Background: Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are often the main pillar of an economy. Minor accidents, ergonomics problems, old and outdated machinery, and lack of awareness have created a need for implementation of safety practices in SMEs. Implementation of healthy working conditions creates positive impacts on economic and social development. Methods: In this study, a questionnaire was developed and administered to 30 randomly chosen SMEs in and around Mumbai, Maharashtra, and other states in India to evaluate safety practices implemented in their facilities. The study also looked into the barriers and drivers for technology innovation and suggestions were also received from the respondent SMEs for best practices on safety issues. Results: In some SMEs, risks associated with safety issues were increased whereas risks were decreased in others. Safety management practices are inadequate in most SMEs. Market competitiveness, better efficiency, less risk, and stringent laws were found to be most significant drivers; and financial constraints, lack of awareness, resistance to change, and lack of training for employees were found to be main barriers. Conclusion: Competition between SMEs was found to be major reason for implementation of safety practices in the SMEs. The major contribution of the study has been awareness building on safety issues in the SMEs that participated in the project.

The present study examined the role of dialogue journaling in Korean students' English writing development. Thirteen Korean middle school students participated in a five-week dialogue journal writing program. The participants' English writing skills before and after their dialogue journaling were compared in terms of holistic and analytical scores of their English essays. The study also examined the changes in the participants' language use, as manifested in their dialogue journals. The results indicated the positive influence of dialogue journal writing on the participants' English writing skills in the areas of content and lexical fluency. As for the linguistic evidence that related dialogue journaling to English writing development, the three patterns of change in language use emerged from the participants' dialogue journals: a) raised awareness on grammar conventions, b) raised awareness on discourse conventions, and c) increased depth and richness in idea development. There were also three unhelpful factors associated with little improvement of English writing: a) lack in basic writing skills, b) repetitive use of identical sentence patterns, and c) lack in grammatical and lexical awareness. Overall, the results suggested that dialogue journaling could facilitate Korean students' English writing development when it creates authentic communicative interactions between the teacher and students.

This study aims to develop the education for college students who should perform the social role of the fut ure by conducting trekking activities including the characteristics, history, and culture of Cheonan area and then investigating the sociality and history of 36 college students. Taejosan, Seonggeosan, and Heukseongsan, which are part of the independent ring of Cheonan city, were selected as courses. The training was conducted by six instructors majoring in humanities, history, physical education and medicine. Teachers of humanities and history majors conducted theoretical lectures to raise the historical awareness of Cheonan area related to trekking course. In trekking practice, instructors of physical education and medicine majored in trekking safety education and course progress. Among the social development factors, responsibility, autonomy, and sociality were high. After the education, students recognized that the interest and necessity of history were high in order to understand the present society, thought that they made a lot of development compared to the previous one, and answered that the main development factors of history were the people and that there was a change in perception through this education. This study was composed of the survey after the education, so the psychological characteristics of the individual were not reflected, and it is difficult to generalize it because the number of subjects is small. In the future, more subjects need to be investigated and local residents need to investigate changes in local awareness.

With the recent advance in smartphones, users are allowed to use mobile applications anytime anywhere, and change their way to interact with smart environment and people. As a result, the need for developing context-aware applications on smartphones has a great attention from users and developers. This paper proposes a context-aware framework for supporting UI/UX of smartphones. The proposed framework collects a wide range of sensory data from smartphones and allows developers to analyze and model context models for their desired apps. In addition, it also supports real-time inference within the apps to make them to adapt to context. In order to show effectiveness of the proposed framework, we introduce two smartphone apps: context-aware home screen and automatic detection of smartphone problem use. Therefore, we expect that the proposed framework will help developers easily implement their apps with respect to context-awareness.

This study is aimed to survey on the perception of residents about general contents and current status of urban traditional houses in Cheongju. A study on methods is using questionnaire which 12 items of attraction in Urban Traditional Houses and experimental study focusing on residents in Seowoon-dong and Seokgyo-dong where traditional houses are concentrated. As a result, residents of urban traditional houses were categorized 6 sectors, which 4 sectors of Seowoon dong and 2 setors of Seokgyo-dong, caused by the road construction. The urban spatial structures of these sectors are maintained, comparing with aerial photography on 1960's. And residents recognize eco-friendly attraction higher than awareness on traditionality, locality and aesthetic beauty. It is proposed to prepare political alternative about traditionality, locality and aesthetic beauty. Low awareness about traditionality and locality have influenced that residents hope the change of the traditional houses.

The environment and the ecologic balance of the earth had been destructed by both man and ecological catastrophes and are no longer sustainable. We have no future unless we conserve our natural resourses and make efforts to change our basic patterns of consuming, production and recycling. Our earth had been contaminated without our recognition. We became indifferent to environmental problems and even more we hve lost our interest completely. To overcome this period of crisis, the concept of 'green imperative'has emerged. Since design powerfully influences our lives and the environment for good or ill, those at the forefront of design to consumers and the end-users can contribute to the well-being of the people and planet through new awareness of environmental and ecological based design. The spiritual awareness of green design will enrich the work of design through lasting performance of continuty and will make the future work.

The interest in environmental issues and the awareness of the importance of environmental education have been increasing. This research was carried out in part to respond to such a change, and it aims to search for and suggest ways to strengthen subject-based environmental education in Korea, the most significant part of the formal environmental education. One of the most important of this research was understanding the present status of environmental education of elementary, middle, and high schools in Korea, which was conducted by the questionnaire survey targeted to teachers on the subject-based environmental education. The survey was carried out comprehensively to include respondents from technical and home economics course as well as from vocational high schools. Through this survey, we gained information on the awareness of teachers and students on the objective, learning-teaching strategies and evaluation of environmental education as well as an understanding of the present status of environmental education in schools of Korea.

This study aims to explore the possibility of using the urban rooftop biotope as a place for environmental education, focusing on 'Jageun-Nuri' Rooftop Biotope of UNESCO House in Seoul, which was established in April 2003. To verify this possibility, both the monitoring of change in the landscapes and bio-diversity of the biotope and a questionnaire survey on users' awareness were undertaken. As a result of the monitoring, diverse changes in landscape and an increase of bio-diversity necessary for environmental education were observed. The results of the awareness survey recognized that users were satisfied with the landscapes of the biotope and their concerns about environment and ecosystem increased due to their visits. Users also thought the biotope could be an appropriate place for environmental education.

According to Department of labor guideline "2012-104 (2012.9.26.)" This study is to suggest the basic information and the improvement for the application of risk assessment on a construction site by group interview & survey of construction worker who is the practice of the subject and then numerical analysis about awareness and action plan of Safety and health. The result of group interview and survey of construction worker, most of construction worker feel the danger during the work. Then construction worker analysis results that risk assessment helps to change & raise awareness of safety and reduce an industrial disaster. Easy Safety management activity such as TBM & safety education active will be necessary for safe worksite and then I suggest the TBT(tool box talk) active which combines TBM & safety education.

Outwardly, the people in the shipping industry are aware that multicultural working environments and conditions could have a strong influence on the operation of ships. With a lack of cultural awareness and foreign language skill of crew members on ships, there are lots of misunderstandings and miscommunications among (cross-cultural) crews. More and more maritime accidents are caused by human error in the world's oceans. Nevertheless the research on cultural diversity and human interaction on ships is still in its infancy. Due to the rapid change of the demographic make-up of crews, not only teaching and training technical skills for the crews, but also education in nontechnical skills such as cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, intercultural competence is urgently needed. This study will deal with intercultural issues on ships. It aims to emphasize the necessity of intercultural training in MET.
