차량용 FMCW 레이더 시스템 설계용 하드웨어 플랫폼 및 임베디드 소프트웨어 개발 (Development of Hardware Platform and Embedded Software for Designing Automotive FMCW Radar System)

  • In this paper, we design the hardware platform and implement the embedded software based on the FPGA and the DSP for the automotive 77GHz FMCW radar system. This embedded software is built into the DSP as the multi-tasking architecture to support the basic target detection algorithm and the Ethernet link. The designed GUI(Graphic User Interface) provides ability to adjust parameters associated with the radar performance, to monitor signal processing results, and to download the raw received signal. The designed platform can be used to develop the optimal detection algorithms for the various applications.

  • 오늘날 FMCW 레이더 시스템은 차량의 능동 안전 시스템에 널리 활용되어지고 있다. 레이더 시스템에서 탐지확률을 높이고 오경보율을 줄이기 위해서는 정지타겟을 포함한 클러터 성분을 제거하고 관심 있는 이동타겟을 효과적으로 탐지하기 위한 알고리즘이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 이동타겟 탐지 및 클러터 제거 알고리즘을 제안한다. 먼저 제안된 이동타겟 비트주파수 검출 필터를 이용하여 클러터를 제거한다. 검출된 이동타겟 비트주파수들을 이용하여 데이터-결합 한 후, 제로-도플러 제거 알고리즘을 이용하여 남아있는 클러터를 제거한다. 이 알고리즘을 검증하기 위해 실제 FMCW 레이더를 이용하여 도로 상에서 실험하였다.

차량용 레이더센서를 이용한 IMM-PDAF 기반 종-횡방향 운동상태 검출 및 추정기법에 대한 성능분석 (Performance Analysis on the IMM-PDAF Method for Longitudinal and Lateral Maneuver Detection using Automotive Radar Measurements)

  • In order to develop an active safety system which avoids or mitigates collisions with preceding vehicles such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), accurate state estimation of the nearby vehicles is very important. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed using 3 dynamic models to better estimate the state of a vehicle which has various dynamic patterns in both longitudinal and lateral direction. In particular, the proposed algorithm is based on the Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) method which employs three different dynamic models, in cruise mode, lateral maneuver mode and longitudinal maneuver mode. In addition, a Probabilistic Data Association Filter (PDAF) is utilized as a data association algorithm which can improve the reliability of the measurement under a clutter environment. In order to verify the performance of the proposed method, it is simulated in comparison with a Kalman filter method which employs a single dynamic model. Finally, the proposed method is validated using radar data obtained from the field test in the proving ground.

Short Range Rear Obstacle Detector for Automobile Using 24GHz AM Radar Sensor

  • FMCW Radar sensor is commonly used for an automobile collision avoidance system for rider's safe. Systems using FMCW radar, however, would be one of expensive solutions for just simple rear obstacle detection purpose due to its high cost. In this letter, a short range rear obstacle detector using novel 24GHz AM radar sensor is presented. It can be implemented at significantly lower cost than FMCW radar for practical commercialization. The proposed AM radar sensor module is fabricated in a single aluminum housing to reduce the overall size while using single power supply voltage of 12V with 1200mA current for automotive applications. The measured detection range is up to 210cm with 10cm of distance resolution, which is suitable for a parking assistance system for automobiles.

  • 차량용 레이더(automotive radar)는 크기, 무게, 비용 등의 문제로 적은 수의 수신 채널을 가진 안테나를 사용한다. 이때, 스펙트럼 추정 기법 중 하나인 relaxation(RELAX) 기법을 이용하면, 표적의 방위각뿐만 아니라, 빔 내에 존재하는 표적의 개수 추정 또한, 가능하다. 하지만, 차량용 레이더의 적은 수신 채널 개수로 인하여, 정밀하지 않은 각도 영역에서의 스펙트럼 추정이 이루어지며, 이는 부정확한 방위각 추정 성능을 야기한다. 이를 개선하기 위해 본 논문에서는 minimum length description(MDL) 기준을 통한 표적 개수의 추정과 결부한 root-multiple signal classification(root-MUSIC) 기법을 이용하여 표적의 정확한 방위각을 추정하도록 제안한다. 시뮬레이션에서는 세 점 표적들이 안테나 빔 내에 존재할 때, 제안한 방법이 더 나은 방위각 추정 결과를 도출할 수 있음을 보인다.

A Study on Development of EM Wave Absorber Using TiO2 for Automotive Radar in Cars

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated an electromagnetic(EM) wave absorber for automotive radar in cars using $TiO_2$ as a dielectric material and chlorinated polyethylene(CPE) as a binder. First of all, we confirmed that the optimum composition ratio of $TiO_2$ was about 70 wt.%. The complex relative permittivity of a sample containing $TiO_2$: CPE=70:30 wt.% was calculated from S-parameter. The EM wave absorption abilities were simulated for the EM wave absorbers of different thickness using the calculated relative permittivity, and the EM wave absorber was manufactured based on the simulated design. A comparison of simulated and measured results is in good agreement. Measurement shows that a 1.85 mm thick absorber has absorption ability higher than 20 dB in the frequency range of $76{\sim}77$ GHz for automotive radars.

다중 차량센서 기반 도로주변환경 분석 및 모니터링 플랫폼 연구 (Study about Road-Surrounding Environment Analysis and Monitoring Platform based on Multiple Vehicle Sensors)

  • The age of autonomous vehicles has come according to development of high performance sensing and artificial intelligence technologies. And importance of the vehicle's surrounding environment sensing and observation is increasing accordingly because of its stability and control efficiency. In this paper we propose an integrated platform for efficient networking, analysis and monitoring of multiple sensing data on the vehicle that are equiped with various automotive sensors such as GPS, weather radar, automotive radar, temperature and humidity sensors. From simulation results, we could see that the proposed platform could perform realtime analysis and monitoring of various sensing data that were observed from the vehicle sensors. And we expect that our system can support drivers or autonomous vehicles to recognize optimally various sudden or danger driving environments on the road.

  • Radar is an object-detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range, altitude, direction, or speed of objects. High power amplifier Module is the most critical part of the high-power radar transmitter systems. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. Research related to radar has been conducted in various fields according to improvement of the communication technology. But only performance-originated technology development has been dashed; study concerning environment duality and safety concerning reliability are still insufficient. In general, radar module is exposed to the outside, on the means of moving or fixed in a certain place. It should be guaranteed sufficient immunity for a variety of environmental stresses that can occur in the outdoor. HALT is a great process used for quickly finding failure mechanisms in a hardware design and product. By applying various kinds and extreme level of stresses, we can find the operating limits of products. In thesis, we conducted HALT test of the high power amplifier modules which used in military and automotive radar. After the test, we analyzed environmental weaknesses of high power amplifier modules using conventional construction data.

  • Currently, various sensors have been used for advanced driver assistance systems. In order to overcome the limitations of individual sensors, sensor fusion has recently attracted the attention in the field of intelligence vehicles. Thus, vision and radar based sensor fusion has become a popular concept. The typical method of sensor fusion involves vision sensor that recognizes targets based on ROIs (Regions Of Interest) generated by radar sensors. Especially, because AVM (Around View Monitor) cameras due to their wide-angle lenses have limitations of detection performance over near distance and around the edges of the angle of view, for high performance of sensor fusion using AVM cameras and radar sensors the exact ROI extraction of the radar sensor is very important. In order to resolve this problem, we proposed a sensor fusion scheme based on commercial radar modules of the vendor Delphi. First, we configured multiple radar data logging systems together with AVM cameras. We also designed radar post-processing algorithms to extract the exact ROIs. Finally, using the developed hardware and software platforms, we verified the post-data processing algorithm under indoor and outdoor environments.

센서융합 검증을 위한 실시간 모니터링 및 검증 도구 개발 (Development of a Monitoring and Verification Tool for Sensor Fusion)

  • SCC (Smart Cruise Control) and AEBS (Autonomous Emergency Braking System) are using various types of sensors data, so it is important to consider about sensor data reliability. In this paper, data from radar and vision sensor is fused by applying a Bayesian sensor fusion technique to improve the reliability of sensors data. Then, it presents a sensor fusion verification tool developed to monitor acquired sensors data and to verify sensor fusion results, efficiently. A parallel computing method was applied to reduce verification time and a series of simulation results of this method are discussed in detail.
