instantaneous PIV images using 0.33 $\mu\textrm{m}$$TiO_2$ particle. The seeding particle of larger size, 1.4 $\mu\textrm{m}$$TiO_2$, is also used for the experimental measurements of velocity lag downstream of shock waves according to particle sizes. The results have been compared and analyzed with schlieren photographs and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results for the velocity distribution, the locations of shock waves and over-expanded shock structure. It was shown that the locations of normal shock and shock waves can be resolved by the axial or radial velocities, and the velocity lag is more significantly increased due to particle inertia as a particle size increases. And it was also found that over-expanded shock structures call be predicted by volume dilatation fields, and streamwise turbulence intensities are influenced significantly by normal shock waves.
A circular tube undergoes bucking behavior when it is subjected to axial loading. An upper bound analysis can be an attractive approach to predict the buckling load and energy absorption efficiently. The upper bound analysis obtains the load or energy absorption by means of assumption of the kinematically admissible velocity fields. In order to obtain an accurate solution, kinematically admissible velocity fields should be defined by considering many factors such as geometrical parameters, dynamic effect, etc. In this study, experiments and finite element analyses are carried out for circular tubes with various dimensions and loading conditions. As a result, the kinematically admissible velocity field is newly proposed in order to consider various dimensions and the strain rate effect of material. The upper bound analysis with the suggested velocity field accurately estimates the mean load and energy absorption obtained from results of experiment and finite element analysis.
An experimental study was performed for turbulent flow behind a circular and a square cylinder by using 2-D PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) technique in a cylindrical tube. The Reynolds number investigated were 10,000, 30,000 and 50,000. The measuring system consists of CCD camera. Ar-ion laser, image grabber and a host computer. The mean velocity vector, time mean axial velocity, turbulent intensity and Reynolds shear stress were measured along the test tube. The results are compared each other for the circular and the square cylinder.
In this study, the characteristics of high-pressure swirl injector have been studied using a commercial CFD code, STAR-CD and experiment to investigate the effect of the length of orifice and swirl port on the spray characteristics. Influences of swirl port angle and initial conditions have also been examined in terms of penetration depth and Sauter`s mean diameter. Computed results of the spray characteristics are compared with experimental results. The results show that the tangential velocity at the nozzle exit decreases, but the axial velocity increases as swirl port angle is increased. Hence, the static flow rate increases, but the initial spray angle decreases with increasing the swirl port angle. It is also shown that the values of the initial SMD used as input data for spray simulation influences the penetration depth and SMD. The spray pattern from the present numerical simulation agrees well with experimental result.
Enthalpy transport in a pulse tube was investigated by two-dimensional analysis of mass. momentum an energy equations of the gas as well as energy conservation of the tube wall. The mean temperature of the gas and the tube wall was obtained directly by assuming that the outer surface of a pules tibe wall is adiabatic. Axial profile of mean temperature is small. but it deviates significantly from linear profile when the dimensionless frequency is large. Effect of operating frequency. tube wall thickness, velocity ratio and velocity phase angle between both ends of a pulse tube on net enthalpy flow were shown.

An experimental study is performed on the turbulent swirling flow behind a crcular cylinder using 2-D PIV technique. The Reynolds numbers investigated are 10.000, 15,000. 20.000 and 25.000. The mean velocity vector, time mean axial velocity, turbulence intensity, kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress behind the cylinder are measured before and behind the cylinder along the test tube. A comparison is included without swirling flow behind a circular and square cylinder. The recirculation zones are shown unsymmetric profiles.
In the present study, the flow characteristics of developing laminar oscillatory flows in a square -sectional 180 deg. curved duct are investigated experimentally. The experimental study using air in a square-sectional 180 deg. curved duct is carried out to measure velocity distributions with a data acquisition and LDV (Laser Doppler Velocimetry) processing system. In this system, Rotating Machinery Resolver (RMR) and PHASE program are used to obtain the results of unsteady flows. The major flow characteristics of developing oscillatory flows are found by analyzing velocity curves, mean velocity profiles, time-averaged velocity distribution of secondary flow, wall shear stress distributions, and entrance lengths. In a lower dimensionless angular frequency, the axial velocity distribution of laminar oscillatory flow in a curved duct shows a convex shape in a central part and axial symmetry. The maximum value of wall shear stress in a lower dimensionless angular frequency is located in an outside wall, but according to increasing the dimensionless angular frequency, the maximum of wall shear stress is moved to inner wall. The entrance lengths of laminar oscillatory flows in a square-sectional 180 deg. curved duct is obtained to 90 deg. of bended angle of duct in this experimental conditions.

An experimental study is performed on atomization characteristics and stable operating conditions for the injection of high viscous waste vegetable oil using an effervescent atomizer with 2 aerator tubes. Consideration is given to the effects of ALR and liquid viscosity on the velocity and mean diameter of the injected droplet. It is found that (i) as ALR increases, the axial velocity of the droplet is increased, while half-velocity width and SMD are decreased regardless of the change in liquid viscosities, (ii) the rate of fine drop distribution occupied in the total spray field is increased with an increase in ALR, and (iii) the effect of viscosity on the atomization characteristics is minor. Consequently, it is expected that the effervescent atomizer will exhibit an excellent atomization performance at the high ALR condition, regardless of liquid viscosities.
Flow pulsation in the gap connecting with two parallel channels is investigated by RANS and URANS approaches. The two parallel channels are connected by a small channel called for a gap. The parallel channels are designed to have different cross section area with its ratio of 0.5. Computations are conducted using a CFX 11.0 code. The bulk Reynolds number is 60,000. Predicted results are compared with the previous experimental data. Mean velocity profile at the center of gap region are compared with experiments for its validation. Spectral analysis on the lateral velocity in the center of the gap was performed. Auto correlation for the axial-flow velocity pattern was presented. The unsteady structure of the flow pulsation was visualized in the region of the gap in the parallel channel.
