Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop an automated software to extract tooth and pulpal area from sectional cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images, which can guarantee more reproducible, objective and time-saving way to measure pulp/tooth volume ratio. Methods: The software program was developed using MATLAB (MathWorks). To determine the optimal threshold for the region of interest (ROI) extraction, user interface to adjust the threshold for extraction algorithm was added. Default threshold was determined after several trials to make the outline of extracted ROI fitting to the tooth and pulpal outlines. To test the effect of starting point location selected initially in the pulpal area on the final result, pulp/tooth volume ratio was calculated 5 times with different 5 starting points. Results: Navigation interface is composed of image loading, zoom-in, zoom-out, and move tool. ROI extraction process can be shown by check in the option box. Default threshold is adjusted for the extracted tooth area to cover whole tooth including dentin, cementum, and enamel. Of course, the result can be corrected, if necessary, by the examiner as well as by changing the threshold of density of hard tissue. Extracted tooth and pulp area are reconstructed three-dimensional (3D) and pulp/tooth volume ratio is calculated by voxel counting on reconstructed model. The difference between the pulp/tooth volume ratio results from the 5 different extraction starting points was not significant. Conclusions: In further studies based on a large-scale sample, the most proper threshold to present the most significant relationship between age and pulp/tooth volume ratio and the tooth correlated with age the most will be explored. If the software can be improved to use whole CBCT data set rather than just sectional images and to detect pulp canal in the original 3D images generated by CBCT software itself, it will be more promising in practical uses.
A computational color palette extraction model is introduced to describe paint brush objectively and efficiently. In this model, a color palette is defined as a minimum set of colors in which a painting can be displayed within error allowance and extracted by the two step processing of color grouping and major color extraction. The color grouping controls the resolution of colors adaptively and produces a basic color set of given painting images. The final palette is obtained from the basic color set by applying weighted k-means clustering algorithm. The extracted palettes from several famous painters are displayed in a 3-D color space to show the distinctive palette styles using RGB and CIE LAB color models individually. And the two experiments of painter classification and color transform of photographic image has been done to check the performance of the proposed method. The results shows the possibility that the proposed palette model can be a computational color analysis metric to describe the paint brush, and can be a color transform tool for computer graphics.
In this paper, we propose an automatic extraction model for unknown translations and implement an unknown translation extraction system using the proposed model. The proposed model as a phrase-alignment model is incorporated with three models: a phrase-boundary model, a language model, and a translation model. Using the proposed model we implement the system for extracting unknown translations, which consists of three parts: construction of parallel corpora, alignment of Korean and English words, extraction of unknown translations. To evaluate the performance of the proposed system, we have established the reference corpus for extracting unknown translation, which comprises of 2,220 parallel sentences including about 1,500 unknown translations. Through several experiments, we have observed that the proposed model is very useful for extracting unknown translations. In the future, researches on objective evaluation and establishment of parallel corpora with good quality should be performed and studies on improving the performance of unknown translation extraction should be kept up.

With the proliferation of artificial intelligence technology, it is becoming important to obtain, store, and utilize scientific data in research and science sectors. A number of methods for extracting meaningful objects such as graphs and tables from research articles have been proposed to eventually obtain scientific data. Existing extraction methods using heuristic approaches are hardly applicable to electronic documents having heterogeneous manuscript formats because they are designed to work properly for some targeted manuscripts. This paper proposes a prototype of an object extraction system which exploits a recent deep-learning technology so as to overcome the inflexibility of the heuristic approaches. We implemented our trained model, based on the Faster R-CNN algorithm, using the Google TensorFlow Object Detection API and also composed an annotated data set from 100 research articles for training and evaluation. Finally, a performance evaluation shows that the proposed system outperforms a comparator adopting heuristic approaches by 5.2%.

Recently, the important of a personal identification is increasing according to expansion using each on-line commercial transaction and personal ID-card. Although a personal ID-card embedded RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) tag is gradually increased, the way for a person's identification is deficiency. So we need automatic methods. Because RFID tag is vary small storage capacity of memory, it needs effective feature extraction method to store personal biometrics information. We need new recognition method to compare each feature. In this paper, we studied the face verification system using Hippocampal neuron modeling algorithm which can remodel the hippocampal neuron as a principle of a man's brain in engineering, then it can learn the feature vector of the face images very fast. and construct the optimized feature each image. The system is composed of two parts mainly. One is feature extraction using NMF(Non-negative Matrix Factorization) and LDA(Linear Discriminants Analysis) mixture algorithm and the other is hippocampal neuron modeling and recognition simulation experiments confirm the each recognition rate, that are face changes, pose changes and low-level quality image. The results of experiments, we can compare a feature extraction and learning method proposed in this paper of any other methods, and we can confirm that the proposed method is superior to the existing method.
Virtual colonoscopy is a non-invasive computerized procedure to detect polyps by examining the colon from a CT data set. To fly through the inside of colons. the extraction of a suitable flight-path is necessary to Provide the viewpoint and view direction of a virtual camera. However. manual path extraction by Picking Points is a very time-consuming and difficult task due 1,c, the long and complex shape of colon. Also, existing automatic methods are computationally complex. and tend to generate an improper and/or discontinuous path for complicated regions. In this paper, we propose a fast flight-path generation algorithm using the distance and order maps. The order map Provides all Possible directions of a path. The distance map assigns the Euclidean distance value from each inside voxel to the nearest background voxel. By jointly using these two maps. we can obtain a proper centerline regardless of thickness and curvature of an object. Also, we Propose a simple smoothing technique that guarantees not to collide with the surface of an object. The phantom and real colon data are used for experiments. Experimental results show that for a set of human colon data, the proposed algorithm can provide a smoothened and connected flight-path within a minute on an 800MHz PC. And it is proved that the obtained flight-Path provides successive volume-rendered images satisfactory for virtual navigation.
High-resolution satellite image mosaics are becoming increasingly important in the field of remote sensing image analysis as an essential image processing to create a large image constructed from several smaller images. In this paper, we present an automatic seamline extraction technique and the procedure to generate a mosaic image by this technique. For more effective seamline extraction in the overlap region of adjacent images, an NDVI-based seamline extraction technique is developed, which takes advantage of the computational time and memory. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) is an index of plant "greeness" or photosynthetic activity that is employed to extract the initial seamline. The NDVI can divide into manmade region and natural region. The cost image is obtained by the canny edge detector and the buffering technique is used to extract the ranging cost image. The seamline is extracted by applying the Dijkstra algorithm to a cost image generated through the labeling process of the extracted edge information. Histogram matching is also conducted to alleviate radiometric distortion between adjacent images acquired at different time. In the experimental results using the KOMPSAT-2/3 satellite imagery, it is confirmed that the proposed method greatly reduces the visual discontinuity caused by geometric difference of adjacent images and the computation time.

Automatic segmentation of foreground from background in video sequences has attracted lots of attention in computer vision. This paper proposes a novel framework for the background subtraction that the foreground is segmented from the background by directly subtracting a background image from each frame. Most previous works focus on the extraction of more reliable seeds with threshold, because the errors are occurred by noise, weak color difference and so on. Our method has good segmentations from the approximate seeds by using the Random Walks with Restart (RWR). Experimental results with live videos demonstrate the relevance and accuracy of our algorithm.
RMSE(Root Mean Square Error), Dynamic range, Coefficient of variation
