  • A graphic vehicle modeling pre-processing program and a visualization post-processing program have been developed for AutoDyn7, which is a special program for vehicle dynamics. The Rapid-App for GUI(Graphic User Interface) builder and the Open Inventor for 3D graphic library have been employed to develop these programs in Silicon Graphics workstation. A Graphic User Interface program integrates vehicle modeling pre-processor, AutoDyn7 analysis processor, and visualization post-processor. In vehicle modeling pre-processor, vehicle hard point data for a suspension model are automatically converted into multibody vehicle system data. An interactive graphics capabilities provides suspension modeling aides to verify user input data interactively. In visualization post-processor, vehicle virtual test simulation results are animated with virtual testing environments.

  • For the auto-landing operation of an air vehicle, the possibility of auto-landing operation should be first evaluated by testing the navigation performance through a flight test. In general, navigation performance is tested by analyzing north/east/down (NED) errors relative to reference equipment whose precision is about 8~10 times higher than that of a navigation system. However, to evaluate the auto-landing operation of an air vehicle, whether the air vehicle approaches a glide path aligned with the runway, within a specific error, needs to be examined rather than examining the north/east errors of the navigation system. Therefore, the longitudinal/lateral errors of air vehicle heading need to be analyzed. In this study, a method for analyzing the longitudinal/lateral errors of a navigation system was proposed as the navigation performance test method for evaluating the safety during the auto-landing of an air vehicle. Also, flight tests were performed six times, and the safety of auto-landing was examined by analyzing the performance using the proposed method.

  • The vehicle aerodynamic crosswind characteristics are mainly governed by the coefficient of side force and yawing moment. These performances affect not only the driving comfort which can be felt by driver but also the safety due to the instability of vehicle. The aims of this investigation are to improve the aerodynamic crosswind performance of sedan vehicle under the crosswind conditions. In order to improve the crosswind stability, numerical analysis has been performed by modifying the rear body shape of vehicle. As the results, we observed about 20% reduction of yawing moment coefficient relative to the base vehicle.

  • This paper formulates the parameter estimation of cornering behavior of a vehicle. Especially some vehicle parameter is very important on stability control of chassis by ECU, but some parameter is so hard to get by sensor which parameter is included the nonlinear characteristic of tire cornering force. So we need to deduce that parameter from used signal and numerical method. In this study, we propose a estimation method and present the simulation by parameter estimation technique.

  • The periodic technical vehicle inspection is to prevent the accident through the finding and fixing the defects of the vehicle. The periodic technical vehicle inspection in Korea was studied for assessing the adequacy of the inspection frequency. The inspection frequencies of many countries including EU, USA and Japan were compared. The average mileages by the vehicle usage and type were represented. The warranty period and recommended replacement period of parts of the domestic auto makers was studied. Currently, the inspection frequency for the periodic technical vehicle inspection in Korea is appropriate. The pass-fail rate and the cost-benefit analysis for the periodic technical inspection in Korea will be needed in the decision making process for the inspection frequency.

  • The windshield of a vehicle plays an important role in ensuring driver safety and maintaining visibility. To prevent issues such as frost and mist from occurring inside and outside the vehicle, research related to the defrosting performance of the windshield is being conducted. Evaluating defrosting performance requires accurate thermal flow analyses. Therefore, in this study, a defrosting duct was constructed within a chamber at an actual vehicle scale to evaluate its performance, and a finite element model was developed and verified. To evaluate defrosting performance, the temperature of the windshield was measured under condition with a mass flow rate of 0.1 kg/s, which corresponds to that of a typical midsize vehicle. A total of 45 thermocouples were arranged at equal intervals of 9 widths and 5 lengths on the windshield to measure the temperature and compare it with the temperature predicted through finite element analysis. A volume grid was created in the main flow area to ensure accurate thermal flow analyses, and a prism layer was added at the interface between the windshield and fluid. In total, 6 million grid systems were formed. Comparing the temperature fields of the experimental results and the finite element analysis results confirmed a similar defrosting pattern, with an average temperature difference of 0.64K.

  • Designing actuator controllers of aircraft, which control aileron, flap, elevator and so on, is quiet difficult, because they have time variant nonlinear mechanical structures and also have many kinds of disturbances which are not been able to model easily. This paper reports about the performance of Fuzzy Auto gain tuning Control algorithm applied unmaned aerial vehicle. Fuzzy Auto gain tuning PID control uses PID control and Fuzzy control, therefore It can be applied very easily and it also has advances of PID control. It can control a unmaned aerial vehicle actuators adaptively even though the designer does not have enough information of plant.

  • In this study, a AGV(Auto Guide Vehicle) is presented and the dynamic characteristics of AGV driving device is investigated. The design factors of hydraulic pump and motor is an important component for it's performance characteristics. the dynamic characteristics of hydraulic pump and motor is simulated by using commercial code AMESim. Simulation results show that each behavior can be predicted with changing the various parameters.

Compare Characteristics of Neck Injuries between Rear Impact Pulse and NCAP Pulse (후방 충돌 펄스와 NCAP 펄스 차이로 인한 목상해 특성 비교)

  • The whiplash is the most important issue of low speed rear-impact. So auto makers are committed to developing a seat to improve whiplash injury. Most NCAP tests have been used by same pulse (Mid Velocity 16kph). Only Euro NCAP uses different pulse that consists of Low, Mid, High velocity. But Euro NCAP also uses same pulse in Mid velocity as other NCAP test. That Mid velocity NCAP pulse was made by rear impact that has 90's vehicle structure properties. That pulse was used until now days. However these days, auto maker use more high tensile steel than 90's as customer and society demand more fuel efficiency and light vehicle with good safety structure. So modern vehicles have different pulse patterns of rear impact than NCAP pulse and 90's vehicle crash properties. In this paper, the test was conducted by following condition. Target car was impacted by the rigid barrier with certain velocity. Finally target vehicle gained delta V 16kph which was same velocity as NCAP Mid Velocity pulse. It is critical velocity which occur long period neck injury. It is very different pulse that was gained by real car impact from NCAP pulse. And it has higher peak G with high fluctuation and short duration than NCAP pulse.

Current Status and Future Prospects for The Car Recycling System in Korea (자동차 리싸이클링의 현황과 과제)

  • The Korean Auto industry has developed remarkably over the past 30 years. In 2000 alone, Korea produced 3.11 million vehicles, and the number of vehicles registered surpassed the ten million mark. As the number of vehicles registered in Korea has increased, yew after you, a rising number of cars have been scrapped. In 2000, a total of 455,592 automobiles were scrapped, up dramatically from only 101,158 in 1989. The system for handling of ELV(End-of-Life Vehicles) in Korea is governed by the "Motor Vehicle Control Act". The Act places the responsibility for vehicle scrapping directly on the vehicle owners. h vehicle owner can only can eel a vehicle registration after he gets a certificate from an authorized vehicle dismantler showing that his vehicle was properly scrapped according to the law. The take-back rate of ELV reaches nearly 100% in Korea. The vehicle scrapping process in Korea is very similar to those in other countries. fluids such as fuels and oils are first removed, and recyclable parts are collected and separated. Engines and transmissions are dismantled and recycled for use as raw material. Plastics, which are not easily reused, are generally treated as industrial wastes. The "Motor Vehicle Control Act" prohibits reuse of certain parts in order to guarantee the safety of the used auto parts. However, some restrictions on the reuse of auto parts have recently been eased to promote recycling. In this paper, additionally, car recycling policy of the foreign countries such as Japan, Germany and EU were reviewed.
