  • Defect inspection system for industrial applications takes the important portion. Non-destructive inspection method has been significantly improved. Infrared thermography, as one of method for non-destructive inspection, can provide relatively precise data and quick inspection time. This study, it was performed to measure defect according to the measurement limit of the non-visible areas such as the back surface of the pipe using reflection plate using reflection plate based on Infrared thermography. The materials of the reflection plate were determined in consideration of the space limitation and the thermal characteristics, and defects were detected by the manufactured reflection plate. Detection of defect in non-visible area using the candidate materials for reflection plate was conducted.

  • Implementing flexible production systems in domestic and foreign automotive design parts assembly has increased demand for automation and power reduction. Consequently, transition to a hybrid production method is observed where multiple vehicles are assembled in a single assembly line. Multiple robots, 3D vision sensors, mounting positions, and correction software have complex configurations in the automotive glass mounting system. Hence, automation is required owing to significant difficulty in the assembly process of automobile parts. This study presents a primer lighting and inspection algorithm that is robust to the assembly environment of real automotive design parts using high power 'ㄷ'-shaped LED inclined lighting. Furthermore, a 2D camera was developed in the primer coating inspection system-the core technology of the glass mounting system. A primer application demo line applicable to the actual automobile production line was established using the proposed high power lighting and algorithm. Furthermore, application inspection performance was verified using this demo system. Experimental results verified that the performance of the proposed system exceeded the level required to satisfy the automobile requirements.

  • Meeting the growing demand deadlines, reducing the production cost and upgrading the quality control measurements are the reasons why the automotive part manufacturers are venturing into automation. Attaining these objectives is impossible with human inspection for many reasons. Accordingly, the introduction of inspection system purposely for door hinge bracket inspection is presented in this study as an alternative for human inspection. This proposal is designed to meet the demands, features and specifications of door hinge bracket manufacturing companies in striving for increased throughput of better quality. To improve demerits of this manual operation, inspection system is introduced. As the inspection algorithm, template matching algorithm is applied to distinguish the articles of good quality and the poorly made articles. Through the verification test of the inspection process algorithm and the similarity metric matching algorithm, the detection accuracy was 98%, and it was applied to the production site to contribute to the improvement of the productivity due to the decrease of the defective product.

  • In this paper, we propose a visual inspection method of automotive parts for injection molding to improve the appearance quality and productivity of automotive parts. Exterior inspection of existing injection molding automobile parts was generally done by manual sampling inspection by human. First, we applied the edge-tolerance vision inspection algorithm ([1] - [4]) for vision inspection of electronic components (TFT-LCD and PCB) And we propose a new visual inspection method to overcome the problem. In the proposed visual inspection, the inspection images of the parts to be inspected are aligned on the basis of the reference image of good quality. Then, after partial adaptive binarization, the binary block matching algorithm is used to compare the good binary image and the test binary image. We verified the effectiveness of the edge-tolerance vision check algorithm and the proposed appearance vision test method through various comparative experiments using actual developed equipment.

  • We develop an inspection method for bearing faults with a rapid change in the rotation speed and present indexes for the pass/fail inspection. At the end of line, impulse noises generated by the operation of machines and conveyors may distort the inspection results. In this paper, we present robust inspection indexes for bearing faults under impulse noises, by taking into account fault signals having pulse train. Using logistic regression, we optimize the pass/fail criterion for each index and evaluate the performance of the inspection indexes based on the total error rate.

  • In the most of a nation, the safety and emission gas inspection system of a vehicle in service have been conducted with the most compatible inspection system according to its real environmental situation. Especially, the state of vehicle emission gas is measured by advanced emission gas inspection equipment. It has the problem that the decrease effect of an environmental pollution matter is not calculated by weight percent measurement type equipment. Therefore, in this study, the correlations for the results of emission gas measurement are analyzed by comparing a weight percent measurement type (IDLE+ASM2525 mode) and an advanced mass measurement type (IM240 mode). As the result, the selectivity of an emission gas by IM240 mode is higher than that by IDLE+ASM2525 mode. In the future, therefore, the introduction of IM240 mode and a mass measurement type equipment are necessary. Also, we need to prepare a vehicle emission gas inspection system for introducing IM240 mode.

  • This study aims to improve the dynamic stiffness of an inspection robot frame to prevent derailment from transmission lines. Finite element models for the transmission lines and robot frame are developed for the multi-body dynamic simulation. Natural frequency analysis was conducted using the FE models. Three types of spacer damper clamps installed on 4-conductor transmission lines are used to evaluate the derailment of the robot. Multi-body dynamic simulations with FE models are demonstrated for sub-span oscillation. When the robot operates, derailment of inspection robot from the transmission lines is determined because of resonance. To prevent the resonance, body position was changed and thickness optimization was conducted. The results show that derailment was not occurred because of the natural frequency improvement.
