  • The research aims to identify factors affecting the use of government export marketing assistance programs and future improvements of the programs. 500 Korean exporting firms were used as a sample and research hypotheses were tested by the structural equation modeling using AMOS 7.0. The empirical findings are as follows. First, exporting firms' awareness of export marketing assistance programs showed a positive impact on their use of the programs. Second, small exporters showed higher awareness and use of the programs than large ones. Third, the firms with low export intensity showed higher awareness and use of the programs than those with high export intensity. Fourth, exporters having high orientations for overseas market showed higher awareness and use of the programs than those with low international orientations. Fifth, exporters having high proportion of direct exports showed higher awareness and use of the programs than those with low proportion of direct exports. Also, the effects of these firm-specific characteristics on the use of the programs were found to be done indirectly, in other words, through the awareness of the programs. Therefore, it was concluded that export marketing assistance program would be differentiated and specialized to fit in with exporters' different exporting stages and needs. Also, in order to increase the use of the programs, exporters' awareness and knowledge of the programs have to be increased in advance.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The study objectives were to examine the participation rate in food assistance programs and explore the factors that contribute to such participation among the Korean elderly population. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The study sample comprised 3,932 respondents aged 65 years or older who were selected from a secondary data set, the fourth Korean Welfare Panel Study (KoWePS). The factors, related to participation in programs were examined based on the predisposing, enabling and need factors of the help-seeking behavior model. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to select the best contributors among the factors related to program participation. RESULTS: The predisposing rate in food assistance programs was 8.5% (7.1% for men and 10.4% for women). When all variables were included in the model, living without spouse, no formal education, low income, having social security benefits and food insecurity in elderly men, and age, low income, having social security benefits and feeling poor in elderly women were significantly related to a higher tendency to program participation. CONCLUSIONS: The predisposing and need factors, such as living without spouse, low education level, food insecurity and feeling poor were important for program participation, as well as enabling factors, such as household income and social security benefits. A comprehensive approach considering these factors to identify the target population for food assistance programs is needed to increase the effectiveness and target population penetration of these programs.

  • Recently, the performance and function of electrical and electronic system in automotive vehicles is developing at a rapid rate with the advancement of IT technologies. Combined together with micro-controller and sensor technologies, the Vehicle Smart System (VSS) being developed to improve driver's convenience and comfort has been employed to a variety of applications. In addition to the convenience system, the Auto-parking Assistance System (AAS) that is now attracting a new attention has been already applied to some vehicles, but it is currently limited to luxury car models only. In this paper, we present a fuzzy controller that enables autonomous parking assistance without the AAS. The controller can perform the assistance with information provided from moving status, current position and steering angle as one is able to park a car based on his/her experience and knowledge for driving and parking. We have evaluated its performance of the proposed controller by simulation and tested the excellence of the controller by building a model vehicle embedded with the micro-controllers.

  • For safe walking of the people who are blind, walking assistance robot which can detecting and avoiding the obstacle was investigated. The implemented prototype walking assistance robot consists of a obstacle detecting module, a user interface using acoustic signal and a driving module. The obstacle detecting module uses 6 ultrasonic sensors those located at the front part of the robot can perceive the obstacle which is in 3 meter distances and $180^{\circ}$ degrees. It calculates the distance and degree from the obstacle using TOF (time of flight) method and decides the 3-dimensional location of the obstacle. The obstacle information is delivered to the user using acoustic alarm and guide sound. The robot is designed to avoid by itself when the obstacle is detecting and the user only follows it to safe walking. After the designed robot was implemented, driving and obstacle detecting experiments were carried out. The result showed that the designed walking assistance robot will help the people who are blind to walk around safe.

  • This study examined the Korean drivers' acceptance of SAS(Speed Assistance systems) and traffic sign conditions in Korea roads for SLIF(Speed Limit Information Function) that is a part of SAS. Exceeding the speed limit is a factor in the severity of many road accidents and SAS would help the driver to observe a speed limit by warning and/or effectively limiting the speed of the vehicle. SAS are in the initial phase in Korea, Korean drivers could not be familiar with automatical speed limiting during driving, SAS interface design would be considered to be more readily acceptable to the public. And advanced SAS have been introduced onto the market which are able to inform the driver of the current speed limit based on camera and/or digital maps based SLIF. These systems are based on external data using sensors, so environmental conditions are an important factor which could cause malfunction of SLIF functions.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to confirm job satisfaction, job performance, and turnover intention according to dental hygienists' clinical assistance and preventive work. Methods: The collected data (N=380) were analyzed with independent t-tests and Pearson correlations using SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0 (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). Results: The results indicated that the higher the overall job satisfaction of the dental hygienist, the higher their job performance and the lower their turnover intention (p<0.05). The results of the comparison of job satisfaction showed that preventive work was higher than dental hygienists' clinical assistance in all items except "I was pleased with work" (p<0.05). The results of the comparison of job performance showed that preventive work was higher than dental hygienists' clinical assistance in all items except "I have never complained, even if things go wrong" (p<0.05). The results of the comparison of turnover intention showed that clinical assistance was higher than dental hygienists' preventive work in all items (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that job satisfaction, turnover intentions, and job performance have positive effects for preventive work. Therefore, dental clinics need to improve the actual environment so that dental hygienists can focus on preventive work.

  • In the U.S., the state, local, tribe, and territorial governments seek funding from the federal government through the Public Assistance program to carry out these recovery works. In this paper historic public assistance data between 1998 and 2021 have been analyzed to derive several insights such as: types of disasters causing the most damage, states requiring more support, net present value of the federal expense etc. This paper has found that the states requiring more support from the federal government are not always the states suffering the maximum losses from the disasters. It has also found that the net present value of the federal expense between 1998 and 2020 to restore, repair, reconstruct, or replace disaster damaged roads and bridges across the U.S. is $15 billion in 2021 values. Moreover, this paper has tested the correlation between the states' public assistance funds requirements and the existing condition and performance of roads and bridges as revealed by the American Society of Civil Engineer's infrastructure grade card. It has found a weak correlation between these two. The outcomes of this paper can be used by the decision makers to analyze the viability of any possible alternative to the exiting public assistance program. The insights can also help in better decision making in pre-disaster preparation and post-disaster funds allocation.

  • This paper recognizes the motion intention of the wearer using a muscle stiffness sensor and proposes a control system for a wearable robot based on this. The proposed system recognizes the onset time of the motion using sensor data, determines the assistance mode, and provides assistive torque to the hip flexion/extension motion of the wearer through the generated reference trajectory according to the determined mode. The onset time of motion was detected using the CUSUM algorithm from the muscle stiffness sensor, and by comparing the detection results of the onset time with the EMG sensor and IMU, it verified its applicability as an input device for recognizing the intention of the wearer before motion. In addition, the stability of the proposed method was confirmed by comparing the results detected according to the walking speed of two subjects (1 male and 1 female). Based on these results, the assistance mode (gait assistance mode and muscle strengthening mode) was determined based on the detection results of onset time, and a reference trajectory was generated through cubic spline interpolation according to the determined assistance mode. And, the practicality of the proposed system was also confirmed by applying it to an actual wearable robot.

  • The disaster preparedness system in Korea has been developed in spite of many obstacles, but there are still many problems for response to various kinds of disasters in 21th century. Disaster response system in Korea was focused on policy, administration, hardwares in the past. But in the future it is necessary to change the system to adapt the global needs about the human based disaster response system and capacity to assist the international disaster by official assistance and research for that field. Because nearly all the disasters are associated with the safety, welfare, injury, disability and survival of human, health disaster preparedness and response system should be a important part in the whole disaster system considering the common value of human right to disaster preparedness for human.
