  • The purpose of this study is to understand daily variation of short-wave radiation trends according to the state of surface and observation of atmosphere conditions in downtown and suburban observation area. The followings are main results from this study. 1) We found out daily air temperature variation of downtown is less than that of suburban area because of bigger heat capacity of artificial elements such as massive buildings and pavements. 2) It is more effective to estimate of air condition by water vapor pressure than relative humidity in the atmosphere. 3) The difference of solar radiation ratio between downtown and suburban area is dependant on different atmosphere conditions at two observation stations.

  • Recently, NiO films have been studied as a buffer layer to fabricate the superconductor with preferred orientation and as a diffusion barrier to prevent the reaction between superconductor and textured nickel substrate . We fabricated NiO films on textured Ni substrate by thermal oxidation with various variables of temperature, oxidation time, atmosphere, and cooling rate. We investigated the alignment of NiO films by XRD and pole figure and the microstructures by SEM. (200) <001> alignment of NiO film was observed at the oxidation condition of $1200^{\circ}C$ far 10min and slow cooling in O2 atmosphere. During the process in Ar atmosphere, we could also observe the thermal faceting which affects the alignment of NiO alms on Ni substrate.

  • In this study, we have investigated the structural and electrical characteristics of IZO thin films deposited under hydrogen atmosphere on flexible substrate for the OLED (organic light emitting diodes) devices. For this purpose, PES was used for flexible substrate and IZO thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering under hydrogen ambient gases (Ar, $Ar+H^2$) at room temperature. In order to investigate the influences of the hydrogen, the flow rate of hydrogen in argon mixing gas has been changed from 0.1sccm to 0.5sccm. All the samples show amorphous structure regardless of flow rate. The electrical resistivity of IZO films increased with increasing flow rate of $H^2$ under $Ar+H^2$. All the films showed the average transmittance over 85% in the visible range. The OLED device was fabricated with different IZO electrodes made by configuration of IZO/$\acute{a}$-NPD/DPVB/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al to elucidate the performance of IZO substrate. OLED devices with the amorphous-IZO (a-IZO) anode film show good current density-voltage-luminance characteristics. This suggests that flat surface roughness and low electrical resistivity of a-IZO anode film lead to more efficient anode material in OLED devices.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the characteristic of radiation environment in the urban and rural through the field observation in the summer. The radiation balance was compared through the measurement of the shortwave radiation and long-wave radiation in the urban, sub-urban, and rural. The following conclusion could be obtained from this research. (1) In the results of observation including the rain-day, it was found that the short wave radiance in the urban is lower about 10% than the rural. (2) The upper part of atmosphere layers in the urban area absorb much short wave radiation energies compared with the rural relatively. It can increase the temperature of the upper part of atmosphere layers and the emittance of long wave radiation. (3) The ratio of the downward short wave radiation to the downward long wave radiation was 1.24 for the urban, 1.28 for sub-urban and1.35 for rural. It can be estimated that the atmosphere condition of the rural is better than that of other areas.

  • The ZnSe epilayers were grown on the GaAs substrate by hot wall epitaxy. After the ZnSe epilayers treated in the vacuum-, Zn-, and Se-atmosphere, respectively, the defects of the epilayer were investigated by means of the low-temperature photoluminescence measurement. The dominant peaks at 2.7988 eV and 2.7937 eV obtained from the PL spectrum of the as-grown ZnSe epilayer were found to be consistent with the upper and the lower polariton peak of the exciton, $I_2$ ($D^{\circ}$, X), bounded to the neutral donor associated with the Se-vacancy. This donor-impurity binding energy was calculated to be 25.3 meV. The exciton peak, $I_1^d$, at 2.7812 eV was confirmed to be bound to the neutral acceptor corresponded with the Zn-vacancy. The $I_1^d$ peak was dominantly observed in the ZnSe/GaAs:Se epilayer treated in the Se-atmosphere. This Se-atmosphere treatment may convert the ZnSe/GaAs:Se epilayer into the p-type. The SA peak was found to be related to a complex donor like a $(V_{Se}-V_{Zn})-V_{Zn}$.

  • To seek an atmospheric heating mechanism operating on the Sun we investigated a heating source generated by a downflow, both of which may arise in a magnetic loop dynamically formed on the Sun via flux emergence. Since an observation shows that the illumination of evolving magnetic loops under the dynamic formation occurs sporadically and intermittently, we performed a magnetohydrodynamic simulation of flux emergence to obtain a high-cadence simulated data, where temperature enhancement was identified at the footpoint of an evolving magnetic loop. Unlike a rigid magnetic loop with a confined flow in it, the evolving loop in a low plasma β atmosphere is subjected to local compression by the magnetic field surrounding the loop, which drives a strong supersonic downflow generating an effective footpoint heating source in it. This may introduce an energy conversion system to the magnetized atmosphere of the Sun, in which the free magnetic energy causing the compression via Lorentz force is converted to the flow energy, and eventually reduced to the thermal energy. Dynamic and thermodynamic states involved in the system are explained.

  • This study analyzes the spatio-temporal variability of terrestrial carbon flux and the response of land carbon sink with climate factors to improve of understanding of the variability of land-atmosphere carbon exchanges accurately. The coupled carbon-climate models of CMIP5 (the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project) and CT (CarbonTracker) are used. The CMIP5 multi-model ensemble mean overestimated the NEP (Net Ecosystem Production) compares to CT and GCP (Global Carbon Project) estimates over the period 2001~2012. Variation of NEP in the CMIP5 ensemble mean is similar to CT, but a couple of models which have fire module without nitrogen cycle module strongly simulate carbon sink in the Africa, Southeast Asia, South America, and some areas of the United States. Result in comparison with climate factor, the NEP is highly affected by temperature and solar radiation in both of CT and CMIP5. Partial correlation between temperature and NEP indicates that the temperature is affecting NEP positively at higher than mid-latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, but opposite correlation represents at other latitudes in CT and most CMIP5 models. The CMIP5 models except for few models show positive correlation with precipitation at $30^{\circ}N{\sim}90^{\circ}N$, but higher percentage of negative correlation represented at $60^{\circ}S{\sim}30^{\circ}N$ compare to CT. For each season, the correlation between temperature (solar radiation) and NEP in the CMIP5 ensemble mean is similar to that of CT, but overestimated.

  • The main purposes of this study are to investigate the distributional characteristics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in the vapor and particulate phases in the ambient atmosphere, and to evaluate the effect of ambient temperature on the vapor-particle partitioning during the sampling period. A total of 64 samples were collected during a period of 1995 to 1996, using a medium-volume sampler with XAD-2 adsorbents and quartz fiber filters. Analyses of PAH were carried out using HPLC with UV and Fluorescence detections. In this study, a significant seasonal variation in the distributions was observed, reflecting the effect of ambient temperature on the vapor-particle partitioning of PAH. The relationship between the vapor-particle distributions of the 3 to 5 rings PAH and ambient temperature is considered to be well described using the Langmuir adsorption concept. The estimated empirical constants for each PAH in the relationship, particularly for the more volatile compounds, were also comparable with results from other studies. However, it is still difficult to accurately estimate the initial vapor-particle distribution of PAH in the ambient air, since it is not known to what extent the trapped vapours originated from the particles laden in the filter by being volatilized or from the air samples initially present in the vapour phase. The distribution factors for volatile PAH with 3 to 4 rings appeared to be comparable with those in the literature. It should be noted, however, that these distribution factors give information only about the distribution of PAH between the two phases under a specific sampling condition, and hence may provide only semi -quantitative information on the vapor-particle distributions in the atmosphere.

  • The centrifugal coating granulating system, a new method of preparing red ginseng extract pills, has been developed. The red ginseng extract was first powdered with 85.5% of edible ethanol and dried for 3 to 4 hours at 50$^{\circ}C$. The powders were fed in chamber of centrifugal coating granulating system and then granulated, sequentially. The centrifugal system operated at 20 to 50$^{\circ}C$ of inlet temperature, 1 to 1,000 g/min of feeding speed, 60 to 70$^{\circ}C$ of atmosphere temperature of intake, 3.0 to 4.0 bar of spray atmosphere pressure, 1,000 to 1,500 rpm of centrifugal plate speed and 25 to 40$^{\circ}C$ of outlet temperature. The product yield was about 85% and preparation time was 7 to 8 hours. Especially, major ginsenoside components of red ginseng were not decomposed after processing of red ginseng extract pill.

  • This paper is aimed at the development of a software that predicts the surface temperature profiles of three-dimensional objects on the ground by considering the spectral solar radiation through the atmosphere. The spectral solar radiation through the atmosphere is modeled by using the well-known LOWTRAN7 code which analyzes the detailed spectral transmission characteristics by considering the atmospheric gas layers. In this paper, the transient temperature distribution over a cylinder is calculated by using the semi-implicit method. The spectral radiative surface properties such as the absorptivity and emissivity of the objects are used to model the effects of the solar irradiation and the surface emission. Both the detailed spectral modeling and the simple total modeling for the solar radiation absorption show fairly good agreement with each other by showing less than 3% difference in surface temperature.
