  • This paper proposes a statistical-based linguistic methodology for automatic mapping between large-scale heterogeneous languages resources for NLP applications in general. As a particular case, it treats automatic mapping between two large-scale heterogeneous Korean language resources: Sejong Semantic Classes (SJSC) in the Sejong Electronic Dictionary (SJD) and nouns in KorLex. KorLex is a large-scale Korean WordNet, but it lacks syntactic information. SJD contains refined semantic-syntactic information, with semantic labels depending on SJSC, but the list of its entry words is much smaller than that of KorLex. The goal of our study is to build a rich language resource by integrating useful information within SJD into KorLex. In this paper, we use both linguistic and statistical methods for constructing an automatic mapping methodology. The linguistic aspect of the methodology focuses on the following three linguistic clues: monosemy/polysemy of word forms, instances (example words), and semantically related words. The statistical aspect of the methodology uses the three statistical formulae ${\chi}^2$, Mutual Information and Information Gain to obtain candidate synsets. Compared with the performance of manual mapping, the automatic mapping based on our proposed statistical linguistic methods shows good performance rates in terms of correctness, specifically giving recall 0.838, precision 0.718, and F1 0.774.

  • Artificial intelligence-based natural language processing technology is playing an important role in helping users write English-language documents. For academic documents in particular, the English proofreading services should reflect the academic characteristics using formal style and technical terms. But the services usually does not because they are based on general English sentences. In addition, since existing studies are mainly for improving the grammatical completeness, there is a limit of fluency improvement. This study proposes an automatic academic English editing methodology to deliver the clear meaning of sentences based on the use of technical terms. The proposed methodology consists of two phases: misspell correction and fluency improvement. In the first phase, appropriate corrective words are provided according to the input typo and contexts. In the second phase, the fluency of the sentence is improved based on the automatic post-editing model of the bidirectional recurrent neural network that can learn from the pair of the original sentence and the edited sentence. Experiments were performed with actual English editing data, and the superiority of the proposed methodology was verified.

  • This paper presents a methodology for determining machining conditions in Electric Discharge Wire-Cut. Unification of two phase neural network approach with an automatic generation of machining parameters is designed. The first phase neural network, which is 1 to M backward-mapping neural net, produces approximate machining conditions. Using approximate conditions, all possible conditions are newly created by the proposed automatic generation procedure. The second phase neural net, which is a M to 1 forward-mapping neural net, determines the best one among the generated candidates. Simulation results with ANN are given to verify that the presenting methodology could apply for determining machining parameters in Electric Discharge Wire-Cut.

  • Korean government has constructed a nationwide cadastral map database through the cadastral map computerization project and also produced a variety of spatial data through the NGIS (National Geographic Information Systems) project. Under this circumstance, it is needed to set up the new automatic methodology that effectively solve cadastral non-coincidence problems by using various digital map data instead of expensive field survey methods. This study proposed a new automatic methodology for cadastral non-coincidence surveying and developed a prototype system as a proof of concept. Validation of this proposed method was done with some test areas. Results showed that this methodology could easily detect and assess both regional non-coincidence levels and cadastral map quadrangle non-coincidence levels. We expect that this new methodology can provide many benefits in planning and determining work priority of the forthcoming nationwide cadastral re-surveying project.

  • The enumerative classification schemes do not represent the tiny mass of knowledge embodied in a article in a periodical or in a chapter or a paragraph of a book. But today's information centers regard a tiny spot of knowledge embodied in a article as a class. we call this micro-thought. But the enumerative classification are manual systems, it cannot be a n.0, pplied to the automation of classification. The purpose of this study is to build a general principle for the automatic book-classification which can be put to use in library operation, and to present a methodology of the automatic classification for the library. The methodology used is essentially theoretical, Published works by and about Ranganathan, especially 6th edition of the CC were studied, analyzed. The principle of automatic book classification derived from the analysis of colon classification and facet combinations. The results of this study can be summarized as follows ; (1) This study confined the fields of library science and agriculture. (2) This study represent a general principles for the automatic book classification of library science and agriculture. (3) Program flowcharts are designed as a basis of system analysis and program procedure in library science and agriculture. (4) The principles of the automatic classification in library, science is different from that of agriculture. • Even though the number of CO poisoning casualties caused by unintended idling for the vehicles equipped with keyless ignition systems is more than 70, the problem still remains unsolved and became social issue in the US, and Senates introduced the bill which urges NHSTA to make regulation for this accordingly. To meet market safety needs and the regulations, we decided to provide automatic shut-off system very soon. In this paper, we would like to describe how to validate vehicle shut-off timing including defining required tests and case selections considering vehicle condition, garage/room size and temperatures with several assumptions. We believe that safe implementation of the shut-off function is possible via this methodology and the results. As NHTSA must be interested in shut-off timing, the methodology can be enhanced and conclusions could be reflected highly in the future regulation in case we continue this study with NHTSA or any other 3-rd party institutes.

  • Recent advanced sensors and communication technologies have been widely applied to advanced safety vehicle (ASV) for reducing traffic accident and injury severity. To apply the advanced safety vehicle technologies, it is important to quantify the safety benefits, which is a fundamental for justifying application. This study proposed a methodology for quantifying the effectiveness of the advanced driver assistant system (ADAS), and applied the methodology to lane departure warning system (LDWS) and automatic emergency braking system (AEBS) which are typical advanced driver assistant systems. When the proposed methodology is applied to 2008-2010 gyeonggi-province crash data, LDWS would reduce about 10~14% of relevant crashes such as head-on, run-off-the road, rollover and fixed-object collisions on the road. In addition, AEBS could potentially prevent about 50% of total rear-end crashes. The outcomes of this study support decision making for developing not only vehicular technology but also relevant safety policies.

  • This paper proposes a methodology for automatic hierarchy classification of subtitles in a engineering document by the a fact that heading symbols of subtitles represent a hierarchical structure of the document. The proposed methodology is composed of two methods: extracting subtitles from plan text document and determining hierarchical structure of the subtitles. The subtitles in a document is extracted by comparing heading symbol patterns with predefined heading symbol groups, and the depth levels of the subtitles are determined by analyzing relative location of subtitles according to change of the heading symbol patterns. A prototype module, which can transform a plain text document into a structured XML document in accordance with a hierarchical structure of subtitles, is developed based on the proposed methodology, and the performance of the module is analyzed with 20 engineering documents.

  • A full automatic interpretation of awake electroencephalogram (EEG) had been developed by the authors and presented at the past KACCs in series. The automatic EEG interpretation consists of four main parts: quantitative EEG interpretation, EEG report making, preprocessing of EEG data and adaptable EEG interpretation. The automatic EEG interpretation reveals essentially the same findings as the electroencephalographer's (EEG's), and then would be applicable in clinical use as an assistant tool for EEGer. The method had been developed through collaboration works between the engineering field (Saga University) and the medical field (Kyoto University). This work can be understood as an artificial realization of human expert skill. The procedure for the artificial realization was summarized in a methodology for artificial realization of human skill which will be applicable in other fields of systems control.
