Optimal Control Design for Automatic Ship Berthing by Using Bow and Stern Thrusters

  • Conventionally, because it is difficult to control a ship in shallow water and because attempting to do so creates unwanted environmental effects, maneuvering ships in the harbor area for berthing is usually done with the assistance of tugboats. In this paper, we propose a new method for berthing ships automatically by using bow and stern thrusters. Specifically, a steering motion model of a ship is considered, and parameters in the equation are evaluated by the system identification technique. An optimal controller based on observations was designed from the linearization of the non-linear ship motion in the horizontal plane. It is used to reduce the uncertainty about the ship's dynamics and reduce measurement requirements. The performance of the controller was also analyzed for its robustness relative to avoiding disturbing the environment due to winds, currents, and wave-drift forces. Experiments were conducted to estimate the potential for identifying result and the design of the controller. Specifically, in this paper, the system modeling and tracking control approach are discussed based on a two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) servo-system design.

An Estimation Model of Historical Cost Using BIM Library for Road Project (도로분야 BIM 라이브러리를 활용한 실적공사비 산정모델 구축)

  • Currently, a BIM-based quantity takeoff (QTO) system is mainly focused on architectural projects. To perform this, diverse quantity takeoff methods such as an object-based automatic quantity takeoff, manual quantity and base functions of calculation have widely been utilizing. However, since BIM library for road projects includes structural elements associated with alignment, it is necessary to establish cost estimation system interlocked with historical cost using 3D library by each unit length. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to develop cost estimation model with using a historical cost approach so that it can be utilized in construction planning based on the BIM library for road projects. For this, based on the BIM library for road, the standardized quantity is estimated, and a process for calculating historical cost and a verification model with a 5D simulation was developed by mapping a WBS code with each BIM library object. This can be applied during the approximate cost estimation process in a project planning and an initial design phase for road projects. Besides, it is expected that these results will be utilized in constructing an optimal historical cost estimation process for project libraries.

  • A computer program for automatic deriving the symbolic equations of motion for robots using the programming language MATHEMATICA has been developed. The program, developed based on the Lagrange formalism, is applicable to the closed chain robots as well as the open chain robots. The closed chains are virtually cut open, and the kinematics and dynamics of the virtual open chain robot are analyzed. The constraints are applied to the virtually cut joints. As a result, the spatial closed chain robot can be considered as a tree structured open chain robot with kinematic constraints. The topology of tree structured open chain robot is described by a FATHER array. The FATHER array of a link indicates the link that is connected in the direction of base link. The constraints are represented by Lagrange multipliers. The parallel robot, DELTA, having three-dimensional closed chains is modeled and simulated to illustrate the approach.

Locally-Weighted Polynomial Neural Network for Daily Short-Term Peak Load Forecasting

  • Electric load forecasting is essential for effective power system planning and operation. Complex and nonlinear relationships exist between the electric loads and their exogenous factors. In addition, time-series load data has non-stationary characteristics, such as trend, seasonality and anomalous day effects, making it difficult to predict the future loads. This paper proposes a locally-weighted polynomial neural network (LWPNN), which is a combination of a polynomial neural network (PNN) and locally-weighted regression (LWR) for daily shortterm peak load forecasting. Model over-fitting problems can be prevented effectively because PNN has an automatic structure identification mechanism for nonlinear system modeling. LWR applied to optimize the regression coefficients of LWPNN only uses the locally-weighted learning data points located in the neighborhood of the current query point instead of using all data points. LWPNN is very effective and suitable for predicting an electric load series with nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics. To confirm the effectiveness, the proposed LWPNN, standard PNN, support vector regression and artificial neural network are applied to a real world daily peak load dataset in Korea. The proposed LWPNN shows significantly good prediction accuracy compared to the other methods.

Measurement of Electron Density and Electron-neutral Collision Frequency Using Cutoff Probe Based on the Plasma Reactance Measurement

  • We proposed a new measurement method of cutoff probe using the reactance spectrum of the plasma in cutoff probe system instead of transmission spectrum. The high accurate reactance spectrum of the plasma which is expected in previous circuit simulation of cutoff probe [1] was measured by using the automatic port extension method of the network analyzer. The measured reactance spectrum is good agreement with E/M wave simulation result (CST Microwave Studio). From the analysis of the measured reactance spectrum based on the circuit modeling, not only the electron density but also electron-neutral collision frequency can be simply obtained. The obtained results of electron density and e-n collision frequency were presented and discussed in wide range of experimental conditions, together with comparison result with previous methods (a previous cutoff probe using transmission spectrum and a single langmuir probe).

  • This paper presents the induced mathematical modeling equations for evaluating the operation stability with automatic transmission of heavy duty vehicle. This theoretical approach indicates that linearized governing equations of system can be converted into eigen-value problems. if the eigen-value has positive number, we can predict the engine operating point locates an unstable operating region. To be a stable state, the unstable operating point diverges toward a stable point which is able to maintain uniform velocity. Based on the previous theoretical analysis, we carry out dynamic simulation to show the behavior of engine operating point and torque converter in transient state. As a result of the dynamic simulation, the suggested theoretical method is found to be reasonable for evaluating the operation stability of a torque converter. In addition, the numerical results explain the engine stops and fluctuating phenomenon in reality.

  • 시간 흐름에 따라 TV 프로그램 스케줄은 변화하고 스케줄의 변화는 사용자 선호에 영향을 미친다. 이러한 스케줄 변화에 따른 토픽의 흐름이 사용자 선호도에 미치는 영향 외에도, 개성에 따른 선호도의 변화는 개인별 차이가 크다. 본 논문은 사용자 선호도 변화에 적응적으로 대응하면서 시간 변화에도 일정한 관심을 보이는 사용자의 선호도에는 가중치를 더한 모델을 목표로 한다. 따라서 제안 모델은 현재의 시청 데이터를 기준으로 한 사용자별 선호도의 선행 정보(prior)로 이전 시청선호를 두었고, 선호도 변화와 일관성을 고려하여 하나의 시청길이에 대한 선호도뿐만 아니라 여러 시청 길이의 선호도를 결합한 선호도를 구성할 수 있는 확장성 있는 모델을 제시한다. 선호도의 일관성에 대한 가중치 연산에 있어 전체 확률모델의 확률을 향상시키는 연산을 통해 정교성을 더한 모델을 제시한다. 실제 사용자들이 시청한 데이터인 2011 TNMS데이터를 기준으로 제안 모델의 성능을 확인한 결과, 기존의 LDA, MDTM모델 보다 나은 성능을 보임을 확인할 수 있었으며, 1주일 단위 추천결과, 5개 추천 시, 최대 67.9%의 추천 정확도를 확인할 수 있었다.

Generation of Video Clips Utilizing Shot Boundary Detection (샷 경계 검출을 이용한 영상 클립 생성)

  • Video indexing plays an important role in the applications such as digital video libraries or web VOD which archive large volume of digital videos. Video indexing is usually based on video segmentation. In this paper, we propose a software tool called V2Web Studio which can generate video clips utilizing shot boundary detection algorithm. With the V2Web Studio, the process of clip generation consists of the following four steps: 1) Automatic detection of shot boundaries by parsing the video, 2) Elimination of errors by manually verifying the results of the detection, 3) Building a modeling structure of logical hierarchy using the verified shots, and 4) Generating multiple video clips corresponding to each logically modeled segment. The aforementioned steps are performed by shot detector, shot verifier, video modeler and clip generator in the V2Web Studio respectively.

  • In this paper, we have measured eletromagnetic noises from eletcric trains and the measurment data are treated statisticlly for monig. In order to measure the noise of electric tran, we set up an automatic measuring system andd measured the magnetic field over 9 kHz ~ 30 MHz range and electric field over 30 MHz - 1, 000 MHz range. The computer controlled measurint system yields efficiently experimental APD (Amplitude Probability distribution) data each of national rail road and subway train. The measured APD curves are analysed in terms of sensitivity study of Middleton's model through 6-parameter variation. Optimal parameters are obtained from measured data using Composite Approximation Algorithm.

  • In this paper, a 3-dimensional ship structural model which includes the longitudinals and stiffeners is constructed. This model can be constructed from the well-defined data structure which represents the ship structural members and their relationship. So the object-oriented concept for the data structure is introduced. The structural analysis model is automatically generated by extracting the necessary information for structural analysis from the ship structural model : Users need to handle the ship structural model only when any design change occurs because the structural analysis model is automatically generated.
