An Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Moxa Combustion (II) - On the Density of Moxa Material - (애구(艾灸)의 연소(燃燒) 특성(特性)에 관한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究)(II) - 애주(艾炷)의 밀도(密度)를 중심(中心)으로 -)

  • It is thought that the quantity and quality of the heat stimulation and the mechanism of heating process are important to understand the moxa-combustion. In order to get the basic data on the effective moxa-combustion method, combustion temperature changes (average temperature, peak temperature, average gradient temperature and maximum gradient temperature) of the heating period were measured respectively by the density of moxa material. For the experiment, samples of $300mg/0.26cm^3$ , $400mg/0.26cm^3$ and $500mg/0.26cm^3$ of moxa material were molded in a conical mold with each 10mm in diameter and height. 1. The average temperature and peak temperature of heating period on the moxa-combustion showed higher in the $400mg/0.26cm^3$ and $300mg/0.26cm^3$ than in the $500mg/0.26cm^3$ sample respectively. 2. The average gradient temperature of heating period on the moxa-combustion rose quickly in the $300mg/0.26cm^3$, $400mg/0.26cm^3$ and $500mg/0.26cm^3$ in that order and the maximum gradient temperature rose more quickly in the $300mg/0.26cm^3$ and $400mg/0.26cm^3$ than in the $500mg/0.26cm^3$ sample respectively. According to the above results, it is concluded that the density of moxa material is (the) more important (factor) than the weight or volume of moxa material on the combustion temperature changes of the heating period for the evaluation of the quality and quantity of moxa-combustion.

Variation Characteristics of Hydraulic Gradient and Major Flow Direction in the Landfill Soils (매립지 토양층의 수리경사와 주 흐름 방향의 변동특성)

  • Hydraulic gradient of the landfill soils is estimated by Devlin (2003) method, and its variation characteristics from rainfall and permeability of the aquifer material are analyzed. The study site of 18 m $\times$ 12 m is located in front of the Environment Research Center at the Pukyong National University, and core logging, slug/bail test and groundwater monitoring was performed. The sluglbail tests were performed in 9 wells (except BH9 well), and drawdown data with elapsed time for bail tests were analyzed using Bouwer-Rice and Hvorslev methods. The average hydraulic conductivity estimated in each of the test wells was ranged $1.991{\times}10^{-7}{\sim}4.714{\times}10^{-6}m/sec$, and the average hydraulic conductivity in the study site was estimated $2.376{\times}10^{-6}m/sec$ for arithmetic average, $1.655{\times}10^{-6}m/sec$ for geometric average and $9.366{\times}10^{-7}m/sec$ for harmonic average. The permeability of landfill soils was higher at the east side of the study site than at the west side. Groundwater level in 10 wells was monitored 44 times from October 2 to November 7, 2007. The groundwater level was ranged 1.187$\sim$1.610 m, and the average groundwater level range in each of the well showed 1.256$\sim$1.407 m. The groundwater level was higher at the east side than at the west side of the study site, and this distribution is identify to it of hydraulic conductivity. The hydraulie gradient and the major flow direction for 10 wells were estimated 0.0072$\sim$0.0093 and $81.7618{\sim}88.0836^{\circ}$, respectively. Also, the hydraulic gradient and the major flow direction for 9 wells were estimated 0.0102$\sim$0.0124 and $84.6822{\sim}89.1174^{\circ}$, respectively. The hydraulic gradient of the study site increased from rainfall (83.5 mm) on October 7, causing by that the groundwater level of the site with high permeability was higher. The hydraulic gradient estimated on and after October 16 was stable, due to almost no rainfall. Thus, it was confirmed that the variation of the hydraulic gradient in the landfill soils was controlled by the rainfall.

Assessment of Physical Habitats Characteristics in Naeseongcheon Basin Streams, Korea (내성천 유역 하천의 물리 서식지 특성 평가)

  • This study applied the stream physical habitat assessment system to obtain basic information for river restoration and watershed management in high-gradient and mid-gradient streams in the Naeseongcheon basin. The total length of high-gradient and mid-gradient streams in the Naeseongcheon basin is about 273 km, and as a result of the assessment, it was analyzed that suboptimal reach was about 8.2 km, normal reach was 180.3 km, and marginal reach was 84.7 km. In addition, the physical habitat quality of high-gradient streams was analyzed to be normal condition with an average of 106 points (53%), and in particular, the score of channel/hydraulic category, which is the most important for the habitat of aquatic animals, was analyzed to be normal, close to the limit, with an average of 54 points (45%). The physical habitat quality of mid-gradient streams was found to be in normal condition with an average of 90 points (45%), and the score of channel/hydraulic category was in marginal condition with an average of 39 points (32%). Overall, among 165 reaches of high-gradient and mid-gradient streams in the Naeseongcheon basin, 4 reaches (3%) were evaluated as suboptimal, 119 reaches (72%) were normal, and 42 reaches (25%) were considered marginal. These results showed that the physical habitat of Naeseongcheon was significantly disturbed. Disturbance of stream physical habitat in the Naeseongcheon basin occured due to farmland around stream, urbanization, reservoir construction, and river maintenance.

  • In this paper, we propose a new incremental gradient method for solving a regularized minimization problem whose objective is the sum of m smooth functions and a (possibly nonsmooth) convex function. This method uses an adaptive stepsize. Recently proposed incremental gradient methods for a regularized minimization problem need O(mn) storage, where n is the number of variables. This is the drawback of them. But, the proposed new incremental gradient method requires only O(n) storage.

  • Average moisture content of 30mm-thick Korean red pine(Pinus densiflora) was estimated nondestructively and continuously using surface temperature rise by radiation heating and moisture gradient profile in wood. The surface temperature rises increased as surface moisture contents decreased and good relationships were found between surface moisture contents and surface temperature rises at three different feed speeds of 10, 20 and 30 m/min. Average moisture content could be described as a function of surface moisture content and wood thickness.

Analysis of the Changes in Metabolic Diversity of Microbial Community in pH-gradient Microcosm

  • The Biolog redox technology was carried out for evaluation of acidification effect on microbial communities at each stage of pH gradient microcosm. While the number of heterotrophic bacterial population and activities of extracellular enzyme decreased as the pH decreased, the number of total bacteria in the microcosm was not affected. The average color development of sample at each pH-gradient showed a sigmoidal curve, and at higher pH, more overall color development appeared in Biolog plates. Average color development value in Biolog plates was stabilized at 50 hours as an optimum incubation time. The color production in the Biolog plates was caused by cell density at above pH 5.0, but by cell activity below pH 4.0. Principal component analysis of color responses revealed distinctive patterns among the pH-gradient microcosm samples.

  • In order to obtain the clinical data on the different effects of the three different methods of indirect moxibustion, moxa-combustion time, peak temperature, average temperature, maximum gradient temperature, average gradient temperature, and moxa-combustion calorie rate of the input period in ARIRANG, JANG, PUNG were measured through this experiment. The results of the experiment were as follows : 1. In the combustion time, during the input period ARIRANG had the longest combustion time followed by PUNG, JANG in a descending order but these were not acknowledged to have significant difference each other. 2. In the peak temperature of the input period, PUNG had the highest temperature followed by ARIRANG, JANG in a descending order. ARIRANG and JANG were acknowledged to have significant difference with PUNG. ARIRANG and JANG however were not acknowledged to have difference each other. 3. In the average temperature, during the input period, PUNG had the highest temperature followed by JANG, ARIRANG in a descending order. ARIRANG and JANG were acknowledged to have significant difference with PUNG. ARIRANG and JANG however were not acknowledged to have difference each other. 4. In the maximum gradient temperature, during the input period, PUNG had the highest temperature followed by ARIRANG, JANG in a descending order. ARIRANG and JANG were acknowledged to have significant difference with PUNG. ARIRANG and JANG however were not acknowledged to have difference each other. 5. In the average gradient temperature, during the input period, PUNG had the highest temperature followed by ARIRANG, JANG in a descending order. 3-Dimensional Analysis for Film Cooling adjacent Injection Hole (분사구 인접영역에서의 막냉각에 관한 3차원 해석)

  • The present paper describes numerical predictions for the film cooling effectiveness from a row of hole at various injection ratios and injection alngles.Numerical calculations were performed to investigate film cooling effectiveness and the characteristics of flow and temperature distributions in the region near the downstream of injection hole including the region of adverse pressure gradient. The elliptic 3-dimensional governing equations with variable thermal properties were solved by SIMPLE algorithm. The results showed that the presence of adverse pressure gradient in the region near the downstream of injection hole induces large temperature gradient. At injection angle of $35^{\circ}$ the average film cooling effectiveness was increased as increased of injection ratio up to 1.0. At injection angle of $90^{\circ}$ however, the average film cooling effectiveness was decreased from injection ratio larger than 0.4.

Optimizations of Multi-hop Cooperative Molecular Communication in Cylindrical Anomalous-Diffusive Channel

  • In this paper, the optimizations of multi-hop cooperative molecular communication (CMC) system in cylindrical anomalous-diffusive channel in three-dimensional enviroment are investigated. First, we derive the performance of bit error probability (BEP) of CMC system under decode-and-forward relay strategy. Then for achieving minimum average BEP, the optimization variables are detection thresholds at cooperative nodes and destination node, and the corresponding optimization problem is formulated. Furthermore, we use conjugate gradient (CG) algorithm to solve this optimization problem to search optimal detection thresholds. The numerical results show the optimal detection thresholds can be obtained by CG algorithm, which has good convergence behaviors with fewer iterations to achieve minimized average BEP compared with gradient decent algorithm and Bisection method which are used in molecular communication.
