The subject of assessing whether a data set is from a specific distribution has received a good deal of attention. This topic is critically important for uniform distributions. Several parametric tests are compared. These tests also can be used in testing randomness of a sample. Anderson-Darling $A^2$ statistic is found to be most powerful.

In this paper, we propose a new technique of estimating tail of steady-state queue length distribution; Pr(Q>q), fo ATM multiplexer. Pr(Q>q) is a fundamental measure of network congestion. Assessing Pr(Q>q) properly is crucial for design and control of ATM networks. Data traffic pattern of high-speed networks is highly correlated and bursty. Estimating Pr(Q>q) is very difficult because of correlation and burstiness. We estimate entropy(rate-function) using large deviation principles and threshold bootstrap. Simulation studies are conducted to compare the performance of an existing method and our new method.

As an alternative to traditional life testing, degradation tests can be effective in assessing product reliability when measurements of degradation leading to failure can be observed. This article presents an accelerated degradation testing for vacuum fluorescent displays (VFDs). The accelerated degradation model is based on Arrhenius-lifetime relationship for cathode temperatures. We compare the results between accelerated degradation test and test at normal use condition. Accelerated degradation test for display devices is observed as an efficient method to warrantee product reliability to customers, as well as a tool to save time and costs.

A test method for assessing service life of building materials and components based on performance degradation data is developed. The performance of a building material degrades as time goes by and the failure of the material is often defined as the point at which the performance of the material reaches a pre-specified degraded level. A performance-based test method is developed and a numerical example is provided to illustrate the use of the developed test method.

This paper describes the result of proficiency testing by inter-laboratory comparisons for braking lining. Proficiency testing provides an objective means of assessing and demonstrating the validity and reliability of test results produced by laboratories. To more accuracy comparison test for braking lining test, they will be made the same test procedure and environment conditions.

Greenbelt Zones or park areas such as cave areas have strong zoning restrictions that prevent developments. However, whenever it is needed to free the restrictions for development, planning departments are faced with the problems of which part in the area should select. Especially when households are scattered in small groups, there must be a clear guidelines in order to determine the areas having high potential for development while minimizing resistance from the residents. The methodologies should include means to incorporate many different aspects of decision elements. This study presents strategies to choose groups of residents by employing the concentration index of them and means to incorporate preferences among different decision factors using the AHP method.

This paper provides FE and experimental validation of the defect assessment method for strength mismatched welded structures, resulting from the Brite Euram SINTAP (Structural Integrity Assessment Procedures for European Industry) project. This shows that the proposed method is conservative, and that the degree of conservatism is similar to that embedded in the methods for homogeneous structures. It provides confidence in the use of the proposed SINTAP method for assessing defective weld strength mismatched structures.

The inventory maps of landslide deposits show where landsliding has occured in the past, and serve as a general guide to slope stability. Isopleth maps derived from those inventory maps, generalized and quantify the areal distribution of landslide deposits in contour form. Isopleth maps can provide an economical means for the recognition of landslide activity and assessing the degree of landslide hazard in a large area, especially rural areas. Isopleth maps of Bonggye area, where the degree of landslide hamedial efforts during the period of 1954-1971.
