  • Recently, many electronic control techniques for vehicles have been developed and applied. One of the technologies can be X-by-wire such as throttle-by-wire, brake-by-wire, steer-by-wire, and etc, in which most of mechanical parts are replaced into electrical wire and actuators. In this study, the effect of throttle-by-wire and brake-by-wire control systems on vehicle velocity control, especially in a school zone, are taken into consideration. The number of accidents reported in school zones is higher than that in other places. The reason for this is that many vehicle drivers do not obey speed limit regulations. Moreover, some of the students are careless while crossing the streets. Therefore, in this study, we attempt to develop a method using throttle-by-wire and brake-by-wire control systems for automatically reducing the vehicle speed such that it will be within the speed limit. First, an engine model and a transmission system model are developed for a specific vehicle model. Second, speed reduction is carried out such that the reduction follows a pre-designed cubic spline trajectory; the trajectory is determined such that rapid deceleration, which causes discomfort to the driver and passengers, can be prevented, for which a fuzzy-PID control algorithm is applied for the trajectory following control. Finally, simulation results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed speed reduction control system.

  • Cornering maneuvers with reduced body roll and without comfort loss are important requirements for car manufacturers. An electric active roll control(ARC) system controls the body roll angle by using motor-driven actuators installed at the centers of the front and rear stabilizer bars. Co-simulation using the Matlab/Simulink controller model and the CarSim vehicle model was proposed to evaluate the performance of the ARC control algorithm. To validate the performance of the ARC actuator and system, bench tests and vehicle tests were proposed.

  • In this paper, an educational simulator of automobile chassis electronic control system was developed. The developed system is composed of three parts, a driving condition control & monitoring system, a chassis electronic system monitoring & analysis system, and a virtual simulator & educational multimedia contents. The driving condition control & monitoring system has a commercial real car simulator, hydraulic equipments for representing driving conditions, and a remote control and monitoring system. In the chassis electronic system monitoring & analysis system, information of various sensors and actuators applied to the system can be monitored by Labview programs. Finally, the suggested virtual simulator and the multimedia with 2D Flash and 3D animations can be used effectively by means of teaching materials.

  • The purpose of this paper analyzes and studies to seek the failure examples of electronic control actuators for engine in liquified petroleum gas vehicle. The first, it was verified phenomenon for intial starting damage and no-acceleration of engine because of occasionally fuel feeding interception by clogged of emergency cutting solenoid valve filter. The second, the contact resistance produced in the connecting part of engine control relay because of no fully surface contacting by processes and assembly badness. It was displayed phenomenon of re-starting badness. The actuator that idle speed control system was sticked inside because of intake-air decreasing by carbon deposit. As a result, it was verified the phenomenon of disharmony that repeated up and down the engine revolution.

  • This paper describes the development of unmanned vehicle remote control system which is configured with steering and accelerating/braking hardware to improve the sense of reality and safety of control. Generally, in these case of the remote control system, a joystick-type device is used for steering and accelerating/braking control of unmanned vehicle in most cases. Other systems have been developing using simple steering wheel, but there is no function of that feedback the feeling of driving situation to users and it mostly doesn't include the accelerating/braking control hardware. The technology of feedback means that a reproducing the feeling of current driving situation through steering and accelerating/braking hardware when driving a vehicle in person. In addition to studying feedback technologies that reduce unfamiliarity in remote control of unmanned vehicles, it is necessary to develop the remote control system with hardware that can improve sense of reality. Therefore, in this study, the reliable remote control system is developed and required system specification is defined for applying force-feedback haptic control technology developed through previous research. The system consists of a steering-wheel module similar to a normal vehicle and an accelerating/braking pedal module with actuators to operate by feedback commands. In addition, the software environment configured by CAN communication to send feedback commands to each modules. To verify the reliability of the remote control system, the force-feedback haptic control algorithms developed through previous research were applied, to assess the behavior of the algorithms in each situation.
