Porous alumina ceramics with addition of 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 were sintered at 1300, 1350, and 1400℃. The effects of the Al(H2PO4)3 addition on crystal phases, water absorption, open porosity, pore size distribution, microstructures, and flexural strength were studied extensively. The experimental results revealed that only characteristic peaks of corundum were indexed in the XRD patterns of the as-prepared porous ceramics. The water absorption and open porosity of the porous Al2O3 ceramics increased remarkably with an increase in Al(H2PO4)3 addition. The flexural strength first increased to a maximum value when 5 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 was added and then decreased as additional Al(H2PO4)3 was further added. SEM images showed that the average Al2O3 grain size in the porous ceramics changed in an opposite way as the flexural strength. The porous Al2O3 ceramics with 10 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 addition exhibited comparable flexural strength to the ceramics without Al(H2PO4)3 addition, although the latter had much higher porosity.

In this study, we aimed to assess the effect of flaking on the nutrient digestibility of corn grain in ruminants. In this regard, in vitro rumen fermentation, in situ rumen degradability, and in vivo metabolic experiments were performed. The automated gas production technique was used for the in vitro fermentation experiments. Six types of corn flakes with various degrees of gelatinization (32%, 41%, 48%, 66%, 86%, and 89%) were ground and incubated in rumen fluid to measure rumen fermentation characteristics and digestion rate. The in situ degradability of ground corn, whole corn, and corn flakes with 62% and 66% gelatinization was measured by incubation in the rumen of two cannulated Holstein cows. In vivo metabolic experiments were performed using 12 crossbred goats (29.8 ± 4.37 kg) using a 3 × 3 Latin square design. The dietary treatments consisted of ground corn and flaked corn with 48% or 62% gelatinization. In vitro experiments showed that as the degree of gelatinization increased, the digestion rate increased linearly, while the discrete lag time decreased linearly (p < 0.05). The effective rumen dry matter degradability, determined by in situ fermentation, was 37%p lower in corn flakes than ground corn, assuming a passage rate of 6%/h (p < 0.01), and there was no difference between the two flakes. In the in vivo experiment, there was no difference in dry matter intake, average daily gain, feed efficiency, and nitrogen utilization among the treatment groups (p > 0.05); however, the crude fat digestibility was lower for corn flakes than for ground corn (p < 0.05). To summarize, the rate of fermentation of corn flakes increased as the degree of gelatinization increased. However, non-ground corn flakes had lower rumen digestibility and did not improve in vivo apparent nutrient digestibility, compared with ground corn. In contrast to the assumption that flaked corn provides more energy to ruminant animals than ground corn, we conclude that the digestibility and energy value of corn flakes are lower than those of ground corn if mastication does not sufficiently reduce the particle size of corn flakes.

This study analyzed the changes in land-cover and sedimentary environment before and after flooding through drone images and sediment analysis for the Seomjin River Chimsil Wetland. The results showed that the area of some land-covers such as sand bar, grass, and trees were continuously changed. The acidity level of the sediments in the Seomjin River Chimsil Wetland was weakened gradually by flooding and EC was also decreased. The levels of organic matter, effective phosphoric acid, and CEC, however, were fluctuating depending on branches, which seems to be the result of landization as new sedimentary environment was developed and vegetation was settled after the flood. Average mean size of river sediments was found to be fine sand, and it exhibited various particle size characteristics from granule to medium silt depending on the location. As the sedimentary environment changed due to the effects of floods and typhoons, the particles were granulated or grain refined depending on the position. In the Seomjin River Chimsil Wetland, there were factors that could interfere with geomorphic development and sedimentary environment, contamination sources in and around the wetland, and natural threat factors. Therefore, in this study, a conservation and management plan was proposed to remove these threat factors and to preserve the scarcity, naturalness, and dynamics of Seomjin River Chimsil Wetland.

When $Al_2O_3-MoO_3$ mixture is reduced, $MoO_3$ is only reduced to Mo at $900^{\circ}C$. But a compound between $Al_2O_3$ and Mo is not formed up to $1300^{\circ}C$. In the case of $Al_2O_3-MoO_3-MnO_2$ mixture, an intermediate compound $Mn_2Mo_3O_8$ is firstly formed at $900^{\circ}C$ and changes to $MnAl_2O_4$ at $1100^{\circ}C{\sim}1300^{\circ}C$. $Al_2O_3/Mo/MnO_2$ composite are manufactured by a selective reduction process in which Mo is only reduced in the powder mixture of $Al_2O_3,\;MoO_3\;and\;MnO_2$ oxide. For $Al_2O_3/Mo$ composite, the average grain size was not changed with increasing Mo content because of inhibition of grain growth of $Al_2O_3$ matrix in the presence of Mo particles. Fracture strength increased with increasing Mo content due to phenomenon of grain growth inhibition of $Al_2O_3$ matrix. Hardness decreased because of a lower hardness value of Mo, whereas fracture toughness increased. For $Al_2O_3,\;Mo\;and\;MnO_2$ composite, grain growth was facilitated by MnOB and it showed a lower fracture strength because of grain growth effect with increasing Mo and $MnO_2$ content. Hardness decreased because of the grain growth of matrix and coalesced Mo particles to be located in grain boundary, whereas fracture toughness increased.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is a dielectric insulator with a two-dimensional (2D) layered structure. It is an appealing substrate dielectric for many applications due to its favorable properties, such as a wide band gap energy, chemical inertness and high thermal conductivity[1]. Furthermore, its remarkable mechanical strength renders few-layered hBN a flexible and transparent substrate, ideal for next-generation electronics and optoelectronics in applications. However, the difficulty of preparing high quality large-area hBN films has hindered their widespread use. Generally, large-area hBN layers prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) usually exhibit polycrystalline structures with a typical average grain size of several microns. It has been reported that grain boundaries or dislocations in hBN can degrade its electronic or mechanical properties. Accordingly, large-area single crystalline hBN layers are desired to fully realize the potential advantages of hBN in device applications. In this presentation, we report the growth and transfer of centimeter-sized, nearly single crystal hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) few-layer films using Ni(111) single crystal substrates. The hBN films were grown on Ni(111) substrates using atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD). The grown films were transferred to arbitrary substrates via an electrochemical delamination technique, and remaining Ni(111) substrates were repeatedly re-used. The crystallinity of the grown films from the atomic to centimeter scale was confirmed based on transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED). Careful study of the growth parameters was also carried out. Moreover, various characterizations confirmed that the grown films exhibited typical characteristics of hexagonal boron nitride layers over the entire area. Our results suggest that hBN can be widely used in various applications where large-area, high quality, and single crystalline 2D insulating layers are required.

We have applied mechanical alloying (MA) to produce soft magnetic composite material using a mixture of elemental $Fe_2O_3$-Mg powders. An optimal milling and heat treatment conditions to obtain soft magnetic ${\alpha}$-Fe/MgO composite with fine microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) measurement. It is found that ${\alpha}$-Fe/MgO composite powders in which MgO is dispersed in ${\alpha}$-Fe matrix are obtained by MA of $Fe_2O_3$ with Mg for 30 min. The saturation magnetization of ball-milled powders increases with increasing milling time and reaches to a maximum value of 69.5 emu/g after 5 h MA. The magnetic hardening due to the reduction of the ${\alpha}$-Fe grain size by MA was also observed. Densification of the MA powders was performed in a spark plasma sintering (SPS) machine at $800{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ under 60 MPa. X-ray diffraction result shows that the average grain size of ${\alpha}$-Fe in ${\alpha}$-Fe/MgO nanocomposite sintered at $800^{\circ}C$ is in the range of 110 nm.
Magnetic properties at low-temperatures can diagnose the presence of certain magnetic minerals in rocks. At the Verwey transition temperature ($T_v$, ~105~120 K), magnetite transforms from monoclinic to cubic structure as the temperature increases. At the isotropic point ($T_i$, ~135 K), magnetocrystalline anisotropic constant of magnetite passes through zero (from negative to positive) as the temperature decreases so that its optimal remanence acquisition axis changes from [111] to [001]. A sharp remanence drop was observed at $T_v$ during warming of LTSIRM (low-temperature saturation isothermal remanent magnetization). For cooling of RTSIRM (room-temperature saturation isothermal remanent magnetization), the remanence decreased on passing $T_i$ and $T_v$. On warming of RTSIRM, remanence recovery becomes more prominent as the average grain size of magnetite increases. In summary, the SIRM memory decreases with increasing grain size of magnetite. A similar, but rather gradual, remanence transition occurs for natural samples due to contribution of cations other than Fe. As a non-destructive tool, low-temperature magnetic behavior is sensitive to unravel the magnetic remanence carriers in terrestrial rocks or meteorites.
Using a recently developed Hybric Plasma-Particle Accelerating Impact Deposition (HP-PAID) process, synthesis of nanostructured silicon coatings has been investigated by injecting vapor-phase TEOS (tetraethosysilane, (C$_2$H$\_$5/O)$_4$Si) into an Ar hybrid plasma. The plasma jet with reactants was expanded through nozzle into a deposition chamber, with the pressure dropping from 700 to 10 torr. Ultrafine particles accelerated in the free jet downstream of the nozzle, deposited by an inertial impaction onto a temperature controlled substrate. By using this process, nanostructured amorphous silicon coatings with grain size smaller than 10 nm could be synthesized. These samples were annealed in an Ar and crystallized at 900$^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. TEM analysis showed that the annealed coatings were also composed of nanoparticles smaller than 10 nm, which showed a good consistency that the average grain size of 7 nm was also estimated from a peak shift of 2.39 cm$\^$-1/ and Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) 5.92 cm$\^$-1/ of Raman analysis. The noteworthy is that a strong PL peak at 398 nm was also obtained for this sample, which indicates that the deposited coatings also contained 3∼4 nm nanostructured grains.
Seasonal and spatial variations of tidal flat sediments were studied in Yeoja Bay. Results of the yearly observation of tidal flat transect lines indicated that the monthly change of grain size composition was not distinct from each tidal flat transect line, but it was quite clear that clay covered $40\~70\%$ of the sediment composition. Clay composed most highest in the northern part of the bay, and lowest in the western. As clay content increased, water and organic matter showed a tendency of increase, while the mean grain size was fixed per clay amount. Shear strength came out as 0 kPa as a whole. Seasonal variations of clay contents in each tidal flat were higher in winter and spring, but lower in summer and autumn. Thefine sediments were likely to be accumulated in the winter and spring. The average accumulation rate of each tidal flat was $-14.62\~38.57mm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$. The numbers showed $32.13mm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$ in the northern, $-14.62mm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$in the western, and $6.46mm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$ in the eastern part. During the coarse of this study sediment accumulation rates indicated that the sediments deposited continuously in the northern part of tidal flat, whereas erosion occurred in the western part. However, there was no distinct change in the eastern part. It was due to the clockwise lateral circulation in Yeoja Bay. Seasonally, sedimentation happened during the dry season (winter and spring) and erosion during the wet season (summer and autumn).
In order to understand the sedimentary environment of the southern intertidal zone of Shihwa Lake, west coast of Gyeonggi-do, 10 surface and 2 core sediment samples were analysed for grain size, water content, AVS (Acid Volatile Sulfide), TOC (Total Organic Carbon), concentrations of metals (Al, Fe, Mn, Cu, As, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cd, and Cr). The surface sediments are generally poorly sorted (0.60~2.31 ${\phi}$) sandy Silt, slightly gravelly muddy Sand, silty Sand, Sand with mean grain size of 2.95 to 6.00 ${\phi}$. The sediments contain Al (1.54%), Fe (1.75%), Cu (9.1ppm), As (1.1ppm), Pb (18.8 ppm), Ni (11.0 ppm), Cd (0.02 ppm), and Cr (30.1 ppm) on the average. Heavy metals are concentrated less than ERL (Effect Range-Low), verified by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). In the core sediments, they are also less than the ERL. Based on the uniform vertical distribution of excess radioactivity of $^{210}Pb$, the core sediments seen to have been actively mixed biologically or rapidly deposited after the construction of Shi-Hwa Seawall. The 'enrichment factor' of metals, normalized to Al, shows that the upper sediments of 35 cm in depth are more polluted. infect was significant in 2 core sediment samples in 35 cm below layer.
