  • The UWB signal distortion in frequency selective channel has made it difficult to implement the channel estimator and the synchronizer of the UWB receiver. In this paper, we examine the performances of TR(Transmitted Reference) and DTR(Differential TR) UWB which use either reference pulse or differential method to estimate the channels. we also propose a FSK-based PRM(Pulse Repetition Modulation) UWB system as an another form of UWB system which is advantageous in frequency selective channel. Finally, resorting to statistical analysis, we examine the noise effect due to noisy reference at an auto-correlation(AcR) receiver. moreover, SNR dependance of the integration length in the AcR receiver is also investigated.

  • FlashLinQ, one of the typical D2D communication systems developed by Qualcomm, considers a single-tone communication based distributed channel-aware link scheduling method to realize the link scheduling process with low control overheads. However, considering the frequency selective fading effect of practical multi-path channel, the single-tone based SIR estimation causes a critical scheduling error problem because the received single-tone signal has quite different channel gain at each sub-carrier location. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a novel link scheduling method based on CAZAC (Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation) sequence for D2D communication system. In the proposed method, each link has a unique offset value set for the generation of CAZAC sequences. CAZAC sequences with the cyclic offsets are transmitted using multiple sub-blocks in the entire bandwidth, and then each device can obtain nearly full-band SIR using a good cyclic cross-correlation property of CAZAC sequence.

  • Recently, many on-line approaches to instrument channel surveillance (drift monitoring and fault detection) have been reported worldwide. On-line monitoring (OLM) method evaluates instrument channel performance by assessing its consistency with other plant indications through parametric or non-parametric models. The heart of an OLM system is the model giving an estimate of the true process parameter value against individual measurements. This model gives process parameter estimate calculated as a function of other plant measurements which can be used to identify small sensor drifts that would require the sensor to be manually calibrated or replaced. This paper describes an improvement of auto-associative kernel regression by introducing a correlation coefficient weighting on kernel distances. The prediction performance of the developed method is compared with conventional auto-associative kernel regression.

  • Small overlap crash caused fatal injury in real-world crash. IIHS(Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) proposed the small overlap test. The objective of this study is to analyze dummy injury criteria and dummy excursion on the sled reinforced body angle. Result of the comparisons of dummy injury criteria of a head, neck, and chest was best correlation between sled and vehicle test on base $angle+3^{\circ}$. However, lower extremity was not correlation because sled test could not copy of intrusion. There were a correlation between dummy movement and sled reinforced body angle. Sled reinforced body angle affects the lateral direction of excursion more than longitudinal excursion.

  • Background: The aim of this work was to investigate if serum and salivary auto-antibodies, isotypes IgG and IgM, against HER2 and MUC1 tandem repeat fragments could play a role in breast cancer screening. Materials and Methods: Our case-control study was conducted in breast cancer patients, in early stages (n=29), at the gynecology service, Maternity Souissi Hospital, Rabat, Morocco and healthy woman (n=31). Salivary and serum auto-antibodies against HER2 and MUC1 (tandem repeat) were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and compared between patients and healthy women using the Mann-Whitney U test. A P-value <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: Our data showed higher expression of all serum and salivary autoantibodies in patients as compared to healthy women p<0.05. However, serum IgM anti-MUC1 expression did not show a significant difference between cases and controls (p=0.79). Similarly, salivary IgG anti-HER2 expression did not differ (p=0.15). The correlation between the different isotypes of antibodies revealed that the highest correlation was between salivary IgG anti-HER2 and salivary IgG anti-MUC1(r=0.65). In fact, we have found in saliva the correlation between autoantibodies anti-MUC1 and anti-HER2 more important than in serum (r=0.59 and r=0. 55). However, the correlation between serum and saliva values for all antibodies was weak. Conclusions: Autoantibodies against HER2 and MUC1 may provide a useful approach in breast cancer screening when using both serum and saliva values.

  • An automatized latency calculation method of an e-OAE(evoked otacoustic emission) is proposed. The e-OAE signal measured from a normal adult is averaged 1000 times to remove noises. This averaged signal is converted to digital signal and that is processed by IBM-AT computer for latency calculation. we separate the stimulated and the emitted signal on the time domain by a modified LPC (linear prediction coding) spectrum, and the latency is calculated by cross-correlation method. By proposed latency calculation method the latency is 7.9[ms] for normal adult. The performance of the proposed method is also compared with that of the auto-correlation and cross performance of the proposed method is also compared with that of the auto-correlation and cross-correlation method. The result show that the proposed method has same precision with the conventional methods and can automatically calculate latency without subjective observation.

  • Dynamics of $CH_2CI$ group in ${\alpha},2,6$-trichlorotoluene dissolved in $CDCl_3$ was studied by observing various relaxation modes for $^{13}C$ under proton undecoupled condition. Partially relaxed $^{13}C$ spectra were obtained at $34^{\circ}C$ as a function of evolution time after applying various designed pulse sequences to this $AX_2$ spin system. It was found that nonlinear regression analysis of the relaxation data for these magnetization modes could provide the information about dipolar and spin-rotational auto-correlation and cross-correlation spectral densities for fluctuation of the $^{13}C-^1H$ internuclear vector in $CH_2Cl$ group. The results show that the effect of cross-correlation is comparable in magnitude to that of auto-correlation and the relaxation in this spin system is dominated by dipolar mechanism rather than spin-rotational one. From the resulting spectral density data we could calculate the bond angle ${\angle}HCH\;(105.1$^{\circ}$) and elements of the rotational diffusion tensor for $CH_2Cl$ group.

  • In case of Mindlin plate, not only the bending deformation but also the shear behavior is allowed. While the bending and shear stiffness are given in the same order in terms of elastic modulus, they are in different order in case of plate thickness. Accordingly, bending and shear contributions have to be dealt with independently if the stochastic finite element analysis is performed on the Mindlin plate taking into account of the uncertain plate thickness. In this study, a formulation is suggested to give the response variability of Mindlin plate taking into account of the uncertainties in elastic modulus as well as in the thickness of plate, a geometrical parameter, and their correlation. The cubic function of thickness and the correlation between elastic modulus and thickness are incorporated into the formulation by means of the modified auto- and cross-correlation functions, which are constructed based on the general formula for n-th joint moment of random variables. To demonstrate the adequacy of the proposed formulation, a plate with various boundary conditions is taken as an example and the results are compared with those obtained by means of classical Monte Carlo simulation.

  • Spatial variability is an inherent characteristic of soil, and auto-correlation length (ACL) is a very important parameter in the reliability or probabilistic analyses of geotechnical engineering that consider the spatial variability of soils. Current methods for estimating the ACL need a large amount of laboratory or in-situ experiments, which is a great obstacle to the application of random field theory to geotechnical reliability analysis and design. To estimate the ACL reasonably and efficiently, we propose a micro-structure based numerical simulation method. The quartet structure generation set algorithm is used to generate stochastic numerical micro-structure of soils, and scanning electron microscope test of soil samples combined with digital image processing technique is adopted to obtain parameters needed in the QSGS algorithm. Then, 2-point correlation function is adopted to calculate the ACL based on the generated numerical micro-structure of soils. Results of a case study shows that the ACL can be estimated efficiently using the proposed method. Sensitivity analysis demonstrates that the ACL will become stable with the increase of mesh density and model size. A model size of $300{\times}300$ with a grid size of $1{\times}1$ is suitable for the calculation of the ACL of clayey soils.

  • In this paper, electrical discharge machined (EDM) surfaces machined with various machining parameters are characterized and simulated. Three-dimensional surface topography of EDM surfaces are measured by a stylus instrument. Surface topography is characterized with auto-correlation coefficient and height probability density functions. Then, EDM surfaces are modeled and computer-simulated by using the non-causal 2-D auto-regressive model. Simulation results show that EDM surfaces are characterized well by a few parameters.
