Many in the industrial world that consume high amounts of energy are trying to reduce energy when manufacturing their products. Energy saving during manufacturing is a cost reduction. Reduced cost is necessary for profit improvement. The Piston Under Drive Brake used in the current study is an automotive transmission part. The original machining after hot forging was changed to machining after cold forging of a plate in order to save energy and cost. Two extrusion shapes along the outer diameter caused decreased tool life because of the interrupted cut during turning. Therefore, a thickness reduction of two extrusion areas in the outer diameter was needed. The current study suggests an effective way to reduce the thickness of interrupted cut by using progressive blanking.

The materials used for 3D printing are mainly plastic and metal. These materials are usually used in the powdered form. In order to improve the surface roughness of a manufactured product, these powders should consist of small uniform spherical particles. However, the powdered forms are sold at a considerably higher price than bulk or wired materials. When a wire-type material is used instead of a powder, we can supply a relatively large amount of the material at one time as well as reduce the cost. Moreover, the use of this form of the material will increase the process efficiency. This paper deals with the technology required to feed a wire material in front of the tool movement and discusses the examples used for the verification.

High-accuracy micropatterns such as V-shaped microgrooves are increasingly in demand for various engineering areas. And the technical trend goes for large surface areas in precision machining technology. So micropatterns with large surface areas are expected to play an increasingly important role in today's manufacturing technology In this study, we focused on developing machining technologies. First, a machine vision system for precise tool setting is developed. Second, an on-machine measurement (OMM) system for large-area measurement is implemented. And also software for tool path generation and simulation is developed. With these technologies we fabricated large-surface micropatterns in an electroless nickel-plated workpiece with single-crystal diamond tools and a 32-in, $675mm{\times}450mm$ mold with tens of V-and pyramid-shaped micropatterns.

Hydroforming is a forming technology in which a steel tube is set in a die and formed to fit a specified shape by applying hydraulic pressure from inside the tube while also applying force in the tube axial direction (axial feed). In present study, the entire design process chain for an automotive cross-member was simulated and developed using hydroforming technology on high-strength steel. The part design stage required a feasibility study. The process was designed using computer-aided design techniques to confirm the actual hydroformability of the part in detail. The possibility of using hydroformable cross-member parts was examined using cross-sectional analyses, which were essential to ensure the formability of the tube material for each forming step, including pre-bending and hydroforming. The die design stage included all the components of a prototyping tool. Press interference was investigated in terms of geometry and thinning.
Coverglass of electronic equipments is thinner and slimmer, so the glass must have good bending strength. In these days, the polishing edge of glass is used by solid tool like grinding wheel. But solid tool leave micro crack or edge chipping in edge of glass. MR polishing is an optimal method by polishing edge of glass. MR polishing is used MR fluid that is a liquid tool. MR polishing doesn't leave tool path or residual stress, micro crack and edge chipping unlike grinding wheel polishing. In this paper, the results of grinding and MR polishing were compared and analyzed to improve bending strength by minimizing edge chipping of cover glass. It was derived that the depth and size of cracks have a significant influence on the bending strength of the glass edge. The edges of the glass using MR grinding were analyzed to have a better surface and higher bending strength than the glass using abrasive wheel grinding. It was confirmed that MR polishing had an effect on strength improvement by effectively removing cracks in the specimen.

Recently, an ERP (Enterprise resource Planning) system has been becoming an essential S/W tool for companies to manage their business processes and manufacturing resources. As the information exchange becomes more complex, not only corporate companies but also small- and mid- sized enterprises (SMEs) are required to build an ERP system. However, for small- and middle- sized companies, the adoption of ERP systems becomes challenging due to high cost and long installation time of the system. This paper presents a novel concept of an adaptive ERP system incorporating the ontology structure of the business supply chain information. The proposed ERP installation methodology is illustrated with an example of a door-trim manufacturing company in the automotive supply chain.
In laser-assisted machining (LAM), laser beam is used to locally increase the temperature of a workpiece and thus to enhance the machinability. In order to set the temperature of the material removal area of a workpiece at an optimal value, process parameters, such as laser power, feed rate, and rotational velocity, have to be carefully controlled. In this work, the effects of laser power and feed rate on the temperature distribution of a silicon nitride rotating at a constant velocity were experimentally investigated. Using a pyrometer, temperatures at various locations of the silicon nitride were measured both in circumferential and axial directions. The measured temperatures were fitted to a quadratic equation to approximate the temperature at the cutting location. The machining results showed that cutting force and tool wear were decreased when the temperature at the cutting location was increased.

The deep learning image processing technique was used to prevent accidents in lathe work caused by worker negligence. During lathe operation, when the chuck is rotated, it is very dangerous if the operator's hand is near the chuck. However, if the chuck is stopped during operation, it is not dangerous for the operator's hand to be in close proximity to the chuck for workpiece measurement, chip removal or tool change. We used YOLO (You Only Look Once), a deep learning image processing program for object detection and classification. Lathe work images such as hand, chuck rotation and chuck stop are used for learning, object detection and classification. As a result of the experiment, object detection and class classification were performed with a success probability of over 80% at a confidence score 0.5. Thus, we conclude that the artificial intelligence deep learning image processing technique can be effective in preventing incidents resulting from worker negligence in future manufacturing systems.
Laser has been called a "Quantum Machine" because of its mechanism of generation since the development on July 7,1960.by T.H.Maiman. We can now use this machine as a tool for manufacturing in industries. At present, 45kW CO2 laser, 10kW Nd:YAG laser, 6kW LD pumped YAG laser and 4kW direct diode laser facilities are available for welding a heavy steel plate of 40mm in thickness and for cutting metals at high speed of 140m/min. Laser Materials Processing is no longer a scientific curiosity but a modern tool in industries. Lasers in manufacturing sector are currently used in welding, cutting, drilling, cladding, marking, cleaning, micro-machining and forming. Recently, high power laser diode, 10kW LD pumped YAG laser, 700W fiber laser and excimer laser have been developed in the industrialized countries. As a result of large numbers of research and developments, the modem laser materials processing has been realized and used in all kinds of industries now. In the present paper, metallurgical studies on laser materials processing such as porosity formation, hot cracking and the joint performances of steels and aluminum alloys and dissimilar joint are discussed after the introduction of laser facilities and laser applications in industries such as automotive industry, electronics industry, and steel making industry. The wave towards the use of laser materials processing and its penetration into many industries has started in many countries now. Especially, development of high power/quality diode laser will be accelerate the introduction of this magnificent tool, because of the high efficiency of about 50%, long life time and compact.
Welding is an absolutely essential component of industries such as the automotive industry, the construction industry and even the aviation industry. Although it is a widespread technology it is still characterized by lots of uncertainties. This still requires well experienced and highly skilled workforce to design and perform safe welding processes. The early knowledge of distortion and residual stresses is almost an issue which is influenced mainly by the welding parameters and the fixture design. But more and more engineers want to know as well final properties of the assembled components. With the beginning of the computer age in the 1970s and 1980s last century, the numerical prediction of manufacturing processes using FEM was gradually getting better and has established itself in the industry since the 1990s as a standard tool. Unlike in metal casting and forming industry, however, the everyday use of FEM- simulation tools for welding processes eked out a shadowy existence for a long time. This paper will give a short classification of welding simulation types and a structured overview on the technical questions. Selected case studies and the benefits achieved through simulations with the software Simufact welding are discussed. Finally an outlook on future developments will be given.
