Traffic simulation models have been used for assessing various transportation strategies. Through comparing results from a simulation model and real field data, researchers try to show how close the model can reproduce the real world traffic. This model verification step is one of the most essential tasks in modeling procedure. Traffic counts and speeds have been frequently used for the verification or validation. Authors modeled severe PM peak bottleneck situation on the I-40 corridor in Raleigh, North Carolina using DYNASMART-P, a mesoscopic traffic simulation tool and verified the model. NCDOT has Traffic Information Management System which has archive capability for the traffic speeds on the I-40 corridor. However, the authors selected travel time as the field measure for model verification and collected the data using a GPS equipment because the speed data from NCDOT speed detectors are spot speeds which are not appropriate for comparison with link average speed from the simulation model. This paper describes the GPS field data collection procedure, the model verification method, and the results.

In this paper, we watch out key measure of the level of transportation service about travel time and delay time. And we measured vehicle traffic by moving vehicle method using CCTV which is one of the travel time measure. We should be measured in place of continuous traffic flow characteristics with wide traffic light interval. In addition, traffic flow on the other side of the interval must be sufficiently identifiable and at the end of this section must be possible U-turn. This method it requires only the driver of the vehicle because of the CCTV measure. In addition, We cannot require time, distance, and traffic equipment that can be recorded. Because equipped with the software to do that. In addition to traffic, average travel time, average space speed, traffic density are also available.
This study aims to develop a framework to estimate mobile source emissions with the macroscopic travel demand model including enhanced estimates of intra-zonal travel emissions using Space Syntax analysis. It is acknowledged that "the land-use and transportation interaction model explains the influence of urban structure on accessibility and mobility pattern". Based upon this theory, the estimation model of intra-zonal travel emissions is presented with the models of total travel distance, total travel demand, and average travel speed of intra-zonal trips. Thess statistical models include several spatial indices derived from the Space Syntax analysis. It explains that urban spatial structure is a critical factor for intra-zonal travel emissions, which is lower in compact zone with smaller portion of land area, lower sprawl indicator, and more grid-type of road network. Also the suggested framework is applied in the evaluation of the effectiveness of bicycle lane project in Suwon, Korea. The estimated emissions including intra-zonal travel is as double as the results only with inter-zonal demands, which shows better performance of the suggested framework for more realistic outcomes. This framework is applicable to the estimation of mobile source emissions in nation-wide and the assessment of transportation-environment policies in regional level.
PURPOSES : Traffic situation of Seoul City is different each administrative district. because each administrative district population, average travel speed, etc are different. thus, regionally differentiated policy is necessary. METHODS : In this study, first, it is to implement the cluster analysis using the traffic factor of twenty-five administrative districts in Seoul, categorize it into the cluster and understand the properties. second, related factors of speed were derived. and method to increase the speed was investigated. we choose the eleven traffic factors such as the number of traffic accident cases, total length, speed, the number of cross section, the number of cross section per km, the rate of roads, registered cars, population attending office and school, population density, area. RESULTS : In the results, first, we could categorize the Seoul-City administrative district into three clusters. in order to find Factors associated with speed a simple regression analysis was performed. and the number of intersections per km is closely related to the speed. CONCLUSIONS : Through this study, transportation policies reflecting local traffic-related characteristics are required.
With the hubbing strategy, construction of "Incheon Airport Railroad(AREX)" was proceeded to expand the accessibility at the level of airports in rivalry like Kansai and Chek Lap Kok. At the present 1st phase which routes from Incheon Airport to Kimpo Airport is opened March 2007. 2nd phase which is planned from Kimpo Airport to Seoul station will be opened at the end of October 2010. But the accessibilty to AREX is delinquent because it is connected only in Seoul station and the maximum operation speed is 110km/h which downgrade the time competitiveness with airport limousine. In addition, transfering of user is necessary to access to AREX from Kyungbu KTX. With these reasons, travel demand in 1st phase section is low(7%). According to reestimation of travel demand, demand analysis result compared with convention condition is insufficient, so required annual average government grant-in-aid amounts to 200 billions won, and it is right time to develop the method for revitalization of Incheon airport railroad. In this paper, facilities plan and operating plan to make new travel demand by speed-up which is able through substitution train now running with high speed train(EMU, 180km/h) and direct connection of KTX, will be suggested. This will contribute to offering high speed railroad service to customers and the reduction of government grant-in-aid by way of demand expansion.
This study deals with the quality and the optimum range of laser cutting process. Cold rolled steel sheets for automobile application were cut by a high power CO$_{2}$ laser system with beam quality of TEM$_{\infty}$ mode. Both process parameters such as travel speed and assist gas pressure, and quality factors were considered to optimize the laser cutting. It was revealed that the thinner the sheet thickness, the less effect of oxidation energy for contributing the cutting process. High speed photographs demonstrated that molten spot on the cut surface moved in a random and vigorous manner according to its viscosity and the flowing direction of assist gas, which resulted in so called striation. Laser cutting produced a very smooth surface of average roughness(Ra) about less than 1.5.mu.m at the optimum range. It was also shown that the characteristics of dross formation was influenced by the flowing durection of assist gas and the fluidity of molten metal drop..

This paper aims at developing an active expressway entrance control effectiveness analysis tool which operators can utilize and manage traffic based on current traffic condition. For this, after identifying the current problems of tollgate-based entrance policy being used, a new set of decision element such as congestion index, decision criteria for congestion, and congestion management unit has been proposed together with the procedure of newly developed tollgate control policy. Three key parts developed are traffic condition identification module, tollgate metering module, and travel speed calculation module. Some measures of effectiveness were also identified and the newly developed effectiveness analysis tool produced better result. According to classification of traffic condition by reference speed as 80km/h, the improved tollgate entrance procedure increased 21.5% in average travel speed compared with Do-Nothing case and also increased 8.8% compared with current entrance control method.

In Korea, interest in truck platooning is increasing because most cargo transportation is done by road. Truck platooning is the operation of two or more trucks in a row to form one platoon, which can increase road capacity and improve fuel efficiency. In this study, to analyze the effect of truck platooning on traffic flow, scenarios were created according to traffic conditions and truck platooning operating conditions. In order to understand the effect of the truck platooning operating conditions, correlation analysis was conducted with the average travel speed, the number of lane change disturbance, and the number of disturbance in the entry/exit section. As a result, the number of trucks in the platoon, the spacing of trucks in the platoon, and the spacing between platoons were found to have an effect on the average speed and the number of lane change disturbance In addition, the truck platooning ratio was found to have a strong correlation with the average travel speed and the number of lane change disturbance regardless of the LOS.
The section speed enforcement system measures the starting instantaneous speed, the The section speed enforcement system measures the starting instantaneous speed, the ending instantaneous speed, and the section average speed, and imposes fines only for the portion that has been speeding the most. However, according to the Road Traffic Act, most of the systems are installed on highways, so existing research has been conducted on highway sections. In this study, it is expected that the installation of section speed enforcement systems on general national roads will be expanded according to the revision of related laws. ITS collection and operation data targeting the section speed enforcement system installed on National Road 3 Seongnam Icheon-ro was used to analyze traffic speed, standard deviation of traffic speed, and reduction in traffic accidents by dividing it into before installation, trial operation period, and after crackdown. As a result of the analysis, the traffic speed, standard deviation, and traffic accidents decreased by 13%, 25%, and 70%, respectively, after installation, confirming that the installation of the section speed enforcement system greatly contributed to the reduction of accidents.
Xu-Jing(徐競) an official of the Song(宋), a medieval Kingdom of China, wrote a book titled $\ll$Koryo Tu Jing(高麗圖經)$\gg$ which explains his travel to the Koryo as a member of diplomatic mission in 1123. $\ll$Koryo Tu Jing$\gg$ is the record of his personal experience in Koryo with many explanatory illustrations and especially contains 5 months' voyage record of his diplomatic fleet. His fleet set sail at a port located in the Ding Hai Xian(定海縣), Ming Zhou(明州) via a few islands of Koryo [Hyup Kye San(俠界山) , the Kun San Do(群山島) , the Ja Yon Do(紫燕島) , the Keup Su Mun(急水門) in Kang Hwa Gun(江華郡) and the Hap Gul(蛤窟) ] and finally arrived the Port Ye Song Hang(禮成港) . According to the Xu-Jing's record his fleet sailed the sea with the help of the favorable seaward winds and tides as the usual way of ancient sailing. The Xu- Jing's Fleet sailed the sea between the Mei Cen(梅岑), Ming Zhou(明州) of China and the Hyup Kye San(俠界山) of Koryo from about 5:00 a.m., May 24th(of the lunar calendar) to about 5:00 p.m., June 2nd. At this section, the average speed of the seaward winds was 19.45km/h and the average speed of the fleet which sailed only by the power of the winds was 6.29km/h. This means that 32.3% of the favorable seaward winds' speed was equal to the speed of the ancient fleet which sailed only by the power of the favorable seaward winds. The fleet sailed the sea between the Ja Yon Do(紫燕島) and the Keup Su Mun(急水門) from about 9:00 a.m., June 10th to about 1:00 p.m., the same day. At this section the fleet sailed by the power of tides in addition to the favorable seaward winds without oaring. The average speed of the winds was not different from that of former section and the average speed of the tides was 1.937km/h. And at this section the average speed of the fleet increased by 0.41km/h than that of the former section. This means that 21.1% of the speed of the tides was equal to the increased speed of the ancient fleet by virtue of the tides. The fleet sailed the sea between Keup Su Mun(急水門) and the Hap Gul(蛤窟) from about 1:00 p.m., June 10th to about 3:00 p.m., the same day. At this section, there were no seaward winds and the fleet sailed only by the powers of tides and oaring. And at this section, the tide increased the average speed of the fleet by 0.3114km/h and the fleet could sail at the speed of 4.3km/h. So we can conclude that the average speed of ancient fleet without any influences of the seaward winds and tides was 3.98 km/h. We can make use of the various sailing speeds of ancient fleets when judging their maritime activities. If we make use of the various sailing speeds of the ancient fleets as calculated in this article, we will be able to get various important informations about the certain ancient fleet's maritime maneuver. For example, we can infer the sailing routs of a certain fleet and the time when the fleet passed a certain spot by making use of the various sailing speeds of the ancient fleet. In this article I did not take account of the shapes of ships that consist of the ancient fleets and the sizes of the various ships and fleets. It was because that such factors would not change the foresaid conclusions seriously.
