  • This paper presents the test results to evaluate the healthiness of the ballast in subway. The test includes the dynamic load test in servicing Line the screen classification test of aggregates and the wear test. From the results, the aspect and the property of the ballast are evaluated. The dynamic load tests explain the relationship between the deterioration of the ballast and the fluctuation of loads. The assessment of impact factor based on the field test results in a good property of test blocks is proposed.

  • The measurements were performed to assess the insulation deterioration condition of the stator winding of Dae-Cheong hydro-generator ${\sharp}2$ which had been in service after being constructed 1980. After repair of the stator winding insulation. we conducted insulation diagnostic tests which include resistance, polarization index(P. I). AC current, dissipation factor($Tan{\delta}$) and partial discharges ($Q_{max}$). The results of diagnostic tests were compared to the previous records. On the basis of these test results. this paper tried to present the importance of insulation repair for the generator stator winding.

  • Heat cycle aging of insulating materials in large generator stator winding has been investigated using both on-line and off-line test methods. On this study, principally, off-line test against actual generator in service was carried out to acquire information about polarization index(PI) and dissipation factor, dissipation factor tip-up, maximum partial discharge for the purpose of remnant breakdown voltage and life assessment. It was found from the tests that both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge decreased with the increase of operating hours and starting numbers. It was found from off-line tests that the remnant breakdown voltage had a strong relationship with both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge the remnant breakdown voltage as a results of both operating hours and starting number and the nondestructive tests were proposed as parameters which can predict the remnant lifetime of insulating materials in large generator stator windings. • Reinforced-concrete structures built on the seashore or in seawater are damaged from flying-salt of chloride ion in the seawater. Recently many bridges are being constructed under marine enviornment and there are many serious problems of chlofide attack owing to penetration of chloride ion. And up to now it has not only so little a seatch about damage from flying-salt and seawater but also little systematic study outcome about steel corrosion. In this study we investigate the concrete deterioration and steel corrosion of RC bridges on the seashore. Environmental conditions are investigated, and compressive strength, carbonation depth and steel-corrosion degree are measured.

  • Waterproofing materials and construction methods have been developed and applied to various construction sites since the past. However, there many cases where the waterproofing performance is not satisfactory, leading to continuous water leakage. It has been observed that a key reason for this is because waterproofing method and material selection is not optimized in terms of the appropriate application area and environmental degradation factors. This paper proposes that future selection of waterproofing methods should consider the following evaluation criteria; 1) waterproof performance evaluation according to site conditions, 2) evaluation of construction method, 3) manufacturing and maintenance of waterproofing systems.

  • This paper describes to access the insulation deterioration condition of the stator windings in six high voltage motors. Nondestructive tests have been carried out on stand-still motors. These tests include ac current increase rate($\Delta$I), delta tan delta(${\Delta}tan{\delta}$), and maximum partial discharge(PD). AC current and $tan{\delta}$ were measured by Schering bridge. The measurement of PD patterns were conducted using digital partial discharge detector. PD patterns were observed treeing and internal discharges in Motor 1 and 2. The stator windings of two motors were found to be in a poor condition and their were recommended to rewind. The stator. windings of four motors were judged to be in serviceable condition.

  • The prime objective of many facial wrinkle-reduction treatments is to achieve visible improvement. Thus the visibility of before/after treatment differences is often part of an efficacy assessment. This paper investigates whether the background knowledge of the people acting as observers in such assessments is of impact on the results: e.g. the subjects themselves are familiar with their faces, skin professionals have much experience in judging skin quality, and thus both might be more sensitive to small changes. In a clinical study 44 Female subjects were regularly treated during a period of 12 weeks with one of three wrinkle-reduction methods: K, Land M (placebo). Photographs were taken before treatment and at 6 and 12 weeks. The photographs were judged by 3 types of observers:ㆍ24 Lay observers were given the 0&6-week and the 0&12-week photo pairs of all subjects to indicate the one with the least wrinkles in a two-alternative forced-choice (TAFC) procedure.ㆍThe subjects themselves were given the 0&6-weel and the 0&12-week pair of their own photos (8 replications) to indicate the photo with the least wrinkles (TAFC).ㆍA trained panel of skin professionals (N=3) each gave 9-point Fitzpatrick wrinkle-severity scores for all individual 0-week and 12-week photos. We found that the lay observers perceived the same differences as the subjects themselves: significant improvements after 12 weeks for treatment K (p<0.0005 and p=0.005, respectively), no visible effects for treatments Land M, and, most importantly, a significant difference between treatments K and M/placebo (p=0.02 and p=0.04, respectively). Also the trained panel found this difference between K and M (p=0.013), but here it was due to a significant deterioration over time of the 'placebo-treated' wrinkles (M, p=0.03). Thus in conclusion we have found no indications that extra knowledge - in the form of familiarity with the own face or in the form of professional training - results in the identification of more treatments that show significantly visible wrinkle-reduction.
