In this study, the functional cosmetic activity of hot-water (AW) and methanol(AM) extracts from Apocynum lancifolium Russanov are examined. In the DPPH antioxidant activity test, the AW extract showed the highest inhibition rate of 90.5% (IC50 37.717 ± 8.209 ㎍/mL) and the antioxidative activity of ABTS showed a high activity in the AW extract with an IC50 of 185.244 ± 12.602 ㎍/mL and 96.2%, respectively. In RAW264.7 macrophages, the two extracts significantly suppressed the LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO), TNF-α, IL-6 production and iNOS expression level. The MTT assay measured by the cell survival rate showed that AW and AM extracts have no toxicity. The astringent activity of the AW extract exhibited the highest astringent activity with 74.336±2.487 mg/mL. Therefore, these results suggest that A. lancifolium extracts have a health promotion potential which can be further developed as food additive, natural products for cosmetic purpose.
In order to establish the biological treatment system which can be used for treatment of waste aster from acetaldehyde plant, it was investigated optimum nutrient requirements and growth conditions by mixed culture of Micrococcus roseus AW-6, Micrococcus luteus AW-22, Microbacterium lacticum AW-38 and Microbacterium laevaniformans AW-41 as well as the effect of coagulants and neutralization reagents. Also, it was carried out the continuous culture as well as batch culture to treat the waste water by mixed culture of these strains. The COD removal rate was reached to maximum state for 96hrs culture at pH7.0 and $30^{\circ}C$ NaOH as the neutralization reagents was the most effective, but the coagulants had no effect on the COD remonal rate and the optimum dilution times for treatment were 10 fold. The COD removal rate was also increased by supplimenting 200 ppm $NH_{2}NO_{3}$, 50 ppm $KH_{2}PO_{4}$, 15 ppm $CaCl_{2}$ and 1 ppm $MgSO_{4} \cdot 7H_{2}O $ as additional nutrients. The removal rate coefficient $K_{1}$ on the batch culture was $4.5\times 10^{-6}$, and the detention time for BOD removal rate of 85% was approximately 45hrs. The COD of waste water was reduced to 15% of its initial value by the continuous culture. The COD and BOD of the effluents were to be about 60 ppm and 40 ppm, respectively, and final pH was 7.0.
The effect of water activity(Aw) and storage temperature on retrogradation of pregelatinized corn starch was investigated at various temperature of $4^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$. Samples stored at different water activity, i.e., 0.43, 0.52, 0.75, 0.83, 0.88 and 0.93 by means of saturated salt solutions. The rate of retrogradation was determines. by enzymic digestibility, and evaluated by Avrami equation. The degree of retrogradation during storage showed a great difference around Aw 0.8. At Aw 0.52 and 0.75 at all temperatures, retrogradation occurred slightly. The effect of water activity on retrogradation was much greater at $4^{\circ}C$ than 300. And at Aw 0.43, the degree of retrogradation after 3-week storage was smaller than 3.9%. The critical water activity of retrogradation was inferred as Aw 0.43. At each temperature, the degrees of retrogradation of gelatinized corn starch after 24-day storage were 30% at Aw 0.8 and Aw 0.9, and greater than 50% at the Aw above 0.9. At Aw below 0.8 the degree of retrogradation was about 20%. The rate constants of retrogradation according to Aw showed small differences at $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$, but showed a great difference at $4^{\circ}C$. The value of exponent of Avrami was 1.0 regardless of temperature and water activity. And the rate constants of retrogradation increased with increasing Aw, but decreased with increasing temperature.
For a Banach space operator $A{\in}B(\mathcal{X})$, let ${\sigma}(A)$, ${\sigma}_a(A)$, ${\sigma}_w(A)$ and ${\sigma}_{aw}(A)$ denote, respectively, its spectrum, approximate point spectrum, Weyl spectrum and approximate Weyl spectrum. The operator A is polaroid (resp., left polaroid), if the points $iso{\sigma}(A)$ (resp., $iso{\sigma}_a(A)$) are poles (resp., left poles) of the resolvent of A. Perturbation by compact operators preserves neither SVEP, the single-valued extension property, nor the polaroid or left polaroid properties. Given an $A{\in}B(\mathcal{X})$, we prove that a sufficient condition for: (i) A+K to have SVEP on the complement of ${\sigma}_w(A)$ (resp., ${\sigma}_{aw}(A)$) for every compact operator $K{\in}B(\mathcal{X})$ is that ${\sigma}_w(A)$ (resp., ${\sigma}_{aw}(A)$) has no holes; (ii) A + K to be polaroid (resp., left polaroid) for every compact operator $K{\in}B(\mathcal{X})$ is that iso${\sigma}_w(A)$ = ∅ (resp., $iso{\sigma}_{aw}(A)$ = ∅). It is seen that these conditions are also necessary in the case in which the Banach space $\mathcal{X}$ is a Hilbert space.

The effect of additive chemistry on the serface fatigue of gears was investigated using the FZG gear tester and fluids based on an API GL-5 grade oil. Surface fatigue lives were determined as a function of load and additive chemistry. At 1.52 GPa, the removal of the primary extreme pressure additive (EP) from the fully formulated gear oil decreased the fatigue life of gears slightly (4%), however, the removal of the primary antiwear additive (AW) decreased the fatigue life of gears significantly (83%). At 1.86 GPa, the removal of the EP additive from the fully formulated gear oil decresed the gear fatigue life 27%, however, the removal of the primary AW additive decreased the fatigue life of gears significantly (75%). Micropitting was the dominant surface morphology in the dedendum of gears tested With two oils at load stage: one using the complete additive package, and a second where the EP additive has been removed. However, spalling is the primary failure mode of gears tested without an AW additive independent of whether an EP agent was present. Surface analysis of pinion gears showed the formation of a mixed phosphate/phosphite-oxide layer on the surface of gears tested with fluids containing an AW. Formation of this layer seems to be key to long fatigue life.
This study was conducted to Investigate the treatment of wastewater from acetaldehyde manufacturing plant by activated sludge process with Micrococcus roseus AW-6, Micrococcus roseus AW-22, Microbacterium lacticum AW-38 and Mlcrobacterium nae- vaniformans AW-41. The $COD_{Mn}$ and $BOD_5$ of the wastewater were 5, 260mg/L and 6, 452mg/L, respectively. pH was 1.85. The main organic component in the wastewater was acetic acrid which was contained 67, 600mg/L. Optimum dilution time for activated sludge process was shown 10 times. The specific substrate removal rate(BL) was 1.95day-1 and the nonbiodegradable matters(Sn) were 23.2mg/L. Saturation constant (Ks) and mainmum specific growth rate(qmax) were 1, 640mg/L and 2.33day-1, respectively. Sludge yield coefficient(Y) and endogenous respiration coefficient(kd) were 0.28mg MLVSS/mgCOD and 0.02day-1, respectively. $COD_{cr}$ removal efficiency was 91% for 1.95day of hydraulic retention time.
Age determination in children have been criticized because they rely on subjective estimations of tooth development, as seen in radiographs. This study was undertaken to obtain the objective estimation of developing teeth. The panoramic radiograph of 254 males and 254 females ranging from 6 to 14 years of age were studied. The structures measured were crown height, apex width and root length. The data weree statistically investigated with SPSS/PC + package. The results were as follows : 1. With the aid of a multiple regression model, a linear relationship between some of these distances and age was shown. 2. In th total material(6-14yr) and four-yr. intervals, linear equations are as follow : Boys : 6-14 age = 683 + 145.6 44RL + 126.6.45RL + 71.1 46DRL - 161.3 46DAW 6-10 age = 1202 + 72.6 46DRL + 100.2 44RL + 75.1 45RL 8-12 age = 3818 + 75.9 45RL - 190.9 44AW 10-14 age = 4151 + 58.6 45RL - 84.0 45AW - 130.6 44AW Girls : 6-14 age = 1587 + 104.9 45RL + 113.4 44RL - 233.1 46DAW + 81.4 47DRL - 255.9 46MAW 6-10 age = 1821 + 55.8 46DRL + 67.2 45RL - 184.2 46MAW + 56.3 44RL 8-12 age = 2435 + 68.2 45RLL + 71.3 44RL 10-14 age = 3485 + 49.9 47DRL - 51.3 45AW - 179.9 47DAW + 33.4 45RL + 39.4 44RL (DRL, length of distal root in molars. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$) is a major mediator of immuno-inflammatory activity. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether TNF-${\alpha}$ productions of mouse macrophage RAW 264.7 and human hepatocyte HepG2 are modulated by Artemisiae argi Folium water extract (AW), Lactobacillus pentosus-fermented Artemisiae argi Folium water extract (AFL), and Saccharomyces cerevisiae-fermented Artemisiae argi Folium water extract (AFS) for 3 h of incubation. Effect of AW on cell viability of HepG2 was also investigated. TNF-${\alpha}$ productions were measured by Enzyme-Linked Immnunosorbent Assay method and cell viability was measured by MTT assay. Both AFL and AFS significantly increased TNF-${\alpha}$ productions of RAW 264.7 at the concentration of 50, 100, and 200 ${\mu}g$/mL (p<0.05). Also, AFL and AFS significantly increased TNF-${\alpha}$ productions of HepG2 at the concentration of 50, 100, and 200 ${\mu}g$/mL (p<0.05). AW significantly increased TNF-${\alpha}$ production of HepG2 at the concentration of 100 and 200 ${\mu}g$/mL (p<0.05). AW did not show any cytotoxicity on HepG2 cells for 3 h. These results suggest that AFL, AFS, and AW have the immune-enhancing property related with its increasing effect on TNF-${\alpha}$ production of macrophage and hepatocyte.
In this study, the reductive dechlorination of triclosan using zero-valent iron (ZVI, $Fe^0$) and modified zero-valent iron (i.e., acid-washed iron (Aw/Fe) and palladium-coated iron (Pd/Fe)) was experimentally investigated, and the reduction characteristics were evaluated by analyzing the reaction kinetics. Triclosan could be reductively decomposed using zero-valent iron. The degradation rates of triclosan were about 50% and 67% when $Fe^0$ and Aw/Fe were used as reductants, respectively, after 8 h of reaction. For the Pd/Fe system, the degradation rate was about 57% after 1 h of reaction. Thus, Pd/Fe exhibited remarkable performance in the reductive degradation of triclosan. Several dechlorinated intermediates were predicted by GC-MS spectrum, and 2-phenoxyphenol was detected as the by-product of the decomposition reaction of triclosan, indicating that reductive dechlorination occurred continuously. As the reaction proceeded, the pH of the solution increased steadily; the pH increase for the Pd/Fe system was smaller than that for the $Fe^0$ and Aw/Fe system. Further, zero-order, first-order, and second-order kinetic models were used to analyze the reaction kinetics. The first-order kinetic model was found to be the best with good correlation for the $Fe^0$ and Aw/Fe system. However, for the Pd/Fe system, the experimental data were evaluated to be well fitted to the second-order kinetic model. The reaction rate constants (k) were in the order of Pd/Fe > Aw/Fe > $Fe^0$, with the rate constant of Pd/Fe being much higher than that of the other two reductants.
