A Study on the Vibration Reduction of an Automobile Fuel Pump (자동차용 연료펌프의 진동 저감에 대한 연구)

  • This article presents the reduction of vibration generated by an automobile fuel pump. In order to analyze the vibration of the fuel pump, a simplified dynamic model is established, which is composed of a rigid rotor and a equivalent springs. The equivalent stiffnesses of the upper and lower assemblies are evaluated by the comparison of modal testing results and the finite element analysis. The stiffness for the oil film of the journal bearing is extracted by using Reynold's equation. In addition, the time responses for the vibration of the fuel pump are computed by using a commercial multi-body dynamics software, RecurDyn. Based on these results, some design suggestions are proposed to reduce the vibration of an automobile fuel pump.

Automobile Assembly Sequence System Using Production Information (생산정보를 이용한 자동차 조립 서열시스템에 관한 연구)

  • For zero inventory and mixed assembly production, JIT (Just In Time) production system in Toyota and JIS (Just-In-Sequence) production system in Hyundai motor co. have been proposed in automobile production areas. Even though the production systems are popular in the areas, many subcontract companies producing part-modules for final production at a parent company suffers from excessive or shortage amount of inventory due to the time gap of production and delivery to the parent company. In this study, we propose an efficient real-time assembly sequence system applying a well-known Pareto method using Paint-In information in painting process and daily production planning information. Based on this system, a production line can estimate the shortage amount of UPH (Units Per Hour) at production line and recovers the amount before operating assembly production in the line. The proposed system provides efficiency on productivity compared with the previous system.

Efficiency Analysis and Finance Strategy for an Automotive Parts Maker Using DEA and Logistic Regression Model (DEA와 로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용한 자동차부품기업의 효율성 분석 및 재무전략)

  • This study applied DEA analysis to measure the relative efficiency of 35 companies that produce automobile body components. First, the input and output, the improvement target value of the calculated variables, and the reference group for benchmarking for inefficient groups to become efficient groups were established through DEA analysis. In addition, whether inefficiency was due to technical inefficiency or size was analyzed in connection with the cases of the actual companies through the measurement of scale efficiency. Second, a route for efficiency improvement was derived through DEA-Tier analysis by defining the possible group for benchmarking in actuality within the production industry of automobile body components where the primary cooperative company belonged. Third, the financial variables that generate the difference between efficient and inefficient groups were derived through logistic regression analysis. Financial strategies that determine the direction the indices should be improved to allow the inefficient group to become an efficient one were recommended. This research is expected to provide diagnostic methods for management efficiency and the direction of improvement to enhance the management efficiency of automotive parts makers by identifying the causes of the inefficiency of domestic automotive parts makers empirically. The study also provides financial strategies together with the target values of efficiency improvement for each individual company.

  • Designer must cope with frequent changes in geometric information of automobile suspension module in the early stage of the design process. The authors developed the PSG(Parametric Set Generator) to create parametric models and to change geometric information concerning the lower arm, which is one of the important parts of the automobile suspension module. CAD models provided from the PSG can be utilized to assess fatigue durability via the FE modeling support system. This system provides easy and fast FE-modeling for a static and durability analysis of the lower arm. The PSG and the FE modeling support system are integrated using the e-engineering framework based on the JADE platform. In this study, a durability analysis as a case study for the lower arm manufactured at H company is performed, and the efficiency obtained is discussed.

  • S-Distribution Center supplies parts to three plants of K-automobile manufacturing company. Since the three plants employ the JIT production system, it is important for S-Distribution Center to deliver small quantities of parts frequently and quickly on time. This paper presents a case study on the improvement of order-picking operation in S-Distribution Center. The study is focused on the reductions of move time and waiting time by redesigning the parts storage location, picking-order terminal location, retrieval policy, and equipment operation policy. The proposed operation system for S-Distribution Center is evaluated through a simple computation analysis and computer simulation. Furthermore, the reducible numbers of equipment and order pickers are investigated by performing a sensitivity analysis.

  • Currently, many companies are trying to be more competitive by implementing the most appropriate software package called ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). ERP can support the company's business process. A manufacturing execution system (MES) is an industrial software system, as well as a manufacturing management function in make-to-order and make-to-stock manufacturing environments. This paper presents an architecture of MES. This study develops MES to identify the functional requirements of loading & scheduling in the automobile industry. This study shows the effectiveness of the proposed MES, how to develop MES and interface with ERP package.

  • The laser strengthening of $35kgf/\textrm{mm}^2$ grade steel sheet is investigated by using $CO_2$ laser beam irradiation. The increase of tensile strength is dominated by the number of fully penetrated melting lines. Also, the optimal laser irradiation pattern is obtained by 3-point bending test. Local laser strengthening clay be effective for the weight reduction of automobile components where the tailored welded blank can not be applied.

  • Various characteristics(thermal expansion, microstructure, etc.) and mechanical properties of CNT-aluminum nano composites manufactured by volume production system were evaluated. Also, formability and durability were evaluated for potential applications in automotive parts, via compared with high-elasticity material (A390) and the current commercial product. As a result, this composite has excellent mechanical properties and formability, therefore, to verity its potential for application as light and high strength materials in automobile part.

A Study on the Catch-Up Strategy of Hyundai·Kia by Comparing and Analyzing the Global Competitiveness with the Three Global Leading Companies (글로벌 3강과 국제경쟁력 비교분석을 통한 현대·기아차의 추격전략 연구)

  • The objective of the study is to propose the catch-up strategy of Hyundai Kia to become the globally leading company in the automobile industry. For this, we try to compare Hyundai Kia with three leading automobile companies: Toyota, VW, and GM by using the Generalized Double Diamond Model. As a result, we present three ways that Hyundai Kia can become a "First Mover." The three strategies are : 1) controlling increase of wage, raising productivity, and increasing R&D investment 2) increasing overseas investment of the small and medium sized automobile factories 3) pursuing the two tracks strategy of a public car and a prestige car more aggressively. This study is significant in the fact that it presents the catch-up strategy of Hyundai Kia in the automobile industry, of which the leaders can not be changed easily, by the Generalized Double Diamond Model approach.
