  • This study aims to explore the possibility of using the urban rooftop biotope as a place for environmental education, focusing on 'Jageun-Nuri' Rooftop Biotope of UNESCO House in Seoul, which was established in April 2003. To verify this possibility, both the monitoring of change in the landscapes and bio-diversity of the biotope and a questionnaire survey on users' awareness were undertaken. As a result of the monitoring, diverse changes in landscape and an increase of bio-diversity necessary for environmental education were observed. The results of the awareness survey recognized that users were satisfied with the landscapes of the biotope and their concerns about environment and ecosystem increased due to their visits. Users also thought the biotope could be an appropriate place for environmental education.

  • Purpose: The present international survey among healthcare providers aimed to collect data on theoretical knowledge and clinical practices in the diagnosis and management of cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) and lactose intolerance (LI) in infants. Methods: A global survey was conducted in several countries with diverse health care settings. The survey consisted of multiple-choice questions in 3 main domains: (1) understanding and clinical practices around CMPA and LI; (2) case scenarios; and (3) disease-specific knowledge and potential educational needs. Results: Responses were available from 1,663 participants. About 62% of respondents were general practitioners or general pediatricians, and the remainder were pediatric allergists/gastroenterologists (18%) or other health practitioners (20%). The survey identified knowledge gaps regarding the types of CMPA (IgE-mediated vs. non-IgE-mediated) and the clinical overlap with LI. The survey suggested diverse clinical practices regarding the use of hypoallergenic formulas, as well as misconceptions about the prebiotic benefits of lactose in extensively hydrolyzed formulas in non-breastfed infants with CMPA. Responses to the two case scenarios highlighted varying levels of awareness of the relevant clinical practice guidelines. While respondents generally felt confident in managing infants with CMPA and LI, about 80% expressed an interest for further training in this area. Conclusion: The current survey identified some knowledge gaps and regional differences in the management of infants with CMPA or LI. Local educational activities among general and pediatric healthcare providers may increase the awareness of clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of both conditions and help improve clinical outcomes.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for assessing teachers' awareness of science teaching through analogy (ASTA) and to establish its validity and reliability. Based on the literatures on science teaching with analogies, we constructed 23 survey items. Face validity of the items was established using three science education experts. Through exploratory factor analysis with responses of 35 pre- and 26 inservice elementary school teachers, the instruments were constructed on four subcategories: awareness of analogies in science, use of analogy in teaching and learning, self-efficacy in science knowledge, and knowledge of analogy. The data collected from pre- and in-service elementary teachers demonstrated that overall the teachers' awareness of analogy in science was neutral, which indicated they did not have clear standpoints of science teaching through analogy. Further examination demonstrated that there was no significant difference between pre- and in-service teachers and between two genders. Moreover, there was no significant difference among teachers who preferred either didactic or discovery teaching approaches. We conclude that ASTA test would contribute assessment of teachers' awareness of analogy in science teaching while further examination of the instrument will warrant for its broader use.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to set brand awareness and brand image as independent variables from Keller's (1993) definition of brand equity and to analyze whether those variables have an influence on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty with perceived quality and value as mediator variables. Research design, data, and methodology - Data is collected through questionnaires from 200 of responders. Survey respondents were young people who use convenience stores. Questionnaires were tested in October 2017. SPSS and AMOS were used for structural equation as an analysis method. Results - The analysis results specified above can be summarized as follows: 1) Brand awareness had statistically significant influence on perceived quality and perceived value; 2) Brand image had a positive (+) influence on perceived quality and had no significant influence on perceived value; 3) Perceived quality and perceived value had a significant influence on customer satisfaction, and customer satisfaction had a statistically significant influence on customers' repurchase intention. Conclusions - Brand awareness and brand image had an influence on young consumers' decision-making process for purchasing PB food products. Convenience stores have to focus on developing food products with brand awareness and brand image more suitable for satisfying consumer preferences.

  • Background: Breast and cervical cancers are the most common types of cancer in women worldwide. Previous studies in Asia have shown that related knowledge and awareness is low among female university students. The goal of this study was to assess breast and cervical cancer knowledge, practices, and awareness among female university students in Samsun,Turkey. Materials and Methods: This research was a cross-sectional survey of female university students using a self-administered. questionnaire to investigate participant awareness and knowledge of breast and cervical cancer. A total of 301 female university students participated. Descriptive statistics and chi square tests were used for data analysis. Results: The mean age of the participants in this study was $22.0{\pm}5.91$ years. Regarding family history, 89.7 % of the students had no known familial history of breast cancer. Students (65.4%) had knowledge about breast self examination and 52.2 % of them had performed breast self examinationm while 55.1% of them had knowledge about prevention of cervical cancer. Conclusions: Although the results are preliminary, the study points to an insufficient knowledge of university students in Samsun about breast and cervical cancer.
