  • This paper presents design procedures of a transverse flux linear motor (TFLM). The minimum and maximum flux linkage was determined by the simplified equivalent magnetic circuit and estimated average magnetic flux density at the air gap region by considering the shape of applied magnetomotive force (MMF). With this information, the number of turns of each phase winding was calculated based on the amplitude of applied voltage and speed of a mover. The rated current, coil diameter, and winding area were obtained with the aid of an empirical formula for determining the required MMF. The usefulness of the proposed design method for TFLM is verified by the three-dimensional equivalent magnetic circuit network (EMCN) method and the experimental results of prototyped machine.

  • In railways powered by AC power, the main circuit breaker (MCB) is used for supplying the electric power to the catenary of the vehicle. Generally, the main circuit breaker is located between the pantograph and the main transformer, and the phase of the power applied to the vehicle changes according to the operation timing of the main circuit breaker. The operation of the main circuit breaker should be actively controlled according to the phase of the power source, since the phase of the power causes unintended transient states in the vehicle's electrical system in the form of an inrush current and surge voltage. However, the MCB has a delay time when it operates which is not constant. Therefore, an intelligent controller is needed to predict the operation delay time and control the opening and closing of the MCB.

  • To realize the voice privacy between CDMA mobile phone and PSTN terminal, the voice frames shall be transmitted transparently between the heterogeneous networks. For satisfying this requirement, we propose the method which transmits voice frames using the CDMA circuit data channel in real time. In this paper we analyze the causes of voice delay which occurs during voice transmission using circuit data channel. And in order to overcome this kind of delay, the technique controlling the TCP control flag and the variable audio block construction algorithm according to the vocoder output rate are proposed. As a result of experimenting by applying the proposed method, we confirmed that the transit delay was improved with about average 70%.

  • In this paper, we proposed the autonomous algorithm of pseudo-exhaustive testing for the multi-level combinational logic circuits. For the processing of shared-circuit that existed in each cone-circuit when it backtracked the path from PO to PI of CUT at the conventional verification testing, the dependent relation of PI-P0 is presented by a dependence matrix so it easily partitioned the sub-circuits for the pseudo-exhaustive testing. The test pattern of sub-circuit's C-inputs is generated using a binary counter and the test pattern of I-inputs is synthesized using a singular cover and consistency operation. Thus, according to the test patterns presented with the recipe cube, the number of test pattrens are reduced and it is possible to test concurrently each other subcircuits. The proposed algorithm treated CUT's net-list to the source file and was batch processed from the sub-circuit partitioning to the test pattern generation. It is shown that the range of reduced ration of generated pseudo-exhaustive test pattern exhibits from 85.4% to 95.8% when the average PI-dependency of ISACS bench mark circuits is 69.4%.

  • The conventional Residual Current Protective Devices(RCD, or earth leakage circuit breaker, ELB) operates depending on the total leakage current which is the vector-sum of resistive and capacitive components of a leakage current. However, the electric disaster such as electric shock or fire is mainly caused by the resistive component. Therefore, in this view point, the RCD is more realistic when it operates by the resistive component of the leakage current. In this paper, a new algorithm for measuring the resistive leakage current from the total leakage current is suggested, and is realized to an actual circuit. According to the suggested algorithm, the resistive component of the leakage current can be found by integrating the total leakage current over only a half cycle of the line voltage, and it is realized by using analog switches and resettable integrators. It is confirmed through experiments that the suggested algorithm detects, within maximum average error of 6.74%, the resistive leakage current from the total leakage current, and the RCD employing the suggested algorithm brakes the circuit within the regular interrupt time(30msec).

  • A fixed off-time controlled high power factor ac-dc LED driver is proposed in this paper, which employs a novel zero-crossing-compensation (ZCC) circuit based on a fixed off-time controlled scheme. Due to the parasitic parameters of the system, the practical waveforms have a dead region. By detecting the zero-crossing boundary, the proposed ZCC circuit compensates the control signal VCOMP within the dead region, and is invalid above this region. With further optimization of the parameters KR and Kτ of the ZCC circuit, the dead zone can be eliminated and lower THD is achieved. Finally, the chip is implemented in HHNEC 0.5μm 5V/40V HVCMOS process, and a prototype circuit, delivering 7~12W of power to several 3-W LED loads, is tested under AC input voltage ranging from 85V to 265V. The test results indicate that the average total harmonic distortion (THD) of the entire system is approximately 10%, with a minimum of 5.5%, and that the power factor is above 0.955, with a maximum of 0.999.

  • Optical switching will be applied in datacenter networks because electronic switching is costly and power-consuming. In this paper, considering the ring-based interconnection using optical switching in the core of a datacenter, we study the home circuit (HC) construction for the labeled optical burst switching with home circuit (LOBS-HC), a new paradigm trying to share wavelengths among the HCs from the same source. In particular, aiming to construct HCs dynamically and properly, a scheme named optimal path matching and symmetric HC matching (OPM-SHM) is proposed. The main idea of OPM-SHM is to dynamically construct HCs by sharing wavelength(s) not only among the same-source HCs but also with symmetric HCs which have different sources other than the original LOBS-HC features. The simulation results demonstrate that OPM-SHM achieves better performance than some other methods in terms of burst loss rate and wavelength utilization of physical links. More specially, it maintains good load balancing for the datacenter network using an LOBS-HC ring. In addition, due to the symmetric feature of SHM, the proposed scheme can decrease the upper bound of the average hop count of the routing paths to half of the ring size.

  • This paper proposes an efficient kernel-based partitioning algorithm for reducing area and power dissipation in combinational circuit design.. The proposed algorithm decreases the power consumption by partitioning a given circuit utilizing a kernel, and reduces the area overhead by minimizing duplicated gates in the partitioned subcircuits. Experimental results for the MCNC benchmarks show that the proposed algorithm is effective by generating circuits consuming 43.6% less power with 30.7% less area on the average, when compared to the previous algorithm based on precomputation circuit structure.

  • LED is a promising new generation of green lighting with the advantages of high efficiency, good optical performance, long lifetime and environmental friendliness. A pulsating current can be used to drive LEDs. However, current with a high peak-to-average ratio is unfavorable for LEDs. A novel control scheme for the ac-dc critical conduction mode (CRM) flyback LED driver is proposed in this paper. By using the input voltage, output voltage and average output current to control the turn-on time of the switch, the peak-to-average ratio of the output current can be reduced. The operation principle is analyzed and an implementation circuit is put forward. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
