  • Vespa hornets are notorious predators of honeybees in Korean beekeeping. Detection of vespa hornet attacking on honeybee colony was tried through analysis of wing beat frequency profiling from Vespa mandarinia. Wing beat profiles of V. mandarinia during active flight and resting were distinctively different. From the wing beat profiling, algorithm of automated detection of vespa attack was encoded, and alert system was developed using Teensy 3.2 and Raspberry pi 3. From the laboratory testing, the prototype system successfully detected vespa wing beats and delivered the vespa attack information to the user wirelessly. Further development of the system could help precision alert system of the vespa attack to apiary.

  • Smart grid is a network of computers and power infrastructure that monitor and manage energy usage efficiently. Recently, the smart grid demonstration projects around the world, including the United States, Europe, Japan, and the technology being developed. The protection of the many components of the grid against cyber-threats has always been critical, but the recent Smart grid has been threatened by a variety of cyber and physical attacks. We model and analyze advanced metering infrastructure(AMI) in smart grid. Using attack countermeasure tree(ACT) we show qualitative and probabilistic security analysis of AMI. We implement using SHARPE(Symbolic Hierarchical Automated Reliability and Performance Evaluator) tool and calculate probability, ROA, ROI, Structure Importance, Birnbaum Importance.

  • As smart mobile devices having touchscreens are growingly deployed, a pattern lock system, which is one of the graphical password systems, has become a major authentication mechanism. However, a user's unlocking behaviour leaves smudges on a touchscreen and they are vulnerable to the so-called smudge attacks. Smudges can help an adversary guess a secret pattern correctly. Several advanced pattern lock systems, such as TinyLock, have been developed to resist the smudge attacks. In this paper, we study an automated smudge attack that employs machine learning techniques and its effectiveness in comparison to the human-only smudge attacks. We also compare Android pattern lock and TinyLock schemes in terms of security. Our study shows that the automated smudge attacks are significantly advanced to the human-only attacks with regard to a success ratio, and though the TinyLock system is more secure than the Android pattern lock system.

  • As attacks in cyber space become advanced and complex, monotonous defense approach of one-one matching manner between attack and defense may be limited to defend them. More efficient defense method is required. This paper proposes multi layers security scheme that can support to defend assets against diverse cyber attacks in systematical and adaptive. We model multi layers security scheme based on Defense Zone including several defense layers and also discuss essential technical elements necessary to realize multi layers security scheme such as cyber threats analysis and automated assignment of defense techniques. Also effects of multi layers security scheme and its applicability are explained. In future, for embodiment of multi layers security scheme, researches about detailed architecture design for Defense Zone, automated method to select the best defense technique against attack and modeling normal state of asset for attack detection are needed.

  • WebView is a vital component in smartphone platforms like Android, Windows and iOS that enables smartphone applications (apps) to embed a simple yet powerful web browser inside them. WebView not only provides the same functionalities as web browser, it, more importantly, enables a rich interaction between apps and webpages loaded inside the WebView. However, the design and the features of WebView lays path to tamper the sandbox protection mechanism implemented by browsers. As a consequence, malicious attacks can be launched either against the apps or by the apps through the exploitation of WebView APIs. This paper presents a critical attack called Supplementary Event-Listener Injection (SEI) attack which adds auxiliary event listeners, for executing malicious activities, on the HTML elements in the webpage loaded by the WebView via JavaScript Injection. This paper also proposes an automated static analysis system for analyzing WebView embedded apps to classify the kind of vulnerability possessed by them and a solution for the mitigation of the attack.

  • When entering the PIN(personal identification number), the greatest security threat is shoulder surfing attack. Shoulder surfing attack is watching the PIN being entered from over the shoulder to obtain the number, and it is the most common and at the same time the most powerful security threat of stealing the PIN. In this paper, a psychology based PINpad technology referred to as DAS(Dynamic Authentication System) that safeguards from shoulder surfing attack was proposed. Also, safety of the proposed DAS from shoulder surfing attack was tested and verified through intuitive viewpoint, shoulder surfing test, and theoretical analysis. Then, a PINpad with an internal DAS that was certified for its safety from shoulder surfing attack was designed and produced. Because the designed PINpad significantly decreases the chances for shoulder surfing attackers being able to steal the PIN when compared to the ordinary PINpad, it was determined to be suitable for use at ATM(automated teller machine)s operated by banks and therefore has been introduced and is being used by many financial institutions.

  • The latest attack type against network traffic appeared by worm and bot that are advanced in DDoS. It is difficult to detect them because they are diversified, intelligent, concealed and automated. The exisiting traffic analysis method using SNMP has a vulnerable problem; it considers normal P2P and other application program to be harmful traffic. It also has limitation that does not analyze advanced programs such as worm and bot to harmful traffic. Therefore, we analyzed harmful traffic out Protocol and Port analysis. We also classified traffic by protocol, well-known port, P2P port, existing attack port, and specification port, apply singularity weight to detect, and analyze attack availability. As a result of simulation, it is proved that it can effectively detect P2P application, worm, bot, and DDoS attack.

  • DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is a critical threat to current Internet. To solve the detection and response of DDoS attack on BcN, we have investigated detection algorithms of DDoS and Implemented anomaly detection modules. Recently too many technologies of the detection and prevention have developed, but it is difficult that the IDS distinguishes normal traffic from the DDoS attack Therefore, when the DDoS attack is detected by the IDS, the firewall just discards all over-bounded traffic for a victim or absolutely decreases the threshold of the router. That is just only a method for preventing the DDoS attack. This paper proposed the mechanism of response for the legitimated clients to be protected Then, we have designed and implemented the statistic based system that has the automated detection and response functionality against DDoS on Linux Zebra router environment.

  • Internet banking service has a advantage that is unrestricted by time. If automated programs are able to attack Internet banking services, a number of accounts can be attacked at the same time and as a result, damage will be considerably increased. To cope with such attacks, two methods, VPS and MS watermark, were introduced by Arcot and MS respectively. The methods use text-based CAPTCHAs in the process of transfer approval to distinguish automated programs from legal human users. In this paper, we point out the security threats of the methods when those are applied to Internet banking services. Especially, we consider the attack that are performed by extract specific string from text-based CAPTCHAs and it's countermeasure. Also we suggest a method of enhancing security of internet banking services. Our method is based on contents-based CAPTCHAs that are consist of known transfer information between user and server.
