With the increased use of the internet and the tremendous amount of data it transfers, it is more necessary to summarize documents. We propose a new method using the Non-negative Semantic Variable Matrix (NSVM) and the generic important of semantic features obtained by Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) to extract the sentences for automatic generic summarization. The proposed method use non-negative constraints which is more similar to the human's cognition process. As a result, the proposed method selects more meaningful sentences for summarization than the unsupervised method used the Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) or clustering methods. The experimental results show that the proposed method archives better performance than other methods.

Automatic text summarization is a procedure that packs enormous content into a more limited book that incorporates significant data. Malayalam is one of the toughest languages utilized in certain areas of India, most normally in Kerala and in Lakshadweep. Natural language processing in the Malayalam language is relatively low due to the complexity of the language as well as the scarcity of available resources. In this paper, a way is proposed to deal with the text summarization process in Malayalam documents by training a model based on the Support Vector Machine classification algorithm. Different features of the text are taken into account for training the machine so that the system can output the most important data from the input text. The classifier can classify the most important, important, average, and least significant sentences into separate classes and based on this, the machine will be able to create a summary of the input document. The user can select a compression ratio so that the system will output that much fraction of the summary. The model performance is measured by using different genres of Malayalam documents as well as documents from the same domain. The model is evaluated by considering content evaluation measures precision, recall, F score, and relative utility. Obtained precision and recall value shows that the model is trustable and found to be more relevant compared to the other summarizers.
Generative Text Summarization is one of the Natural Language Processing tasks. It generates a short abbreviated summary while preserving the content of the long text. ROUGE is a widely used lexical-overlap based metric for text summarization models in generative summarization benchmarks. Although it shows very high performance, the studies report that 30% of the generated summary and the text are still inconsistent. This paper proposes a methodology for evaluating the performance of the summary model without using the correct summary. AggreFACT is a human-annotated dataset that classifies the types of errors in neural text summarization models. Among all the test candidates, the two cases, generation summary, and when errors occurred throughout the summary showed the highest correlation results. We observed that the proposed evaluation score showed a high correlation with models finetuned with BART and PEGASUS, which is pretrained with a large-scale Transformer structure.
To delve into the semantic gap problem of the automatic video summarization, we focused on an endogenous ERP responses at around 400ms and 600ms after the on-set of audio-visual stimulus. Our experiment included two factors: the topic exploration of experimental conditions (Topic Given vs. Topic Exploring) as a between-subject factor and the topic relevance of the shots (Topic-Relevant vs. Topic-Irrelevant) as a within-subject factor. For the Topic Given condition of 22 subjects, 6 short historical documentaries were shown with their video titles and written summaries, while in the Topic Exploring condition of 25 subjects, they were asked instead to explore topics of the same videos with no given information. EEG data were gathered while they were watching videos in real time. It was hypothesized that the cognitive activities to explore topics of videos while watching individual shots increase the amplitude of endogenous ERP at around 600 ms after the onset of topic relevant shots. The amplitude of endogenous ERP at around 400ms after the onset of topic-irrelevant shots was hypothesized to be lower in the Topic Given condition than that in the Topic Exploring condition. The repeated measure MANOVA test revealed that two hypotheses were acceptable.
Music summarization refers to a technique which automatically extracts the most important and representative segments in music content. In this paper, we propose and evaluate a technique which provides the repeated part in music content as music summary. For extracting a repeated segment in music content, the proposed algorithm uses the weighted sum of similarity measures based on multi-level vector quantization for fixed-length summary or optimal-length summary. For similarity measures, count-based similarity measure and distance-based similarity measure are proposed. The number of the same codeword and the Mahalanobis distance of features which have same codeword at the same position in segments are used for count-based and distance-based similarity measure, respectively. Fixed-length music summary is evaluated by measuring the overlapping ratio between hand-made repeated parts and automatically generated ones. Optimal-length music summary is evaluated by calculating how much automatically generated music summary includes repeated parts of the music content. From experiments we observed that optimal-length summary could capture the repeated parts in music content more effectively in terms of summary length than fixed-length summary.
Music is now digitally produced and distributed via internet and we face a huge amount of music day by day. A music summarization technology has been studied in order to help people concentrate on the most impressive section of the song andone can skim a song as listening the climax(chorus, refrain) only. Recent studies try to find the climax section using various methods such as finding diagonal line segment or kernel based segmentation. All these methods fail to capture the inherent structure of music due to polyphonic and noisy nature of music. In this paper, after applying moving average filter to time domain of MFCC/chroma feature, we achieved a remarkable result to capture the music structure.
This paper describes an automatic summarization approach that constructs a summary by extracting sentences that are likely to represent the main theme of a document. As a way of selecting summary sentences, the system uses a model that takes into account lexical and statistical information obtained from a document corpus. As such, the system consists of two parts: the training part and the summarization part. The former processes sentences that have been manually tagged for summary sentences and extracts necessary statistical information of various kinds, and the latter uses the information to calculate the likelihood that a given sentence is to be included in the summary. There are at least three unique aspects of this research. First of all, the system uses a text component identification model to categorize sentences into one of the text components. This allows us to eliminate parts of text that are not likely to contain summary sentences. Second, although our statistically-based model stems from an existing one developed for English texts, it applies the framework to individual features separately and computes the final score for each sentence by combining the pieces of evidence using the Dempster-Shafer combination rule. Third, not only were new features introduced but also all the features were tested for their effectiveness in the summarization framework.

Two fundamental aspects of speech summary generation are the extraction of key speech content and the style of presentation of the extracted speech synopses. We first investigated whether acoustic features (speaking rate, pitch pattern, and intensity) are equally important and, if not, which one can be effectively modeled to compute the significance of segments for lecture summarization. As a result, we found that the intensity (that is, difference between max DB and min DB) is the most efficient factor for speech summarization. We evaluated the intensity-based method of using the difference between max-DB and min-DB by comparing it to the keyword-based method in terms of which method produces better speech summaries and of how similar weight values assigned to segments by two methods are. Then, we investigated the way to present speech summaries to the viewers. As such, for speech summarization, we suggested how to extract key segments from a speech video efficiently using acoustic features and then present the extracted segments to the viewers.
'Semantic gap' has been a year-old problem in automatic video summarization, which refers to the gap between semantics implied in video summarization algorithms and what people actually infer from watching videos. Using the external EEG bio-feedback obtained from video watchers as a solution of this semantic gap problem has several another issues: First, how to define and measure noises against ERP waveforms as signals. Second, whether individual differences among subjects in terms of noise and SNR for conventional ERP studies using still images captured from videos are the same with those differently conceptualized and measured from videos. Third, whether individual differences of subjects by noise and SNR levels help to detect topic-irrelevant shots as signals which are not matched with subject's own semantic topical expectations (mis-match negativity at around 400m after stimulus on-sets). The result of repeated measures ANOVA test clearly shows a 2-way interaction effect between topic-relevance and noise level, implying that subjects of low noise level for video watching session are sensitive to topic-irrelevant visual shots, while showing another 3-way interaction among topic-relevance, noise and SNR levels, implying that subjects of high noise level are sensitive to topic-irrelevant visual shots only if they are of low SNR level.

This paper presents an automatic text summarization model which selects representative sentences from sentence clusters to create a summary. Summary generation experiments were performed on two sets of test documents after learning the optimum environment from a training set. Centroid clustering method turned out to be the most effective in clustering sentences, and sentence weight was found more effective than the similarity value between sentence and cluster centroid vectors in selecting a representative sentence from each cluster. The result of experiments also proves that inverse sentence weight as well as title word weight for terms and location weight for sentences are effective in improving the performance of summarization.
