In order to give a silk-like touch to PET fabrics, the PET fabrics were treated with NaOH alkaline solution in various conditions. In alkaline treatment, the liquor flow type pilot weight reduction apparatus with magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducer was used for the study. The effects of ultrasonic application, treatment time and temperature at NaOH 4% and 6"A solution on the decomposition rate of PET fabrics. From the results of the decomposition rate of PET fabrics, the qualitative and quantitative analysis of oligomer after decomposition of PET fabrics carried out by the HPLC. On the other hand, the surface pore characteristics of decomposition PET fabrics measured by porosimetery. The pore characteristics on the surface of treated PET fiber depended on the decomposition rate and did not depend on the ultrasonic cavitation. The pore diameter of alkaline untreated PET fiber were 15A and those of treated PET fibers were 5~6$\AA$ at the maximum pore volume. The average pore sizes of fiber before and after treatment were 141 h and 160h, respectively. Total amount of oligomer of the untreated PET fibers were 1.70wt% and 67.7% of total oligomer occupied with PET cyclic trimer and PET cyclic tetramer. Total amount of oligomer of fiber with 26.9% and 48.0% of weight loss without ultrasonic application were 1.78wt% and 1.79wt%, respectively. Also total amount oligomer of fibers which were reduced 27.7% and 48.2% of weight loss with ultrasonic application were 1.74wt%. This result showed that the removal rate of oligomer in the process of alkaline hydrolysis with ultrasonic higher than that of without ultrasonic application.tion.
The structural and optical features of Porous Silicon(PS) were investigated; the porous silicon was prepared by electrochemical etching of silicon wafers in HF solution. The morphologies and Photoluminescece(PL) features of the PS were investigated in terms of etching time, current density and aging conditions. The average pore diameter and pore depth were determined by current density and etching time, respectively. As-prepared PS exhibited the maximum PL peak at the wavelength of ∼ 450 nm. The degree of deviation from as-prepared PS during aging treatment seemed to depend on the microstructure as well as morphology of the PS. It is found that etching current density played an important role on the microstructural features of the PS.
To convert sewage sludge to energy, drying-gasification characteristics during microwave heating were studied. During the gasification of carbon dioxide, the main products were gas, followed by char, and tar in terms of the amount. The main components of the producer gas were carbon monoxide and hydrogen including a small amount of methane and light hydrocarbons. They showed a sufficient heating value as a fuel. The generated tar is gravimetric tar, which is total tar. As light tars, benzene (light aromatic tar) was a major light tar. Naphthalene, anthracene, and pyrene (light polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon tars) were also generated, but in relatively small amounts. Ammonia and hydrogen cyanide (precursor for NOx) were generated from thermal decomposition of tar containing protein and nitrogen in sewage sludge. In the case of sludge char, its average pore diameter was small, but specific area, pore volume, and adsorption amounts were relatively large, resulting in superior adsorption characteristics.
Distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) porous silicon (PSi) was generated by an electrochemical etching a bragg structure into a silicon wafer through electrode current in aqueous ethanolic HF solution. DBR PSi exhibiting unique reflectivity was successfully obtained by an electrochemical etching of silicon wafer using square current waveform. The multilayered photonic crystals of DBR PSi exhibited the reflection of a specific wavelength with high reflectivity in the optical reflectivity spectrum. In this work, we have developed a method to create refractive index in Si substrate through intensity of an electric current. The electrochemical process allows for precise control of the structural properties of DBR PSi such as thickness of the porous layer, porosity, and average pore diameter. The number of reflection peak of DBR PSi and its pore size increased as the intensity of electric current increased. This might be a demonstration for the fabrication of specific reflectors or filters.
Porous low reflective coating films of SiO2.ZrO2 system were prepared from the mixed alkoxide solutions of Zr(O-nC3H7)4 and partially prehydrolyzed TEOS by the sol-gel method using the dip-coating technique. In the case of 90SiO2.10ZrO2 porous coating films with HCl and H2O content was 0.3 mole and 4 mole, 378 m2/g of the specific surface area, 0.254 cm3/g of total pore volume, 30-50$\AA$ of average pore diameter. The transmittance of 90SiO2.10ZrO2 porous coated films was 95.38% at the wavelength of 550 nm, compared with the parent glass, the transmittance was increased with 4.38%.

It was studied to utilize wasted food as a starting material to produce for activated carbon. The wasted food was chemically activated with zinc chloride. Experiments were carried out at different chemical ratios(activating agent/wasted foods), activation temperatures, and activation time. The activated products were characterized by measuring the iodine and methylene blue number, the BET surface area, the pore volume, the micropore ratio, the pore diameter, the yields and the scanning electron microscope(SEM). For the products activated by impregnation ratio of 1.0 of ZnCl$_2$ at 500$^{\circ}C$ for 60 min in a rotary kiln reactor had iodine number of 480 mg/g, methylene blue number of 95 mL/g, BET surface area of 410 m$^2$/g, pore volume of 0.248 cm$^3$/g, and average pore diameter of 2.43 nm, respectively. The activated carbon obtained had the contribution of micropore area of 70.7% to the total pore area and micropore volume of 53.2% to the total pore volume.

Water glass is much cheaper than silicon alkoxide, so it has advantage for commercialization. A condensation by acid catalyst makes considerable effect about the properties of water glass based silica aerogel among many factors in silica aerogel process. The pore structural properties of water glass based silica aerogel such as specific surface area and pore size distribution have been investigated through the changes in the amount and the kinds of acid catalyst. It has been confirmed that water glass based silica aerogel is affected by various conditions of catalyst in the condensation reaction such as the kind, concentration, and the amount of mole of acid catalyst on the properties of final products. Especially, it is checked that the effect of mole of acid is more prominent than that of concentration. In the case for conventional method with introducing 4M HCl in condensation step, the silica aerogel could be synthesized which has $394m^2/g$ of specific surface area, 2.20 cc/g of pore volume, 22.3 nm of average pore size, and 92.53% of porosity. On the other hand, when 4M sulfuric acid was used with 73 mmol at the condensation step of water glass based silica aerogel, the pore structural characteristics of water based silica aerogel showed better properties than the case of using HCl, for example, specific surface area was measured as $516m^2/g$, and pore volume, average pore diameter, and porosity were obtained as 3.10 cc/g, 24.1 nm, and 96.1%, respectively.

In this study, we fabricated an electrolyte-insulator-metal (EIM) device incorporating a high-k Al2O3 sensing membrane using a porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) through a two-step anodizing process for pH detection. The structural properties were observed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD). Electrochemical measurements taken consisted of capacitance-voltage (C-V), hysteresis voltage and drift rates. The average pore diameter and depth of the AAO membrane with a pore-widening time of 20 min were 123nm and 273.5nm, respectively. At a pore-widening time of 20 min, the EIM device using anodic aluminum oxide exhibited a high sensitivity (56mV/pH), hysteresis voltage (6.2mV) and drift rate (0.25mV/pH).
Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the release behavior of bioactive materials as a BMP-2 embedding on the porous titanium implant. Methods: Porous Ti implant samples were fabricated by sintering of spherical Ti powders in a high vacuum furnace. Specimens diameter and height were 4mm and 10mm. The Li-air battery is a promising candidate for the most energy-dense electrochemical power source because it has 5 to 10 times greater energy storage capacity than that of Li-ion batteries. However, the Li-air cell performance falls short of the theoretical estimate, primarily because the discharge terminates well before the pore volume of the air electrode is completely filled with lithium oxides. Therefore, the structure of carbon used in the air electrode is a critical factor that affects the performance of Li-air batteries. In a previous study, we reported a new class of carbon nanomaterial, named carbon nanoballs (CNBs), consisting of highly mesoporous spheres. Structural characterization revealed that the synthesized CNBs have excellent a meso-macro hierarchical pore structure, with an average diameter greater than 10 nm and a total pore volume more than $1.00cm^3g^{-1}$. In this study, CNBs are applied in an actual Li-air battery to evaluate the electrochemical performance. The formation mechanism and electrochemical performance of the CNBs are discussed in detail.
