  • The present work proposes new engineering models for determining corrosion initiation time in concrete reinforcing steels in marine environment. The models are based on Fick's second law that is commonly used for chloride diffusion. The latter is based on deterministic analyses involving the most influencing parameters such as distance of the concrete structure from the seaside, depth of steel concrete cover, ambient temperature, relative humidity and the water-cement ratio. However, a realistic corrosion initiation time cannot be estimated because of the uncertainties associated to the different parameters of the models. Therefore a reliability approach using FORM/SORM method has been applied to develop the proposed engineering models integrating a limit state function and a reliability index β. As a result, the corrosion initiation time is expressed by new exponential engineering models where the uncertainties are associated to the model parameters. The main emerging result is a realistic decision tool for corrosion planning inspection.

  • Data confidentiality refers to the characteristic that information kept undisclosed or hidden from unauthorized parties. It considered a key security requirement in current supply chain management (SCM) systems. Currently, academia and industry tend to adopt blockchain and IoT technologies in order to develop efficient and secure SCM systems. However, providing confidential data sharing among these technologies is quite challenging due to the limitations associated with blockchain and IoT devices. This review paper illustrates the importance of preserving data confidentiality in SCM systems by highlighting the state of the art on confidentiality-preserving methodologies in the context of blockchain based IoT-SCM systems and the challenges associated with it.

  • The article discusses the use of modern technologies in the learning process. It has been determined that the modern period of the development of society is characterized by a strong influence of computer technologies on it, a new education system is being formed, focused on entering the world information and educational space. This process is accompanied by significant changes in the pedagogical theory and practice of the educational process associated with making adjustments to the content of learning technologies, which should be adequate to modern technical capabilities, and contribute to the harmonious entry of a teenager into the information society. Computer technologies are designed to become not an additional "makeweight" in training, but an integral part of a holistic educational process, significantly increasing its effectiveness

  • We discuss several key technologies of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) that share common features of all organic displays (AODs). An overview of the morphological effects associated with molecular ordering at interfaces on the Crystallinity and the carrier mobility in organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) is given from the viewpoint of the alignment mechanism for LCDs. Recent progress of improving the carrier mobility in the OTFTs is also reviewed.

  • Rock mass characterization is an integral part of rock engineering design. Much of the information for rock mass characterization comes from field fracture mapping and data collecting. This paper describes two technologies that can be used to assist with the field mapping and data collecting activities associated with rock mass characterization: digital image processing and 3D laserscanning. The basis for these techniques is described, as well as the results of field case studies and an analysis of the error in estimating fracture orientation.

  • This paper reviews the combat survivability and supermaneuverbility which are principal factors in current and future high performance combat aircraft design. First of all, the fighter agility evaluation factors were presented. And then, emphasis was put on technologies associated with supermaneuverbility, such as vortex lift, high angle of attack aerodynamics, thrust vectoring and control system technologies that integrate each technology. The advanced nations' supermaneuverbility R/D programs were introduced as well.

  • One of the most important aspects in structural health monitoring is the detection of fatigue damage. Structural components such as heavy-duty bolts work under high dynamic loads, and thus are prone to accumulate fatigue damage and cracks may originate. Those heavy-duty bolts are used, for example, in wind power generation and mining equipment. Therefore, the investigation of new and more effective monitoring technologies attracts a great interest. In this study the acoustic emission (AE) technology was employed to detect incipient damage during fatigue testing of a M36 bolt. Initial results showed that the AE signals have a high level of background noise due to how the load is applied by the fatigue testing machine. Thus, an advanced signal processing method in the time-frequency domain, the Hilbert-Huang Spectrum (HHS), was applied to reveal AE components buried in background noise in form of high-frequency peaks that can be associated with damage progression. Accordingly, the main contribution of the present study is providing insights regarding the detection of incipient damage during fatigue testing using AE signals and providing recommendations for further research.

  • Speedy development has been witnessed in communication technologies and the adoption of the Internet across the world. Information dissemination is the primary goal of these technologies. One of the rapidly developing nations in the Middle East is Saudi Arabia, where the use of communication technologies, including mobile and Internet, has drastically risen in recent times. These advancements are relatively new to the region when contrasted to developed nations. Thus, offenses arising from the adoption of these technologies may be new to Saudi Arabians. This study examines cyber security awareness among Saudi Arabian citizens in distinct settings. A comparison is made between the cybersecurity policy guidelines adopted in Saudi Arabia and three other nations. This review will explore distinct essential elements and approaches to mitigating cybercrimes in the United States, Singapore, and India. Following an analysis of the current cybersecurity framework in Saudi Arabia, suggestions for improvement are determined from the overall findings. A key objective is enhancing the nationwide focus on efficient safety and security systems. While the participants display a clear knowledge of IT, the surveyed literature shows limited awareness of the risks related to cyber security practices and the role of government in promoting data safety across the Internet. As the findings indicate, proper frameworks regarding cyber security need to be considered to ensure that associated threats are mitigated as Saudi Arabia aspires to become an efficient smart nation.

  • This paper empirically traces out the determinants of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) progress. Using cross-national evidence, it is found that a country's income level and its distribution affect the ICT progress, through their influences on home market demand pattern. This result holds even when controlling for other variables that affects ICT progress and a sub-sample of less developed countries. Based on the findings, it is possible to conjecture that ICT progress can be a plausible reason for the income polarization in the world. In addition, a country with higher levels of human capital accumulation and financial development is positively associated with the ICT progress, although the effects depend on the sample and model specifications. However, these results are based on crude theoretical backgrounds and estimations, which require for further studies in the future.
