Jundae reservoir has basin area of 234ha, average depth of 3.77m and total storage of $619{\times}10^3m^3$, and is located in Dangin-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. The water quality of Jundae reservoir exceeded the IV grade of water quality standard as available for irrigation water in COD, TN, TP, Chl-a. COD and Chl-a were higher in spring season, because the algal bloom by phytoplankton increased. And the algal blooms in October by inflow non-point pollution during summer rainy season. The most dominant zooplankton was rotifers during study period at all stations. Dominant species were Keratella cochlearis, Polyarthra spp., and Trichocerca spp. We successfully established 2 isolated clone cultures as predator. One is Rotifer, Euchlanis sp. and another is cladocerans, Bosmina sp. To test the removal rate of 2 cultures against Microcystis aeruginosa, we inoculated Euchlanis sp. and Bosmina sp. separately when the abundance reached at $1.0{\times}10^6$cells/ml. Euchlanis sp. removed M. aeruginosa around 98.9% and Bosmina sp. removed it around 98.4%. They are useful grazers for controling algae blooms, Euchlanis sp. and Bosmina sp. feeding on M. aeruginosa highly.

The reservoir is one of the important partsof facilities for development of irrigation water in Korea. Accordingly, construction of the reservoir will be stressed in the field of future development of agricultural water resources. In the meantime, storage capacity is actually is limited to some extent with various conditions. Acreage of benefited area shall be determined according to such conditions as catchment area, precipitation and unit water requirment within benefited area. According to results of the past construction of the reservoir, the ratio of catchment area to benefited area would be 4:1 to 2.5:1 or catchment area is approximately 2.5 times larger and over than benefited area. In order words, it is the ordinary practice in the construction of reservoir that benefited area should be less than 1/2.5 times as large as catchment area. Moreover, limitation of catchment area would prevent largely the vast drought-stricken area from being benefited by irrigation facilites. This has been, in fact, caused by the fact that a good deal of water stored in the reservoir overflows wastefully through spillway of the reservoir at th time of flood season, and that only very little of the overflowed water is available for irrigation. However, if the more wasted water is stored during the flood season, the larger area of farmland can irrigated. That is, catchment area can reduced to less than 2.5 times as large as benefited area. On the other hand, it is afraid that such reduction should bring about the increase of unit storage capacity. And storage capacity being maximized, costs for construction of the reservoir will be raised too highly, thus making the economics feasibility unfavorable. The purpose of this study is to decide the ratio of catchment area to benefited area toward the minimum level as possible in consideration of the hydrological and economic aspects. Kopung Project which is located in Sosan-kun, Chungnam Province is taken as an example for the review and analysis in this study, and as an example for crop, rice is taken. After consideration of this project, we can find out that annual average inflow is 726mm and annual average water requirements is 811mm. And the ratio of catchment area to benefited area is 1.2:1. This means that catchment area can be reduced even to 1.2 times as large as benefited area. In conclusion, this study reveals that the construction of reservoir is feasible in view of economic and technical points provided that catchment area is more than 1.5 times as large as benefited area.
Solar energy has been experiencing renewed interest because of the recent economical crisis in Korea. Absorption cooling is one of the promising solar energy utilization technologies. In this study the dynamic performance of a solar driven absorption cooling machine(SDACM) was numerically investigated. The simulated machine is a commercially available water/LiBr single effect absorption chillers driven by hot water from solar collectors. The present study has been directed to investigate the dynamic behavior of a solar cooling system including an absorption chiller, solar collector, a hot water storage tank, fan coil units, and the air-conditioned space. The operation of the system was simulated for 9 hours in varying operation conditions. The variation of temperature and concentration in the system components, and that of heat transfer rates in the system were obtained. It was also found that the room temperature was maintained near the desired value by controlling the mass flow rate of hot water.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the fracture toughness of currently available resin cements for zirconia restorations and evaluate the effect of water storage on fracture toughness of those resin cements. Materials and methods: Single-edge notched specimens ($3mm{\times}6mm{\times}25mm$) were prepared from three currently available dual cure resin cements for zirconia restorations (Panavia F 2.0, Clearfil SA luting and Zirconite). Each resin cement was divided into four groups: immersed in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 1 (Control group), 30, 90, or 180 days (n=5). Specimens were loaded in three point bending at a cross-head speed of 0.1 mm/s. The maximum load at specimen failure was recorded and the fracture toughness ($K_{IC}$) was calculated. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and multiple comparison $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test (${\alpha}$=.05). Results: In control group, the mean $K_{IC}$ was $3.41{\pm}0.64MN{\cdot}m^{-1.5}$ for Panavia F, 2.0, $3.07{\pm}0.41MN{\cdot}m^{-1.5}$ for Zirconite, $2.58{\pm}0.30MN{\cdot}m^{-1.5}$ for Clearfil SA luting respectively, but statistical analysis revealed no significant difference between them. Although a gradual decrease of $K_{IC}$ in Panavia F 2.0 and gradual increases of KIC in Clearfil SA luting and Zirconite were observed with storage time, there were no significant differences between immersion time for each cement. Conclusion: The resin cements for zirconia restorations exhibit much higher $K_{IC}$ values than conventional resin cements. The fracture toughness of resin cement for zirconia restoration would not be affected by water storage.

In order to ensure good animal health and performance, it is essential to produce forages with high feeding value and good hygienic quality. However, huge amounts of forages consumed by ruminants are contaminated with mold prior to harvest or during storage as hay, straw or silage. These mold can grow in forages only when nutrients are available, correct temperature exist, oxygen is present, and unbound water is available. Fungal 'species can be divided into two groups: field fungi and storage fungi. Field fungi invade the forages while the crop is still in the field, require high moisture conditions, and are such as species of Fusarium, Alternaria, Clodosporium, Diplodia, Gibberrella and Helminthosporium. Storage fungi invade forages during storage and need less moisture than field fungi. These such as species of Aspergillus and Penicillium usually do not occur any problem before harvest. Mold growth can spoil the nutritional aspects of the forages and also results in secondary metabolites that are highly toxic to animal, humans and plants. Moldy feeds are less palatable and may reduce dry matter intake. This, in turn, leads to a reduction of nutrition intake, reducing weight gains or milk production. Performance losses of 5 to 10 percent are typical with moldy feeds. Mycotoxins are toxic substances produced by fungi (molds) growing on crops in the field or storages. While greater than 400 mycotoxins have been chemically identified, the biological or veterinary medical impact of only several mycotoxins is known. Mycotoxins have attracted considerable attention as potential causes for poor performance and health disorders in domestic livestock. They can be carcinogenic, hepatotoxic, hematotoxic, immunosuppressive, estrogenic, or mutagenic. So, feeding moldy forages has adverse effects on animal health and milk consumers. Also, this author reported that rice straw hay was contaminated mycotoxigenic fungi such as Penicillium roqueforti and Fusarium culmorum in Korea. Therefore, it is an urgent need to develop an improved post harvest storage method to reduce nutrient loss and mycotoxin contamination of forages, which will have a positive impact on human health.

Quality stability and utilization of sardine protein concentrates were investigated. pH, water activity and amino-nitrogen contents of autoclaved and boiled products were little changed during the storage of 60 days. Available lysine contents of the both products at the initial stage of storage were 5.58g/16g-N and 5.69g/16g-N, respectively. But the available lysine contents and digestibility of the both products decreased slightly with increasing of storage time. Lipophilic and hydrophilic brown pigment formation of the both products increased during storage of 60 days, but peroxide value(POV) and thiobarbituric acid(TBA) value decreased. Total amino acid contents of the both products were in the range of $88.99{\~}89.90g/16g-N$, and the predominant ones were glutamic acid, aspartic acid, leucine and lysine. From the sensory scores of model snack, it is concluded that the sardine protein concentrate can be used as a source material for snack.

An Idea to estimate flexible criteria for river water use permits was proposed that takes the spatio-temporal flow variation along the river into account, which was applied to the Keumho River, one of the tributary of the Nakdong River in Korea. This idea implies the temporal division of four periods with different criteria, combining flood/non-flood seasons and irrigation/non-irrigation periods, while a single one has been applied throughout the year in the current practice. Through flow regime analysis of daily natural flow simulations at Dongchon and Seongseo, the control points of the study area, Q355 and 1Q10 for non-flood and non-irrigation period, Q275 for non-flood and irrigation period, Q185 for flood and irrigation period were suggested respectively. So, those values that subtract instream flow were determined as the flexible criteria in each season. From the comparison of current practice and the proposed method, it was estimated that $10.6\;million\;m^3/year$ is available for more water use permits without additional development of water storage. Therefore, it is conceived that flexible criteria for river water use permission suggested in this study can contribute to improve the national policies for more efficient water resources management in the future.
Water quantity and quality monitoring at Taipei Watershed Management Bureau (WRATB) is not only a daily business but also a long term job. WRATB is responsible for providing high quality drinking water to about four millions population in Taipei. The quality of drinking water provided by WRATB is among one of the best in Taiwan. The total area is 717 square kilometers. The water resource pollution is usually divided into two categories, point source pollution and nonpoint source pollution. Garbage disposal is the most important component of the point source pollution, especially those by tourist during holidays and weekends. Pesticide pollution, fertilizer pollution, and natural pollution are the major contributions for nonpoint source pollution. The objective of this paper is to implement remote sensing, geographic information systems, and global positioning systems to monitor water quantity and water quality at WRATB. There are 12 water quality monitoring stations and four water gauge stations at WRATB. The coordinates of the 16 stations were determined by GPS devices and created into the base maps. MapObjects and visual BASIC were implemented to create application modules for water quality and quantity monitoring. Water quality of the two major watersheds at WRATB was put on Internet for public review monthly. The GIS software, ArcIMS, can put location maps and attributes of all 16 stations on Internet for general public review and technical implementations at WRATB. Inquiry and statistic charts automatic manipulations for the past 18 years are also available. Garbage disposal by community and tourist were also managed by GIS and GPS. The storage, collection, and transportation of garbage were reviewed by ArcMap file format. All garbage cart and garbage can at WRATB can be displayed on the base maps. Garbage disposal by tourist during holidays and weekends can be managed by a PDA with a GPS device and a digital camera. Man power allocation for tourist garbage disposal management can be done in an integration of GIS and GPS. Monitoring of water quality and quantity at WRATB can be done on Internet and by a PDA.

Geographic data which are difficult to handle by the characteristics of spatial variation and variety turned into a possibility to analyze with tlie computer-aided digital map and the use of Geographic Information System(GIS). The purpose of this study is to develop and apply a GIS application model (GISCELWAB) for the spatial simulation of surface runoff from a small watershed. This paper discribes the modeling procedure and the applicability of the cell water balance model (CELWAB) which calculates the water balance of a cell and simulates surface runoff of watershed simultaneously by the interaction of cells. The cell water balance model was developed to simulate the temporal and spatial storage depth and surface runoff of a watershed. The CELWAB model was constituted by Inflow-Outflow Calculator (JOC) which was developed to connect cell-to-cell transport mechanism automatically in this study. The CELWAB model requests detail data for each component of a cell hydrologic process. In this study, therefore, BANWOL watershed which have available field data was selected, and sensitivity for several model parameters was analyzed. The simulated results of surface runoff agreed well with the observed data for the rising phase of hydrograph except the recession phase. Each mean of relative errors for peak discharge and peak time was 0.21% and2.1 1% respectively. In sensitivity analysis of CELWAB , antecedent soil moisture condition(AMC) affected most largely the model.

Sediment has been increasingly acknowledged as a carrier in water system and an available contamination. For this reason, dredging of sediment in reservoir to remediate water quality and secure storage capacity is conducted annually. However, disposal of numerous dredged sediment is necessary as a secondary problem. Currently, in Korea, dredged sediment is classified as waste to be reclamated or recycled into sandy soil, however, they are still in trouble because of spacial and environmental problem. Therefore, rather than simple disposal or reuse into sandy soil, it is necessary to research on method to manage main cause of pollution and increase the value as a resource. In this study, we intend to develop a recycle technology for numerous dredged sediment produced by dredging in deteriorated reservoirs using solidificator (stabilizer). To achieve this, we will consider utilization of dredged sediment and evaluation of use possibility as natural recycle by analysis the characteristics of soil-solidificator mixture in terms of physicochemical properties and the mixing ratio between sediment and solidificator.
