  • The PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller is widely used in the industries for more than fifty years with the well known Ziegler-Nichols tuning method and others varieties. However, most of the PID controller being used in the real practice still require trial and error adjustment for each process after the tuning method is done, which is consuming of time and needs the operator experiences to obtain the best results for the controller parameter. In order to reduce the inconvenience in the controller tuning, this paper presents a design of an automatic PID controller parameter analyzer being used as a support instrument in the industrial process control. This analyzer is designed based on the tuning formula of Dahlin to synthesize the PID controller parameter. Using this analyzer, the time to be spent in the trial and error procedures and its complexity can be neglected. Experimental results using PID controller parameter synthesized from this analyzer to the liquid level control plant model and the fluid flow control plant model show that the responses of the controlled systems can be efficiently controlled without any difficulty in mathemathical computation.

  • The study is concerned with the thermo-viscoplastic finite element analysis of axisymmetric forward hot extrusion through square dies. The problem is treated as a nonsteady state problem because the distribution of temperature and material properties are continuously changing with the punch travel. In square die extrusion, difficulties arise from the severe distortion and die interference of elements at the aperture rim of the die even with a small punch travel. And finite element computation is impossible without intermittent remeshing. Accordingly, an automatic remeshing technique is proposed by employing specially designed mesh structure near the aperture rim. The analysis of temperature distribution includes heat conduction through material interfaces, heat convection and radiation to the atmosphere and is carried out by decoupling the heat analysis from the analysis of the deformation. The extrusion load and the distributions of strain rate and temperature are computed for the given cases rendering reasonable results. Computed grid distortions are found to be in good agreement with the experimental results. It has been thus shown that the proposed method of analysis can be effectively applied to the axisymmetric hot extrusion through square dies.

  • To enhance the automatic performance of existing predicting and planning algorithms that require a predefined probability of the states' transition, this paper proposes a multiple sequence generation system. When interacting with unknown environments, a virtual agent needs to decide which action or action order can result in a good state and determine the transition probability based on the current state and the action taken. We describe a sequential behavior generation method motivated from the change in the agent's state in order to help the virtual agent learn how to adapt to unknown environments. In a sequence learning process, the sensed states are grouped by a set of proposed motivation filters in order to reduce the learning computation of the large state space. In order to accomplish a goal with a high payoff, the learning agent makes a decision based on the observation of states' transitions. The proposed multiple sequence behaviors generation system increases the complexity and heightens the automatic planning of the virtual agent for interacting with the dynamic unknown environment. This model was tested in a virtual library to elucidate the process of the system.

  • Automatic modulation classification is essential in radar emitter identification. We propose a cascade classifier by combining a support vector machine (SVM) and convolutional neural network (CNN), considering that noise might be taken as radar signals. First, the SVM distinguishes noise signals by the main ridge slice feature of signals. Second, the complex envelope features of the predicted radar signals are extracted and placed into a designed CNN, where a modulation classification task is performed. Simulation results show that the SVM-CNN can effectively distinguish radar signals from noise. The overall probability of successful recognition (PSR) of modulation is 98.52% at 20 dB and 82.27% at -2 dB with low computation costs. Furthermore, we found that the accuracy of intermediate frequency estimation significantly affects the PSR. This study shows the possibility of training a classifier using complex envelope features. What the proposed CNN has learned can be interpreted as an equivalent matched filter consisting of a series of small filters that can provide different responses determined by envelope features.

  • The facial recognition algorithms using Gabor wavelet based face graph produce very good performance while they have some weakness such as a large amount of computation and an irregular result depend on initial location. We proposed a fully automatic facial recognition algorithm using a Gabor feature based geometric deformable face graph matching. The initial location and size of a face graph can be selected using Adaboost detection results for speed-up. To find the best face graph with the face model graph by updating the size and location of the graph, the geometric transformable parameters are defined. The best parameters for an optimal face graph are derived using an optimization technique. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can produce very good performance with recognition rate 96.7% and recognition speed 0.26 sec for FERET database.

  • Obesity is increasing in our country due to lack of lifestyle and physical activity. Semi-automatic program is used in existing fat calculation program using computed tomography. Although methods for solving related problems have been proposed, this study proposes an algorithm using morphology operation and We want to solve the problem with a new method that has a simple procedure and a relatively small amount of computation. As a result of repetition of erosion and expansion Automatic fat mass calculation can be done in the future by using the developed partitioning result. By providing an accurate segmentation tool, it will be helpful to doctors and reduce the expense and inspection cost of retesting. through morphology operation, it was found that the problem was solved from the image.Automatic fat mass calculation can be done in the future by using the developed partitioning result. • This paper introduces robust tracking algorithm for fast and erratic moving object. CAMSHIFT algorithm has less computation and efficient performance for object tracking. However, the method fails to track a object if it moves out of search window by fast velocity and/or large movement. The size of the search window in CAMSHIFT algorithm should be selected manually also. To solve these problems, we propose an efficient prediction technique for fast movement of object using Kalman Filter with automatic initial setting and variable configuration technique for search window. The proposed method is compared to the traditional CAMSHIFT algorithm for searching and tracking performance of objects on test image frames.

  • We present a novel method for real-time automatic license plate detection in high-resolution videos. Although there have been extensive studies of license plate detection since the 1970s, the suggested approaches resulting from such studies have difficulties in processing high-resolution imagery in real-time. Herein, we propose a novel cascade structure, the fastest classifier available, by rejecting false positives most efficiently. Furthermore, we train the classifier using the core patterns of various types of license plates, improving both the computation load and the accuracy of license plate detection. To show its superiority, our approach is compared with other state-of-the-art approaches. In addition, we collected 20,000 images including license plates from real traffic scenes for comprehensive experiments. The results show that our proposed approach significantly reduces the computational load in comparison to the other state-of-the-art approaches, with comparable performance accuracy.

  • An important issue in the field of face recognitions and man-machine interfaces is an automatic detection of faces in visual scenes. it should be computationally fast enough to allow an online detection. In this paper we describe our ongoing work on face detection that models the face appearance by edge orientation and color distribution. We show that edge orientation is a powerful feature to describe objects like faces. We present a method for face region detection using edge orientation and a method for face feature detection using local color information. We demonstrate the capability of our detection method on an image database of 1877 images taken from more than 700 people. The variations in head size, lighting and background are considerable, and all images are taken using low-end cameras. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme achieves 94% detection rate with a resonable amount of computation time.

  • Deforming mesh should be used when bodies are deforming or moving relative to each other due to the presence of aerodynamic forces and moments. Also, the flow solver for such a flow problem should satisfy the geometric conservation law to ensure the accuracy of the solutions. In this paper, a RANS(Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) solver including automatic mesh capability using TFI(Transfinite Interpolation) method and GCL is developed and applied to flows induced by oscillating wings with given frequencies. The computations are performed both on deforming meshes and on rigid meshes. The computational results are compared with experimental data, which shows a good agreement.
