  • The Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) networks are being adopted as backbones over various parts of Internet. Also, TCP is one of the most widespread transport protocols, nowdays. It can be used with ATM. But, TCP shows poor end-to-end performance on ATM networks. Effective throughput of TCP over ATM can be quite low when cells are dropped at the congested ATM switch. The low throughput is due to wasted bandwidth as congested link transmits cells from corrupted packets. This paper examines the behavior of TCP over ATM with limited bandwidth in a broadband environment. As multiple VBR sources occupies most of the available bandwidth, there has been a starvation effect, so TCP sources couldn't get the chance of transmitting data. Also, throughput is proportional to the amount of buffer.

  • In the area of factory automation (FA), a lot of researches are being executed about intelligent system using network. Conventional industry controllers are implemented the connection with other controllers by using asynchronous serial communications. These methods of communication have an advantage of easy implementation but have disadvantages of lack of real-time characteristics needed in motion control, slow baud rate too low to exchange required data sufficiently and low integrity because of different communication protocol. Serial real-time communication system (SERCOS) provides international standard communication specifications (IEC 61491) for interfacing between control units and drives from different manufacturers, has real-time ...

  • Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) has enabled a visually appealing, browser-based application for the display of Brassica sequences relative to Arabidopsis thaliana, and there are currently more than 70,000 B. napus Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) displayed. The client side of this browser is based on a Custom Graphical User Interface (CGUI) library which uses SVG, a new web graphics standard, to provide windowing functionality inside the web browser. This windowing functionality, combined with asynchronous data retrieval and client side rendering overcomes two of the key technology imposed drawbacks of current web based browsers: Fixed displays and frequent page reloads. The end result is an intuitive and enjoyable browsing experience. The browser is accessible online from the Brassica / Arabidopsis Genomics Initiative (http://brassica.agr.gc.ca). Inquiries about the browser should be directed to LewisCT@agr.gc.ca.

  • This paper has simulated the PER(Packet Error Rate), ratio of received packet and payload BER of Bluetooth system with packet types of ACL(Asynchronous Connection Less) and SCO(Synchronous Connection Oriented) link over wireless Ad-hoc environment. AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) and Rayleigh fading are considered as channel model, and the analysis is based on the baseband model of Bluetooth system. In terms of PER and ratio of received packet, performance of DM1 packet is almost same as those of HV1, HV2 and HV3 packets, the performances of the other packets depend on the packet types. In terms of payload BER performance, there is no difference among HV2 packet of SCO link and DM1, DM3, DM5 packets of ACL link. Moreover, there is no difference among HV3 packet of SCO link and DM1, DM3, DM5 packets of ACL link, too.

  • Recently, Broadband ISDN(B-ISDN) has received increased attention as a communication architecture which can support multimedia applications. Also, Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) is considered as a promising technique to transfer and switch various kinds of media, such as telephone speech, data and motion video. Comparisons among a variety of ATM switching systems which have already been proposed will provide quite useful information for the new ATM switching system design. To facilitate the comparison, we introduce the design requirements and classification criteria for the ATM switch, and propose a performance analysis model for the Banyan network which is the basic switching fabric of most multi-stage ATM switching systems. The model is based on the standard discrete-time Markov chain analysis and can be conveniently used for extensive Banyan network analysis. The computational results are also presented.

  • In this paper, we propose the enhanced priority control algorithm that adaptively controls the cell service ratio according to the relative cell occupancy ratio of buffer. The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) provides the means to support various multimedia services in broadband networks. To support multimedia services, various data traffics of different priorities should be controlled effectively. And also it needs congestion control functions required in the netowrk to carry out the control operation. To accomplish this in a flexible and effective manner, priority classes for the different services ar ecommonly used. The proposed enhanced priority control mechanism have two service calsses of the delay sensitive class and the loss sensitive class. The simulation results show that te proposed control mechanism improves the QoS, the charateristics of cell loss probability and mean cell delay time, by selecting propeor relativ ecell occupancy ratio of buffer and the average arrival rate.

  • Leading MAC protocols developed for duty-cycled WSNs such as B-MAC employ a long preamble and channel sampling. The long preamble introduces excess latency at each hop and suffers from excess energy consumption at non-target receivers. In this paper we propose AS-MAC (Asynchronous Sensor MAC), a low power MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSNs). AS-MAC solves these problems by employing a series of preload approach that retains the advantages of low power listening and independent sleep schedule. Moreover AS-MAC offers an additional advantage such as flexible duty cycle as data rate varies. We demonstrate that AS-MAC is better performance than B-MAC through analysis and evaluation.

  • As real-time processing of data with large storage space is required in the era of multimedia, disk arrays are generally used as storage subsystems which be able to provide improved I/O performance. To design the cost-effective disk array, it is important to develop performance models which evaluate the disk array performance. Both queueing theory and simulation are applicable as the method of performance evaluation through queueing modeling. But there is a limit to the analytical method using queueing theory due to the characteristics of disk array requests being serviced in the parallel and concurrent manner. So in this paper we evaluate the disk array performance using simulation method which abstract disk array systems in the low level. Performance results were evaluated through simulation, so that mean response time, mean queueing delay, mean service time, mean queue length for disk array requests and utilization, throughput for disk array systems, can be utilized for capacity planning in the phase of disk array design.
