On Optimal Replacement Policies for a Deteriorating System (기능저하 시스템에서의 최적 교체 정책)

  • In this paper, replacement problems for a deteriorating system are considered. In the system under consideration, the successive lifetimes after repair become shorter and shorter, while the consecutive repair times become longer and longer. More specifically, the lifetimes of the system form a nonhomogeneous Poisson process, whereas the consecutive repair times constitute a stochastically increasing geometric process. Optimal replacement policies for the long-run average cost rate and the steady state availability are considered. Also taking the cost and the availability into consideration at the same time, the properties of optimal policies under the Cost Priority Policy and the Availability Priority Policy are obtained.

  • In the past few decades, many catastrophic natural disasters have occurred not only in Japan and Korea, but also in other countries in the world, forcing people to live in unfamiliar houses for middle or long range evacuation periods. Residents staying in temporary houses exhibit insomnia, resulting in severe fatigue. In order to investigate sleeping state of residents, measuring vital signals has been performed at examination room of a hospital. To avoid the restriction of residents' movement, we propose to use smartphone and/or wearable devices with various high performance sensors like measuring heart beat rate. We clarify the availability and usefulness of those devices as support for analyzing daily sleeping state of residents.

  • An aircraft must be designed to minimize system failure rate for obtaining the aircraft safety, because the aircraft system failure causes a fatal accident. The safety of the aircraft system can be predicted by analyzing availability, reliability, and maintainability of the system. In this study, the reliability and the maintainability of the hydraulic system are analysed except the availability, and therefore the reliability and the maintainability analysis process and the results are presented for a helicopter hydraulic system. For prediction of the system reliability, the failure rate model presented in MIL-HDBK-217F is used, and MTBF is calculated by using the Part Stress Analysis Prediction and quality/temperature/environmental factors described in NPRD-95 and MIL-HDBK-338B. The maintainability is predicted by FMECA(Failure Mode, Effect & Criticality Analysis) based on MIL-STD-1629A.

A Study on the Availability of Activated Sludge for the $Pb^{2+}$ Removal in Aqueous Solution (수용액중 납이온 제거를 위한 활성슬러지의 이용가능성에 관한 연구)

  • $Pb^{2+}$ removal capacity and initial $Pb^{2+}$ removal rate were compared between non-biomaterials (granular activated carbon, powdered activated carbon, ion exchange resin, zeolite) and biomaterials (activated sludge, Aureobasidium pullulans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae). The $Pb^{2+}$ removal capacity of biomaterials were greater than that of non-biomaterials, generally. The $Pb^{2+}$ removal capacities of non-biomaterials and biomaterials were shown on the order of ion exchange resin > zeolite > granular activated carbon > powdered activated carbon and A. pullulans > S. cerevisiae > activated sludge, respectively. In the initial $Pb^{2+}$ removal rate, the non-biomaterials showed powdered activated carbon > granular activated carbon > zeolite > ion exchange resin and the biomaterials showed A. pullulans > activated sludge > S. cerevisiae. Comparing the $Pb^{2+}$ removal capacity and initial $Pb^{2+}$ removal rate of activated sludge with those of other non-biomaterials and biomaterials, activated sludge may have an availability on the removal of heavy metal ions by the economical and pratical aspects.

  • An cluster system used consist of large number of running servers, one has the problem that does the low availability occured by the high chance of the server failures and it is difficult to provide occuring software aging. In this paper, running cluster web servers consists of n primary servers and k backup servers, based on the operational parameters such as number of running primary servers, number of backup severs, rejuvenation period, rejuvenation time, failure rate of sewers, repair rate of servers, unstable rate of servers. We calculate to evaluate the rejuvenation policy such steady-state probabilities, downtime, availability, and downtime cost. We validate the solutions of mathematical model by experiments based on various operation parameters and find that the software rejuvenation method can be adopted as prventive fault tolerant technique for stability of system. The failure rate and unstable rate of the servers are essential factors for decision making of the rejuvenation policies.

Assessment of Ruminal and Post Ruminal Amino Acid Digestibility of Chinese and Canadian Rapeseed (Canola) Meals

  • Two rapeseed meal samples (Sample A, hybrid 5900 and sample B, double low rapeseed No.4) obtained from China and one Canola meal sample obtained from a local crushing plant in Canada were used to investigate the amino acid degradability of rapeseed/Canola meal in rumen and amino acid digestibility of ruminal incubation residues by precision-fed rooster bioassay. Results show that in ruminal incubation the degradation rate of non amino acid nitrogen in crude protein is higher than that for amino acid nitrogen in crude protein, the results also suggest that the degradation rate of amino acid nitrogen in Chinese rapeseed meal sample B was lower than that for Canadian Canola, but that in Chinese rapeseed meal sample A is much close to that for Canadian canola meal. For all amino acids the digestibility of the bypass or residual protein as measured by the precision-fed rooster bioassay tended to be lower for Chinese rapeseed meal sample A than for sample B or Canadian canola meal which had similar digestibility values. However following a calculation of total amino acid availability, involving the digestibility of amino acids in the rumen and rooster bioassay the results are less contradictory. Results indicated that in traditional roasting-expelling process, heat treatment, especially dry heat treatmeat could decrease amino acids degradability in rumen of rapeseed/canola meal, but also may decrease total availability of amino acids of rapeseed/canola meal.

Enhancing Service Availability in Multi-Access Edge Computing with Deep Q-Learning

  • The Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) paradigm equips network edge telecommunication infrastructure with cloud computing resources. It seeks to transform the edge into an IT services platform for hosting resource-intensive and delay-stringent services for mobile users, thereby significantly enhancing perceived service quality of experience. However, erratic user mobility impedes seamless service continuity as well as satisfying delay-stringent service requirements, especially as users roam farther away from the serving MEC resource, which deteriorates quality of experience. This work proposes a deep reinforcement learning based service mobility management approach for ensuring seamless migration of service instances along user mobility. The proposed approach focuses on the problem of selecting the optimal MEC resource to host services for high mobility users, thereby reducing service migration rejection rate and enhancing service availability. Efficacy of the proposed approach is confirmed through simulation experiments, where results show that on average, the proposed scheme reduces service delay by 8%, task computing time by 36%, and migration rejection rate by more than 90%, when comparing to a baseline scheme.

  • Determining of Strategic Business Units in the organization is a major critical process for improving the organizational performance. On increasing the demands for extension in function of health center, many health centers are trying to provide the various services. But most health center determined the kind and level of service without scientific considerations. The purposes of this study are to develope the model for determination of strategic business units in health center and to test the availability of implementation for it. Our model is rooted from the McKinsey matrix analysis of Product Portfolio Analysis which used widely in marketing field. We modified the evaluation criteria of the McKinsey matrix analysis for health care field appropriately. Our evaluation criteria are categorized into two concepts; contribution of service, availability of service. At first, in terms of contribution of service, market size, market growth rate, needs and demands of regional people, existences of alternative services in that region, correspondence with health policy. The other component, availability of service are included the availability of manpower, financial availability, the level of knowhow on service, acceptance of health care manpower. In the result of analysis, we could conclude that antismoking and antialcoholics education programs, health screening program are important strategically in that aspects of contributions and availability of services. Also, vaccination program is important in that aspect of service availability and diet and exercise program, health library are meaningful in the aspect of service contribution. Therefore, we think that efforts to investigate the evaluation criteria for priority setting or determination of service area in health center are useful challenges.

  • In this paper, we propose angular rate computation algorithm using GPS carrier phase. A direct angylar rate masurement has not previously been available form GRS, although its availability is highly desirable for use in state feedback control. So we propose angular rate computationalgorithm which derive angular rate from the velocity of differentiated carrier phase og GPS. The proposed algorithm contains attitude determination using double-differentiated carrier phase and 2 baseline configuration whcih provide more practical applications than 3 baseline.

  • Spare part problem of MIME (Multi Indenture Multi Echelon) system under availability constraint has been studied for several decades. In most of existing studies, it was very difficult to obtain the optimal numbers of spare parts and some approximate methods were proposed under many restrictions. In this paper, we consider a simulation to estimate the total cost rate and system availability and a genetic algorithm to obtain the optimal numbers of spare parts. Some numerical examples are also studied.
