  • A female pug was presented with severe anemia, dyspnea and hemoglobinuria. By B- and M-mode echocardiography, the large number of heartworm were founded in the right ventricle, right atrium and pulmonary artery. The heartworm mass was moved from the right ventricle to the right atrium with the motion of the tricuspid value. Paradoxic septum motion were visible in M-mode of left ventrcular outflow tract and chordae tendineae level short-axis view. Flattened interventricular septum was find in B-mode of papillary muscle level short-axis view. In autopsy, 81 adult heartworms and 7 filarial debris were found. Most of adult heartworm were found in the right ventricle and pulmonary artery. 3 of them were found in the venaca and right atrium, respectively.

  • The mortalities of the gorals (Nemorhaedus goral raddeanus) that have been raised in Everland Zoological Gardens were retrospectively analyzed based on the clinical charts and autopsy reports from 1976 to 1999. During that Period a total of 17 gorals were died. Infectious factos (35.2%), digestive (23.5%) and respiratory disorders (17.6%) account feta the majority of cause of death. The The mortality of newborn gorals (50%) were significantly higher than that of adult (20%) and juvenile gorals (0%) due to infectious disease. 83.5% of the infectious disease were found in the garals younger than 5 months old. The cause of death of 5 newborn gorals died by infectious disease were as follows: 1aryngeal diphtheria, 2 (40%); actinobacillosis,2 (40%): coccidiosis. 1 (20%). It was considered that proper hygenic epic precautions in goral Pens ir feeding Places together with avoidance of rough feed are needed for the prevention of death of infectious cause at the goral raising in zoo-logical gardens.

  • Papilloma of the larynx can occur in infants and adults and the tumor is pathologically benign but clinically takes malignant course due to recurrence or malignant change. The authors experienced a case of papilloma of larynx which occured in his infancy and was treated several times surgically due to recurrence but spread to trachea and lung and finally lead to death with malignant change. We here report the case with the case with pt's hospital course, autopsy findings and it's literature consideration.

  • A 52-year-old man was found dead in the driver's seat of his tank lorry. The tank lorry was used to transport industrial wastewater to a disposal plant; the material was transferred into a storage tank with the help of compressed air. The wastewater contained methylene chloride and 2-chloropyridine. No respiratory protective equipment was used while working under these conditions. The autopsy report showed extensive edema and congestion of the brain, lung, and intraperitoneal organs. The concentrations of methylene chloride in lung and brain were reported at 398 and 67 mg/kg, respectively.

  • Concentrations of heavy metals, including As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Se, Si, Sn, V and Zn in the internal organs (liver, kidney, heart, lung, spleen, cerebrum and bone) of Korean obtained from 91 forensic medical autopsy cadavers, with an age range of 12-87 years, were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. From the results, positive correlation with age was observed in the following cases : Cd in liver, kidney and cerebrum; Fe in cerebrum and bone; Pb in bone; v in lung. Copper in heart, Hg in bone and Mn in kidney correlated negatively with age. A significantly positive correlation between Se and Hg was only observed in heart. Significant correlation coefficients between Se and As were observed in liver, kidney, heart spleen and bone. The correlation between Cd and Zn was significant in liver and kidney, indicating that the distribution of Cd is similar to that of Zn in the liver and kidney.

  • One case of anatomically corrected malposition of the great arteries was managed at department of cardiothoracic surgery, Chungnam National University Hospital at May, 1984. Anatomically corrected malposition of the great arteries was an extremely rare congenital heart disease. Only 21 cases were reported in English literatures. If there are no associated cardiac disease, the patient will have normal life span. This 39 year old man had suffered from exertional dyspnea for 6 years. He had carried out normal military service as a sergeant for 8 years, and his life was not restricted before this episode. He had operated under diagnosis of mitral stenoinsufficiency & tricuspid regurgitation but died because of lower cardiac output.,br> At autopsy, the great arteries were malpositioned but viscera and lung were normal position and picture. The aortic valve was located left and anterior to the pulmonic valve and there are bilateral conus in this anatomically corrected malposition of the great arteries. The coronary arteries were normal distribution.

  • The present studies were undertaken in attempt to investigate the therapeutic effect of ethanol in dogs intoxicated with ethylene glycol Three dogs treated with ethylene glycol and other three dogs with ethylene glycol plus 20% ethanol orally were examined on clinical signs, endoscopic views, histopathological findings, and autopsy findings respectively. The results obtained were summarized as fellows : 1. The clinical sings and their severity of dogs intoxicated with ethylene glycol were time related and progressed from vomiting, depression, thirsty, tachycardia, tachypnea, convulsiot ataxia, melena, uremia and coma, but clinical signs of dogs treated with ethylene glycol and ethanol simultaneously only stowed vomiting and thirsty. 2. In the gastroscopic view, the dogs intoxicated with ethyelne glycol showed edematous, hyperemia, errosive and ulcerative lesions in the fundus and body area but the dogs treated with ethylene glycol and ethanol simultanously showed edematous and hyperemic lesions. 3. Oral treatment of ethanol with ethylene glycol simultaneously have reduced the signs of EG intoxications in dogs.

  • The occurrence of inclusion body hepatitis was confirmed for the first time in Korea from chickens submitted for diagnosis to this Institute from a farm located in the vicinity of Anyang. The chickens showed no specific clinical signs except for moderate anemic conditions. At autopsy, livers were swollen and mottled with numerous stellate subcapsular hemorrhages and necrotic foci. Severe nephritis and catarrhal enteritis were also seen. The most notable microscopic changes were seen in the liver. These included eosinophilic intra-nuclear inclusion bodies in the hepatocyes, massive hemorrhages and necrosis and fatty changes in the liver parenchema.

  • Subacute toxicity of Hantabax, epidemic hemorrhagic fever vaccine, was investigated in ICR mice with subcutaneous injection. Any significant toxic symptom was not observed in the treated mice during the experimental period. Macroscopic examination on the organs of tested animals showed no abnormal findings. On autopsy, no significant changes were found in all organs examined.
