A Study of Edge Detection for Auto Focus of Infrared Camera

  • In this paper, we propose an edge detection algorithm for auto focus of infrared camera. We designed and implemented the edge detection of infrared image by using a spatial filter on FPGA. The infrared camera should be designed to minimize the image processing time and usage of hardware resource because these days surveillance systems should have the fast response and be low size, weight and power. we applied the $3{\times}3$ mask filter which has an advantage of minimizing the usage of memory and the propagation delay to process filtering. When we applied Laplacian filter to extract contour data from an image, not only edge components but also noise components of the image were extracted by the filter. These noise components make it difficult to determine the focus state. Also a bad pixel of infrared detector causes a problem in detecting the edge components. So we propose an adaptive edge detection filter that is a method to extract only edge components except noise components of an image by analyzing a variance of pixel data in $3{\times}3$ memory area. And we can detect the bad pixel and replace it with neighboring normal pixel value when we store a pixel in $3{\times}3$ memory area for filtering calculation. The experimental result proves that the proposed method is effective to implement the edge detection for auto focus in infrared camera.

  • This paper presents a lateral driver model with neuromuscular system to evaluate the performance of electric power steering (EPS). Output of most previously developed driver models is steering angle. However, in order to evaluate EPS system, driver model which results in steering torque output is needed. The proposed lateral driver model mainly consists of 2 parts: desired steering angle calculation and conversion of steering angle into steering torque. Desired steering angle calculation part results in steering angle to track desired yaw rate for path tracking. Conversion of steering angle into torque is consideration with neuromuscular system. The proposed driver model is investigated via actual driving data. Compared to other algorithms, the proposed algorithm shows similar pattern of steering angle with human driver. The proposed driver can be utilized to efficiently evaluate EPS system in simulation level.

  • Thousands of passengers and crews are onboard a cruise ship and there are many cabins and large public spaces such as atria and theaters. Therefore it is easy to cause a huge loss of life and damage to property when accidents happen at sea. To improve the safety of passenger ships, in October 2007, IMO proposed MSC.1/Circ.1238 on guidelines for evacuation analysis and recommended its use. However, this guideline is difficult to apply because ship designers need to get many pieces of information from CAD drawings such as width and length of stairs and corridors and manually calculate the evacuation time. In this paper, for practical application of the guidelines, an evacuation time calculation program is developed using AutoCAD .NET API library and C Sharp language.

  • There are two kinds of methods in the analysis of ship motion in irregular waves. The one is the spectral method in which the ship motion is assessed with spectral of irregular waves times R.A.O. of a ship. The other is, so called, time domain analysis, in which the irregular waves are used directly in the equation of ship motion to calculate the responses. In this paper, both methods are applied for the calculation of course keeping motion of a ship in irregular waves with auto-pilot control. And, the differences and useful1ness of the two methods in the assessment of auto-pilot system are compared.

  • Auto exposure (AE) in image signal processor (ISP) controls brightness of input image to the proper brightness when it is too dark or bright. But conventional AEs often fail to get proper brightness since AE controls only average brightness of image. Especially in applications that require object recognition, it cannot be solved the problem by AE of ISP. In this paper proposes Histogram Equalization (HE) processes that is the alternative of AE. It also proposes proper method to realize hardware and compensate HE problems conventional by using simple calculation.

  • Greenhouse gas is the big issue of the whole world. So foreign countries, EU, USA, Japan, China and Korea made the policy for reducing greenhouse gas. For calculation of reduction, it is necessary to know the quantity of current greenhouse emission per year in Korea. It is not reflected real driving condition for measuring the Fuel economy and greenhouse gas. The subject of this study is to figure out the characteristics which influence on greenhouse gas in real driving condition. And final goal is applying the policy greenhouse emission reduction.

  • We consider the irrational part of the basic pattern drafting of the Geo-Ko-ri so that we want to design it more scientically. So there are problems which is found after we considered with comparison about the existingly basic pattern drafting of Geo-go-ri. (1) there is a difference between the practical and Calculation. (2) The part of the curved line was mad indistinctly There is a difference betweence the calculating expression and calculating value. (4) There are some parts which lack objectivity about the reference size. (5) The calculating method of Collar-width and Neck-Nidth are not formative and rational. These are items that we must consider and study further. Especially if we can make up of the scientific form in consideration of the formativeness focused on "git" I think it will make a great contribution to not only the standardization of the basic pattern of Geo-go-ri and the use of the use of education but also the manufacture of individual clothing the production by Auto CAD.   • An air handling unit(AHU) has been usually designed by manual calculations. Drawing works together with design calculations should be redone far every designing work, and also be needed to make some corrections of them. In order to design the AHU more efficiently, an AHU program has been developed. The developed program on the Windows environment is operated by the graphic user interface(GUI) realized using the Visual Basic Interpreter. The program provides calculation sheet of coils, weights and pressures in a MS-Excel file format as well as design drawing of the AHU in a Auto CAD file format idealized by AutoLISP. Those files of the commercial softwares make easier for a designer to transfer design results to the another company for bid via e-mail.

  • This paper described the unbalanced voltage on the tertiary bus of a single Phase auto transformer in the case of parallel operation with different manufacturer at each Phase. The unbalanced capacitances between primary to secondary winding, secondary to tertiary winding and primary to tertiary winding makes unbalanced bus voltage in the tertiary bus side. The unbalanced voltage let the surge arrester to operate in the power frequency range, and it causes the arrester to burn out. The failure of the arrester at one phase makes line to ground fault, which lead to the surge arrester failure of the other two phase on the tertiary bus.

Equilibrium Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study for Transport Properties of Noble Gases: The Green-Kubo Formula

  • This paper presents results for the calculation of transport properties of noble gases (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe) at 273.15 K and 1.00 atm using equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations through a Lennard-Jones (LJ) intermolecular potential. We have utilized the revised Green-Kubo formulas for the stress (SAC) and the heat-flux auto-correlation (HFAC) functions to estimate the viscosities (${\eta}$) and thermal conductivities (${\lambda}$) of noble gases. The original Green-Kubo formula was employed for diffusion coefficients (D). The results for transport properties (D, ${\eta}$, and ${\lambda}$) of noble gases at 273.15 and 1.00 atm obtained from our EMD simulations are in a good agreement with the rigorous results of the kinetic theory and the experimental data. The radial distribution functions, mean square displacements, and velocity auto-correlation functions of noble gases are remarkably different from those of liquid argon at 94.4 K and 1.374 $g/cm^3$.
