  • An automatic transmission, which consists of several decks of planetary gear sets, provides multiple speed and torque ratios by actuating brakes and clutches (mechanical friction components) for connecting central members of the planetary gear sets. The gear set consists of the sun gear, the ring gear, and the carrier supporting multiple planet gears with pin shafts. In designing a new automatic transmission, there are many steps to design and analyze: gears, brakes and clutches, shafts, and other mechanical components. Among them, selecting thrust bearings that not only allow the relative rotation of the central members and other mechanical components but also support axial forces coming from them is important; doing so yields superior driving performance and better fuel efficiency. In selecting thrust bearings, the magnitude of axial forces on them is a critical factor that affects their bearing size and performance; its results are systematically related to the direction of the helical angle of each planetary gear set (a geometric design profile). This research presents the effects of the helical angle direction on the axial forces acting on thrust bearings in an automatic transmission consisting of planetary gear sets. A model transmission was built by analyzing kinematics and power flows and by designing planetary gear sets. The results of the axial forces on thrust bearings were analyzed for all combinations of helix angle directions of the planetary gear sets.

  • When many holes on a plane are machined simultaneously, the positional precision and machining efficiency are very important. Multi-spindle heads are typical order making products of which the number of shafts and hole positions vary depending on the size or form of the product. For the automatic design of multi-spindle heads, the design modules for power transmission systems for drive, idle, and spindle shafts were developed, and a design technique the determining the optimum position and number of idle shafts according to gear positions was developed. In addition, for the precise determination of the multi-spindle head, the design methods for the guide planes of columns, and feed mechanisms were devised. In addition, the design modules for accurate clamping and automatic transportation mechanisms were developed. Finally, in order to simplify and standardize the design process, the design analysis and simulation verification modules are integrated.

  • In order to minimize straightness error of deflected shafts, a automatically bending process control system is designed, fabricated, and studied. The multi-step straightening process and the three-point bending process are developed for the geometric adaptive straightness control. Load-deflection relationship, on-line identification of variations of material properties, on-line springback prediction, and studied for the three-point bending processes. Selection of a loading point supporting condition are derved form fuzzy inference and fuzzy self-learning method in the multi-step straighternign process. Automatic straightening machine is fabricated by using the develped ideas. Validity of the proposed system si verified through experiments.

  • In the semiconductor manufacturing, yield enhancement is an urgent issue. It is ideal to prevent all the failures. However, when a failure occurs, it is important to quickly specify the cause stage and take countermeasure. Reviewing wafer level and composite lot level yield patterns has always been an effective way of identifying yield inhibitors and driving process improvement. This process is very time consuming and as such generally occurs only when the overall yield of a device has dropped significantly enough to warrant investigation. The automatic method of failure pattern extraction from fail bit map provides reduced time to analysis and facilitates yield enhancement.   • The automatic welding systems, have received much attention in recent years, because they are highly suitable not only to increase the quality and productivity, but also to decrease manufacturing time and cost for a given product. Automatic welding work in semiconductor or space industry to be carried out in pipe line and butt joint mostly and plasma arc welding(PAW) is actively applied. To get the desired quality welds in automated welding system is challenging, a mathematical model is needed that has complete control over the relevant process parameters in order to obtain the required mechanical properties. However, In various industries the welding process mathematical model is not fully formulated for the process parameter and on the welding conditions, therefore only partial variables can be predicted. Therefore, this paper investigates the interaction between the welding parameters and mechanical properties for predicting the weld bead geometry by analyzing the S/N ratio.

쾌속조형기에 의한 기어식 주유장치의 개발 (Development of gear type grease lubricator by rapid prototyping)

  • An automatic grease lubricator provides an adequate amount of fresh grease constantly to any type of rotating machine to minimize friction heat and reduce friction loss. This study seeks to develop an automatic grease lubricator by means of rapid prototyping with a gear-driven mechanism and a controlled operation time. The ultimate design is to lubricate an adequate amount of grease by a simple dip-switch clicking mechanism according to an advanced set cycle. The backlash of the gear was minimized to increase the power, and to increase the power of the mechanism, the binding frequency and the thickness of the coil were changed. To control the rotation cycles of the main shaft according to certain set numbers, different resistances and chips were used in the design of the circuit which controls the electrical signals via a pulse. A digital mock-up was analyzed and the rapid prototyping (RP) trial products were tested with a PCB circuit and grease. An evaluation of the outlet capacity of RP trial products was conducted, as the friction caused by the outlet on the wall surface was an important factor in the operation of the equipment. Finally, a finishing process was applied to decrease the roughness of a surface to a comparable level to test the performance of the product.

  • Constructing structures is the basic process requiring establishment of grounds. However, cracks due to sinking and distorting ground influence directly on the safety of structural health. Vibrating wire sensor measures the crack of structure by detecting the differences of wire tensions in analogue manner. In the previous production process, the tension is adjusted manually measuring the frequency of vibrating wire. Therefore, the accuracy of a sensor was depends on the skill level of labor. In this study, the automatic tension control and fixing devise is developed to enhance both accuracy and productivity. To evaluate the performance of the vibrating wire sensor, the nonlinearity of sensor is measured. The automatic tension control and fixing devise enhances the nonlinearity of the sensor from 0.398 to 0.056%. Therefore, the accuracy of the newly proposed method is successful.

  • The design process must be planned carefully and executed systematically in order to support designers who are faced with many engineering design problems. In particular, conceptual design stage is very important than other stages such as detailed design or manufacturing stage on designing engineering systems. When designers are faced contradictory situation in task, conceptual design usually requires inventive thinking which depends on their creativity. And in order to develop good concepts, it is necessary to resolve contradictory situations during conceptual design. This paper presents a structure of systematic conceptual design process for designing engineering systems. And we developed the automatic feeding screw device using the proposed design process structure.
