Analysis on affective and cognitive effects of application development education using authoring tool for high-school students (고등학생 대상 저작도구 활용 앱 개발 교육의 정의적·인지적 효과 분석)

  • Due to the influence of the fourth industrial revolution in recent years, maker education is getting attention. Therefore, this study tried to propose the possibility of application (app) development education as maker education by empirically verifying the affective and cognitive effects of app development education using authoring tool. To do this, we implemented app development education in D high school in Seoul, Korea, and collected data from 41 participants. We analyzed the changes in attitudes toward SW education and creative problem-solving ability before and after the education by conducting the paired t-test, and the level of satisfaction and perceived achievement through descriptive statistics analysis. Also, the learner's responses collected through the open-ended questionnaire were analyzed qualitatively. The result showed that the attitude toward SW education and creative problem-solving ability showed statistically significant improvement after app development education using the authoring tool, and the learner's statement also supported this result. Also, satisfaction and perceived achievement after the education were relatively high. Through these results, we have empirically confirmed the effect of app development education using the authoring tool for high school students, and derived the theoretical and practical implications.

Implementation of a Template-Based Authoring Tool for Multimedia Content (템플릿 기반 멀티미디어 컨텐트 저작도구 구현)

  • Currently, the package tools and software development kits of Microsoft's Windows Media Technology provides users an environment to write, distribute and play multimedia contents. However, it is very difficult for common users to create a media streaming content using the Windows Media technology, because of its technical hardship. Therefore, we developed an easy-to-use authoring tool for multimedia streaming content which can be used in the Windows Media Technology environment. Our authoring tool is based on the web page templates by which HTML codes can be generated automatically. Using the existing streaming media authoring tool provided by the Microsoft, users have to code the temporal markers and the event script commands directly to the ASF(Advanced Systems Format) files or ASX (ASF Stream Redirector) format files. We developed an easy-to-use interface for insetting temporal markers and the event script commands to the ASF files by simple mouse clicking and dragging to minimize the effort of users for creating multimedia streaming content. In addition, we implemented an ASX file creation wizard that allows users to create ASX format file without coding ASX tags. We also implemented various web page templates where the ASF files and the ASX files can be embedded by just clicking the corresponding templates. The target web pages can be automatically generated from those templates and previewed directly on the web browser at the time of creation.

Contents Authoring Tool for Early Childhood Education (유아교육을 위한 콘텐츠 저작 도구)

  • This paper implements the graphic service template authoring tool based on the service template object model of describing the meta information of the services for early childhood education in the semantic web service environment. Our proposed system provides the robot services by constructing web services automatically and making the appropriate service plans. Moreover, it can create, append, delete, and update the service templates of URC based on STDL, and provide the graphic function on service template resources. In order to provide the user friendly environment in the service template phase, we implement the various editing environment : flow view style, grid view style, and text view style. We also provide the easy editing function by realizing abstract service block based on the robot API. Finally we can offer the intelligent and autonomous service of service agent based on semantic information.

  • SGML, defined as the ISO 8879, is a meta-language to define a document type, used as basic format for electronic documents. Since an SGML document is composed of a document type definition and a document instance conforms to the definition, it is necessary for SGML document authoring tools to compose and validate document type and document instance. In present, formal models and procedures for SGML documents are not defined, it's not easy to construct such tools. We propose a model of SGML authoring tool consists of SGML parser, document type definition editor, SGML document editor and style editor. We also introduce and implement formal procedure for each component. For user convenience, we adopted icon based visual programming method, and solved the HANGUL problems. The SGML authoring tool is implemented I Windows NT system using java and C++ programming language.

  • The proposed authoring tool with user's friendly interface provides to author multimedia animation lectures which can support the efficient environments of cyber educations. Coping with difficulties of merging and editing of each multimedia data provided to convert from multimedia generation properties to SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Language) files. The tool also helps lecturers to author the animation lectures easily. Futhermore, it can be easily transferred from multimedia contents to web page.

The Visual Display of Temporal Information for E-Textbook: Incorporating the Mind-mapped Timeline Authoring Tool

  • With the ever-increasing queries related to temporal (or time-related) information, such as the product launching time, in search engine, most web pages will be augmented with such information in the future. Meanwhile, the gradual emergence of the use of electronic textbooks (or e-Textbooks), which enrich the traditional paper-based textbooks with multimedia contents such as interactive quizzes and multimedia-based simulations, has led us to infer that e-Textbooks will be blended with temporal information to support learning. The use of temporal information helps teachers and students to understand the level of prior knowledge required to study a topic, as well as the sequence of learning activities and related sub-topics, that best attains the educational goals. This paper presents a simple yet efficient tool called TimeMap, which is based on mind mapping, to create an e-Textbook called TimeBook that takes account of time-related curriculum and the ability of students to learn via collaboration.

  • This paper describes a method of building a intelligent learning system consisting of a authoring tool, in the area of language education, and a Intelligent Tutoring System(ITS) to study English. This tool is different from commerical authoring tools, as a tool that has capabilities as a component of an ITS and this ITS is efficient to retrieve the lesson plan from the plan memory than to generate it whenever an instructinoal goal is selected. the results of this research could be used either by a developer of the other area of ITS, or by a human teacher as a curriculum in the actual class.
