In this article we present modular neural control for a leg-wheel hybrid robot consisting of three legs with omnidirectional wheels. This neural control has four main modules having their functional origin in biological neural systems. A minimal recurrent control (MRC) module is for sensory signal processing and state memorization. Its outputs drive two front wheels while the rear wheel is controlled through a velocity regulating network (VRN) module. In parallel, a neural oscillator network module serves as a central pattern generator (CPG) controls leg movements for sidestepping. Stepping directions are achieved by a phase switching network (PSN) module. The combination of these modules generates various locomotion patterns and a reactive obstacle avoidance behavior. The behavior is driven by sensor inputs, to which additional neural preprocessing networks are applied. The complete neural circuitry is developed and tested using a physics simulation environment. This study verifies that the neural modules can serve a general purpose regardless of the robot's specific embodiment. We also believe that our neural modules can be important components for locomotion generation in other complex robotic systems or they can serve as useful modules for other module-based neural control applications.
This paper presents a neural net based nonlinear adaptive controller for an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). AUV's dynamics are highly nonlinear and their hydrodynamic coefficients vary with different operational conditions, so it is necessary for the high performance control system of an AUV to have the capacities of learning and adapting to the change of the AUV's dynamics. In this paper a linearly parameterized neural network is used to approximate the uncertainties of the AUV's dynamic, and the basis function vector of network is constructed according to th AUV's physical properties. A sliding mode control scheme is introduced to attenuate the effect of the neural network's reconstruction errors and the disturbances in AUV's dynamics. Using Lyapunov theory, the stability of the presented control system is guaranteed as well as the uniformly boundedness of tracking errors and neural network's weights estimation errors. Finally, numerical simulations for motion control of an AUV are performed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.

In this paper, we analyze the infrared feature for the small coast targets according to the surrounding environment for autonomous flight device equipped with an infrared imaging sensor and we propose Cross Duality of Neural Network (CR-DuNN) method which can classify the target and clutter in coastal environment. In coastal environment, there are various property according to diverse change of air temperature, sea temperature, deferent seasons. And small coast target have various infrared feature according to diverse change of environment. In this various environment, it is very important thing that we analyze and classify targets from the clutters to improve target detection accuracy. Thus, we propose infrared feature learning algorithm through LSTM neural network and also propose CR-DuNN algorithm that integrate LSTM prediction network with Du-CNN classification network to classify targets from the clutters.
In this paper, we present autonomous mobile robot system, which has an image recognition module and perform tasks by itself with manipulator. Autonomous mobile robot can push each individual button on an elevator panel from a person's command. After the robot receives its command, it analyzes the image information of the elevator button that is acquired by CCD camera in an indoor environment with an elevator. In order to recognize the numbers on the button, the robot separates the number area in button and recognizes the segment through a neural network algorithm. We use the bar code form on the manipulator to find the position of the end of manipulator. The validity of the proposed method i...
The objective of this paper is, based upon the principles of artificial life, to induce emergent behaviors of multiple autonomous mobile robots which form from simple local rules to complex global intelligence. Here, we propose an architecture of neural network learing with reinforcement signals which perceives the neighborhood information and decides the direction and the velocity of movement as mobile robots navigates in a group. As results of the simulations, the optimum weights are obtained in real time, which not only prevent from the collisions between agents and obstacles in the dynamic environment, but also have the mobile robots move and keep in various patterns.

The part of manipulators is normally studied with regularized environmental conditions. however, it is the most difficult that the part of AMR must be studied with uncertainty in the environmental conditions. The part of AMR has skelton, sensor fusion, path planning etc. This paper is the research of the local pass planning that gathers information about external environment using neural network from each sensors and designs the algorithm which can determine which correct direction the robot can find. As the result of the research, AMR has been able to drive similarly as if the expert does and has been able to observe it acting without any control.

In this paper, we propose a new method for designing the steering controller of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle(AUV) using a Self-Recurrent Wavelet Neural Network(SRWNN). The proposed control method is based on a direct adaptive control technique, and a SRWNN is used for the controller of horizontal motion of AUV. A SRWNN is tuned to minimize errors between the SRWNN outputs and the outputs of AUV via the gradient descent(GD) method. Finally, through the computer simulations, we compare the performance of the propose controller with that of the MLP based controller to verify the superiority and effectiveness of the propose controller.
This paper proposes a photorealistic real-time dense 3D mapping system that utilizes a neural network-based image enhancement method and mesh-based map representation. Due to the characteristics of the underwater environment, where problems such as hazing and low contrast occur, it is hard to apply conventional simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) methods. At the same time, the behavior of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is computationally constrained. In this paper, we utilize a neural network-based image enhancement method to improve pose estimation and mapping quality and apply a sliding window-based mesh expansion method to enable lightweight, fast, and photorealistic mapping. To validate our results, we utilize real-world and indoor synthetic datasets. We performed qualitative validation with the real-world dataset and quantitative validation by modeling images from the indoor synthetic dataset as underwater scenes.
This paper presents a method of landmark recognition in indoor environments using a neural-network for an autonomous mobile robot. In order to adapt to image deformation of a landmark resulted from variations of view-points and distances, a multi-labeled template matching(MLTM) method and a dynamic area search method(DASM) are proposed. The MLTM is. used for matching an image template with deformed real images and the DASM is proposed to detect correct feature points among incorrect feature points. Finally a feed-forward neural-network using back-propagation algorithm is adopted for recognizing the landmark.
This paper presents a stable nonlinear adaptive control for AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) by using neural network. AUV's dynamics are highly nonlinear, and their hydrodynamic coefficients vary with different operational conditions. In this paper, the nonlinear uncertainties of the AUV's dynamics are approximated by using LPNN(Linearly parameterized Neural Network). The presented controller is consist of three parallel terms; linear feedback control, sliding mode control, and adaptive control(LPNN). Lyapunov theory is used to guarantee the stability of tracking errors and neural network´s weights errors. Numerical simulations for nonlinear control of the AUV show the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.
