  • The acceptance test of KTX has been performed in Korea. During the test lateral vibration of carbody over the accepted value called sway was found. Many activities have been taken to find the cause of the vibration and the counter-measure. KTX has 20 car trainset formation whose trailer cars are linked by articulate bogies. So this study is performed to see the effects of long trainset formation on vehicle dynamics and the train stability by 16 car vehicle model. Firstly the reliable vehicle model which shows well the tendencies appeared in the tests on the high speed test line is required to find the cause of lateral vibration and the countermeasure. Vehicle model was made for the analysis with VAMPIRE. The analysis results show that secondary air spring lateral stiffness is the most significant parameter to cause carbody lateral vibration. Mode analysis results show that the least damped mode shape is similar to the vibration pattern shown in the tests that the amplitude of the motion increases along the train set and decreases in the tail part. The lateral vibration was appeared at the speed range between 100km/h and 200km/h and disappeared at the low speed and the high speed.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the effect of trunk stability exercise on various support base and posture on gait speed, static and dynamic balance performance. Methods : Included 17 persons with stroke who were living in the community. Trunk stability exercise program was conducted three times per week, 50 minutes per session, for 8 consecutive weeks. Subjects were tested with 10 m walking test(sec), multidirectional reach test (cm), timed get up and go test(sec) and K.A.T.3000 at both (pre and post treatment) time points. Paired t-test was used to exam mean differences between pre and post treatment by using SPSS 12.0. Results : After 8 weeks exercise program, there were significant differences in gait speed, static and dynamic balance performance(p<0.05). Conclusion : This study have shown that trunk stability exercise on various support base and posture improve physical functions(gait speed, static and dynamic balance performance).

  • The turbopump inducer cavitation is very important for the success of a Liquid rocket engine. In this study the performance test and cavitation performance test were carried out at various rotational speed with two different diameter inducers. The rotational speed were varied 4000, 6000, 8000 rpm and the variation to the diameter of an inducer were taken as design size and 2 times enlarged size. The major results of the present study were as follows. 1. The hydraulic performance results showed that the similarity was met over the entire test range of the present study. 2. The blade thickness effect was examined and showed that the increased blade thickness resulted in decreased efficiency and worse cavitation performance for large tip clearance. 3. The cavitation performance test results showed that the breakdown NPSH increases as the flow coefficient and does not affected by the rotational speed.

  • An experimental modal analysis and dynamic stiffness evaluation of a moving body structure of a high speed machining center are presented in this paper. The natural frequencies and corresponding modes, and dynamic compliance of a moving body structure of high speed machining center are investigated by using F.E.M., hydraulic exciter test, and impulse hammer test. The lowest three natural frequencies were found to be 56.6 Hz, 112.7 Hz, and 142.7 Hz by FEA respectively, while those were 55 Hz, 112 Hz, 131 Hz by experimental analysis. Furthermore, both computed and measured absolute dynamic compliances of the moving body structure in iso-direction showed good agreement especially at the first two mode frequencies. With our experimental data, the dynamic characteristics of the machining center can be exploited to get a new development of structural dynamic design and modification.

  • In the design process of dynamic characteristics of a railway vehicle, demand for analysis, testing and estimation methods of running stability are increasing as railway vehicle speed is increasing. Critical speed tests and estimation have been carried out using computer simulation or special test facilities, like roller rigs, because real track testing at critical speed is very dangerous. This paper introduces a test and assessment method for critical speed and estimates the validity using several roller rig tests. The test results show that it is difficult to estimate the critical speed using safety and instability assessment method in UIC 518, but that there is good agreement between the reduction of the equivalent damping ratio and the critical speed.

  • As a recent technical approach, a high-speed planing hull was tried to realize a friction reducing system by simultaneously actuating the triple streamlined step hull form in association with optimum speed of 35 knot planing for fishing boat. In this approach, the streamlined step hull form with triple structure of type was attached under the bottom of high-speed planing hull, while a friction resistance is reduced in the process of running at the speed of 35 knot. In addition, this research was to make a performance test as to the manufactured product and acquire the purposed values and the development items. Actually, after manufacturing the desired prototype of high-speed planing hull, the significant items, fuel efficiency (second) and amount of fuel consumption (degree) including maximum speed (knot) were estimated for a performance test. And tensile strength (MPa) and bend strength (MPa) as to the completed prototype like a high speed planing hull were also acquired during the test.

  • The effects of shear speed and tip height on the high speed shear test of Sn-3.0wt.%Ag-0.5wt.%Cu ball joints were investigated. Solder balls of $450{\mu}m$ in diameter were reflowed at $245^{\circ}C$ on a FR4 PCB (Printed Circuit Board) in order to obtain a sample for the high-speed shear test. The UBM was comprised of Cu/Ni/Au, and the shear speed and tip height varied from 0.5 to 3.0 m/s, and from 10 to $135{\mu}m$, respectively. According to the experimental results, faster shear speed enhanced the shear strength of the solder joints, regardless of the tip height. The fraction of ductile (solder) fracture decreased when the shearing speed was raised from 0.5 to 3.0 m/s. With an increasing tip height from 10 to 50 and $135{\mu}m$, the fracture mode changed from pad lift to mixed (ductile and brittle) and ductile fracture, respectively, while the shearing energy also increased in the same order. The shear energy had a proportional relationship with the fraction of the solder fracture.

  • It is hard to find experimental data for a model test of small high-speed planning boats. It is difficult to verify the performance seen in a model test for a high-speed boat because the ship-model scale-ratio is very small and the flow velocity of the circulating water channel and the X-carriage speed of the towing tank are restricted. Therefore most hull-form designs for high-speed small boats depend on the sea-trial test result for similar boats or evaluation through numerical calculations. This study investigated the anti-rolling effect of the stern sub-body in a 50-knot doss planning boat. To carry out this work, new model test procedures were set up in the actual sea. Using this method, the anti-rolling effect of the stern sub-body was investigated. A stern sub-body attached to a planning boat was proved to be effective in reducing the roll and pitch angle.

  • Piston assemblies, which are key components of hydraulic high pressure pumps & motors, are major failure products operating at high pressure and high speed, and the main failure mode is wearout of the shoe surface. To predict the actual life of piston assemblies. we require to find out the most sensitive parameters and establish related empirical formula. In this study, we analyzed the life of piston and shoe assemblies in accordance with variation of speed, pressure, and temperature to reduce the life test time, then analyzed the result of combined accelerated life test which is applied by high speed, speed pressure, and high temperature simultaneously, and finally developed combined accelerated life test model.

  • The aerodynamic effect on platform during the train passage, the results of field test on the high-speed railway platform are discussed and the whole test results and conclusions are synthesized. The field test for the high-speed railway have been conducted on the Osong temporary platform in the newly constructed Seoul-Busan high-speed line and total 12 measurements have been conducted for G7 train and KTX train. The results shows that the high-speed trains have similar aerodynamic characteristics and have far better characteristics referring to the conventional trains such as Saemaul and Mugungwha trains. To discuss the actual aerodynamic effects on the platform at its own operational speed, Beaufort wind scale have been introduced and the criteria for the safety on railway platform has also been discussed.
