The EPIRB overcame the limitations of the conventional marine communication systems, the false distress calls by EPIRB systems internationally account for about 94 percent of the total calls because of the different usages of EPIRB systems with manufacturers, users' errors, and systems' faults. To resolve these problems, international bodies and manufacturers are developing many measures to reduce those error emissions. In conventional systems, the distress call was sent immediately after the EPIRB is removed from the automatic release system. Taking into account the properties of the system, however manufacturers improved the operation so that the distress call is sent only when the EPIRB is released and then immersed into water. In spite of these efforts, the error emissions have not significantly reduced. In this study, the domestic and international technical regulations and standards for the COSPAS-SARSAT and satellite EPIRB systems were reviewed, and a bridge-type water detection sensor was developed to minimize the error emission from EPIRB.

In this study, the crack detecting system with digital image processing techniques based on the mathematical morphology method was developed to detect cracks in concrete structures. In the developed system, the image combining technique of reconstructing multiple images as an entire single image considering efficient management of analysis results was applied as an additional module. The developed system was verified through a field test with the cracked concrete culvert and the crack width of 0.2 mm was able to be detected in the 40m span. In the image analysis, the difference between calculated crack width and actual crack width were less than 0.08mm. For image combination in the stitching test of pattern images, the stitched image was identical with the original picture of entire subject in the visual perception level.

In this paper, a Kalman filter application for GDSS(Group Digital Surveillance System) developed to protect an aquaculture farms is discussed GDSS is composed by a WIWAS(Watching, Identification, Warning, and Action System) and a FDS(Fishery Detection System) that will monitor incoming and outgoing vessels in the aquaculture farms. In the FDS, a tracking function to track vessels without F-AIS(Fishery Automatic Identification System) is needed and the Kalman filter is applied to track vessels around the aquaculture farms. Some simulation results for the multi-objects with white noise is presented and the adaptation possibility for tracking system is discussed.

The on-line detection of the chip flow is one of the most important technologies in com- pletly automatic operation of machine tool, such as FMS and Unmanned Factories. This problem has been studied by many researchers, however, it is not solved as yet. For the recognition of chip flow in this study, the dynamic cutting force components due to the chip breaking were measured by dynamometer of piezo-electric type, and the frequency components of cutting force were also analyzed. From the measured results, the effect of cutting conditions and tool geometry on the dynamic cutting force component and chip formation were investigated in addition to the relationships between frequency of chip breaking (fB) and side serrated crack (fC) of chip. As a result, the following conclusions were obtaianed. 1) The chip formations have a large effect on the dynamic cutting force components. When chip breaking takes place, the dynamic cutting force component greatly increases, and the peridoic components appear, which correspond to maximum peak- frequency. 2) The crater wear of tool has a good effect on the chip control causing the chiup to be formed as upward-curl shape. In this case, the dymamic cutting force component greatly increases also 3) fB and fC of chip are closely corelated, and fC of chips has a large effect on the change of the situation of chip flow and dynamic cutting force component. 4) Under wide cutting conditions, the limit value (1.0 kgf) of dynamic cutting force component exists between the broken and continuous chips. Accordingly, this value is suitable for recognition of chip flow in on-line control of the cutting process.
Total 114 patients were studied prospectively with radioiodine uptake (RAIU) and $^{99m}TcO_4^-$ thyroid scan to design a very simple, rapid and inexpensive method measuring the thyroid uptake on thyroid scan. After the RAIU was obtained at 24 hours after P.O. of $^{131}I$, Thyroid scan was performed at 20 minutes after LV. of $^{99m}TcO_4^-$ and the bilateral salivary glands were included in the scan field. Pinhole collimated and computer assisted gamma camera was used. Three regions of interest were set on each salivary gland and on the thyroid by automatic edge detection method. Mean counts per pixel were calculated for each ROI and the salivary-thyroid ratio (STR) was defined as; $$STR(%)=\frac{Mean\;counts\;per\;pixel\;of\;salivary\;glands\;(KC)}{Mean\;counts\;per\;pixel\;of\;thyroid\;gland\;(KC)}\times100$$ 114 cases consisted of 41 normal, 55 hyperthyroid and 18 hypothyroid patients and correlation between the STR and the RAID were evaluated in total and each group. The STR and the RAID showed reverse linear regression in 114 cases (r= -0.8, P=0) and closer correlation was shown in hyperthyroid group (r= -0_9, p=0). Mean STR in normal group was 47.6%. In predicting the RAID by STR, sensitivity and specificity were 88.3% and 64.9% in 114 cases and 95.3% and 83.3% in hyperthyroid group. It is recommended that the STR be used in place of the RAID giving same information at saving time, money and radiation exposure.

Crowded scenes analysis is a challenging topic in computer vision field. How to detect diverse motion patterns in crowded scenarios from videos is the critical yet hard part of this problem. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to mining motion patterns by utilizing motion information during both long-term period and short interval simultaneously. To capture long-term motions effectively, we introduce Motion History Image (MHI) representation to access to the global perspective about the crowd motion. The combination of MHI and optical flow, which is used to get instant motion information, gives rise to discriminative spatial-temporal motion features. Benefitting from the robustness and efficiency of the novel motion representation, the following motion pattern mining is implemented in a completely unsupervised way. The motion vectors are clustered hierarchically through automatic hierarchical clustering algorithm building on the basis of graphic model. This method overcomes the instability of optical flow in dealing with time continuity in crowded scenes. The results of clustering reveal the situations of motion pattern distribution in current crowded videos. To validate the performance of the proposed approach, we conduct experimental evaluations on some challenging videos including vehicles and pedestrians. The reliable detection results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.
The infection rate of syphilis is still increasing in the world especially in developing countries and the infection is often seen in large amounts of clinical specimens. For the diagnosis of this disease, Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR)/Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) has still been used as one of major primary methods to diagnose syphilis even though the test readings are somewhat subjective with high false positive rates. Recently, the automatic ARCHITECT Syphilis TP, which is based on the detection of the TP-specific antibodies, has been introduced in many laboratories. Therefore, the clinical assessment of the method is needed to provide primary diagnosis of syphilis at the moment. We evaluated 3 different manual rapid kits and ARCHITECT Syphilis TP comparing with RPR/FTA-ABS and analysed their diagnostic properties. From February 2006 to April 2008, 203 positive and 250 negative specimens, obtained from Chungbuk National University Hospital were used for the evaluation. In the evaluation between manual rapid kits, their specificities were as high as 99.2 ~ 99.6% while their sensitivities were observed with little differences; 98.0% (199/203) for Kit A, 96.6% (196/203) for Kit B, and 97.4% (197/203) for Kit S. In the case of ARCHITECT Syphilis TP test, it showed 100% specificity (250/250) and 98.5% sensitivity (249/250). Kappa values comparing with RPR/FTA-ABS were 0.978 for Kit A, 0.964 for Kit B and Kit S, and 0.987 for ARCHITECT Syphilis TP. From our evaluation, we found out that manual rapid tests and ARCHITECT Syphilis TP have very good clinical accuracies and high kappa agreements with RPR/FTA-ABS. Due to its automation and quick simultaneous diagnosis with another serological markers, we suggest that the ARCHITECT Syphilis TP is one of best suitable method for the primary diagnosis of syphilis and that it might be able to replace RPR method in the laboratories.

The classification of fingerprint images is to classify fingerprint images into varies fingerprint types, it is very important in automatic fingerprint recognition. In this paper, a new singular points detection technique was presented. A direction uniform measure is defined to describe the changes of direction fields in a certain neighborhood of fingerprint images. Singular points can be detected by adopting the measure. It should be pointed out that singular points in accurate positions would be obtained in this ways. And an improved Poincare exponential algorithm is presented to identify core points and triangle points. In this paper. making use of 102 experimental fingerprint images datas and attained 7.8% classification errors. This was better than experimental result of abstract [9]. It is possible to use on-line fingerprint images classification.

This paper describes two major techniques; image processing and gas vent insert and rejection control, for efficient gas vent exchange and holes detecting on the shoes mold. The key idea is to detect holes on the mold to select which holes to insert and to reject automatically guide center of hole's position. This allows us to save labor time while minimizing defective rate of PU shoes mold forming and production costs for gas vent exchange such as insertion and rejection.. Our experimental results have demonstrated that the hole's detection and gasvent exchange mechanism are more efficient and provide accurate mechanism to mitigate risks of vent injection/rejection failures.
