Fish assemblages in the coastal waters off Gampo in the East Sea of Korea were analyzed using the samples of fishes collected with pot nets June, September, and December 2005 and March 2006. During the study period, a total of 19 fish species representing 10 families in 4 orders were collected. The fish assemblages predominantly consisted of Conger myriaster, which accounted for 38.9% of the number of individuals and 52.2% in the biomass. The next major specimens were Takifugu niphobles, Sebastes schlegelii, Chaenogobius annularis, Hexagrammos agrammus and Hexagrammos otakii. These five fishes accounted 44.1% of total number of individuals and 37.3% of total biomass. The number of fish species was the highest in March 2006 and the lowest in December 2005. The number of individuals and biomass were the highest in September in 2005 and the lowest in December in 2005.
This is a study of the fish assemblages in eelgrass beds of Geoje Bay on Geoje Island, Korea. Samples were collected by surf net monthly from June 2006 to May 2007. A total 26 species, 1,825 individuals, and 4,483.1 g of fishes were collected. The dominant species were Acentrogobius pflaumii, Aulichthys japonicus, Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Rudarius ercodes, Chaenogobius annularis, Gymnogobius urotaenia, Syngnathus schlegeli, Pterogobius elapoides, Zoarchias glaber, Takifugu niphobles, Zoarchia suchidai. These species accounted for 90.6% of the total number of individuals and 76.2% of the biomass of the fishes collected. The fish assemblages in the eelgrass beds showed clear seasonal changes; the number of fish species and individuals increased in March and were highest in September, whereas the biomass attained its highest level in May and subsequently decreased. Meanwhile the species diversity indices showed their highest value in December.
The fishing grounds of Korean large-pair trawlers have shifted since exclusive economic zones (EEZs) were established in a fisheries agreement involving countries neighboring Korean waters. The distributions of marine ecosystems and fisheries resources have been changing with environmental changes such as global warming and with the shift in species targeted as a result of changes in fishing technology and fishing gear. This study analyzed variation in the species assemblages caught in Korean waters by large-pair trawlers as a result of these geopolitical and environmental changes. The data used in this study were obtained from the Fishery Production Statistics of Korea and the Port Sample Survey of the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) from 1990 to 2007. Hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) and correspondence analysis (CA) were used to explore the characteristics of the catch-species composition. The overall variation in the species composition of the catch of Korean large-pair trawlers showed that the proportions of croaker Johnius grypotus, small yellow croaker Larimichthys polyactis, eel Anguilla japonica, and blue crab Portunus trituberculatus decreased, whereas those of hairtail Trichiurus lepturus, Spanish mackerel Scomberomorus niphonius, anchovy Engraulis japonicus, and common squid Todarodes pacificus increased in Korean waters over the 18-year period. The results of the HCA of the annual catch data by species showed four different distributions of fish species according to year. Results of the CA showed that the species assemblages differed between the 1990s and 2000s.
Monthly fish samples were collected using bottom gill nets and analyzed to study species composition and seasonal variation of fish assemblages in the coastal waters off Gadeok-do, Korea in 1998. During the study period, a total of 49 fish species representing 30 families were collected. The fish assemblages predominantly consisted of Limanda yokohamae, which accounted for $53.3\%$ of the number of individuals and $42.2\%$ in the biomass. The fish species, which had over 100 individuals, included Cynoglossus abbreviatus, Ditrema temmincki, Hexagrammos otakii, and Stephanolepis cirrhifer. These four species accounted for $24.1\%$ of the number of individuals and $24.3\%$ of the biomass. More fish species were collected in May and June than in any other months. The number of individuals and the amount of biomass peaked in April and May and reached a low in August. While the predominance of L. yokohamae caused the lowest species diversity by number of individuals in April, the predominance of Platycephalus indicus caused the lowest species diversity by biomass in July. Although gill nets show a strong selectivity for the target species or for size, gill nets can be used as an alternative fishing gear to collect fish in waters with rough bottoms, like rocky reefs, where other kinds of fishing gear such as trawls can not be used.
The purpose of this study is to examine the implications of Deleuze and Guattari's Machinism and Pedagogy of Assemblages. A slow, empirical process offered by Deleuze and Guattari is possible only if they experience a repetition of the duration in time. The identity of this world, a combination of potential and reality, is expressed as a machine. The identity of the 'machine' is the generation. The identity of the information society that exists everywhere in the cloud and unconsciously collects big data is also the information society. The information society is at risk of leaning toward a society in which individual desires are managed prior to the manifestation of a self-reliance a machine consisting of unmarked and mechanical arrangements. Social science based on the theory of layout shares the characteristics of repetition patterns, coexistence of linguistic and materiality, attention to boundary and negation to total whole. The pedagogy of layout, in which the collective pattern is structurally deformed in time, conforms to the original problem consciousness of Deleuze and Guattari, slow and empirical education. In addition, the work of examining the materiality and expression of the education-machine will contribute to the establishment of a new learning theory, an educational theory in the era of trans-human.
The line-SW is located in the mouth of Gomso Bay (20 Km long and 5-8 Km wide),west coast of Korea. This area is composed of sand flat, mud flat, sand shoal and chenier, The difference of physical, geological and geomorphic conditions in subenvironments of the bay may control and produce distingtive foraminiferal populations and assemblages. This study investigates whether five a priori subenvironments (five local zonations) in Gomso-Bay tidal flat can be distinguished from each other on the basis of total (living plus dead) foraminiferal assemblages. Seventy-four species (67 benthic; 7 planktonic) were recorded in total assemblages of surface sediments from 10 stations. Ammonia beccarii tepida, Discorbis candeiana, Elphidium etigoense and Eponides nipponicus were most dominant species in living and total assemblages. The relative abundance (%) of living population was high at upper flat and decreased from upper to lower flat. The low percentages of living populations in middle to lower flat are probably influenced by the decreasing reproduction of foraminifera caused by high energy condition and addition of dead species from offshore. The occurence of planktonic foraminifera in middle to lower flat (5.3∼6.6%) indicates introduction of planktonic foraminifera from offshore by storm and/or tidal current. The relatively high numbers of species in lower middle to lower flat are probably caused by a mixing of faunas from these areas and offshore. The high numbers of total individuals per 50 ml of sediment in upper flat indicate that this area is a relatively stable environment where waves and currents are protected by the chenier. Five biofacies of the total foraminiferal assemblages were established on the basis of dominant species (those representing more than 20% of the total assemblages in any station) in the five a priori subenvironments recognized along the Line-SW transect in Gomso-Bay tidal flat. Five biofacies are potentially useful in paleoenvironmental interpretation in late Quaternary Gomso-Bay tidal deposits.
This study described the spatial distribution of dinoflagellate cyst assemblages in the Ulsan Coastal Waters (UCW). Surface sediment samples from 15 stations revealed the occurrence of 33 species involving the Groups Protoperidinioid (51.5%), Gonyaulacoid (30.4%), Calciodineloid (9.1%), Gymnodinioid (3.0%), Diplopsallid (3.0%) and Tuberculodinioid (3.0%). The recorded cyst abundance in the UCW recorded was low ($260{\sim}1,680cysts\;g-dry^{-1}$) compared to Korean coastal waters. The abundance of heterotrophic cysts is higher in the Ulsan harbour and northwestern parts of UCW with eutrophic areas, however autotrophic species are more prevalent in the southern parts with open sea environments. The dinoflagellate cyst assemblages in the UCW were characterized by the dominance of Gonyaulax scrippsae, Protoperidinium sp. (Brigantedinium sp.), and Gonyaulax spinifera complex. The advent of the toxic dinoflagellate, Pyrodinium bahamense var. bahamense was recorded for the first time in the East-south sea of Korea. Therefore, as a result of ongoing monitoring and management for new toxic dinoflegallates from tropical or subtropical regions, analysis of dinoflagellate cyst assemblages in the UCW has been deemed necessary.
Giardia intestinalis infections arise primarily from contaminated food or water Zoonotic transmission is possible, and at least 7 major assemblages including 2 assemblages recovered from humans have been identified. The determination of the genotype of G. intestinalis is useful not only for assessing the correlation of clinical symptoms and genotypes, but also for finding the infection route and its causative agent in epidemiological studies. In this study, methods to identify the genotypes more specifically than the known 2 genotypes recovered from humans have been developed using the intergenic spacer (IGS) region of rDNA. The IGS region contains varying sequences and is thus suitable for comparing isolates once they are classified as the same strain. Genomic DNA was extracted from cysts isolated from the feces of 5 Chinese, 2 Laotians and 2 Koreans infected with G. intestinalis and the trophozoites of WB, K1, and GS strains cultured in the laboratory, respectively. The rDNA containing the IGS region was amplified by PCR and cloned. The nucleotide sequence of the 3' end of IGS region was determined and examined by multiple alignment and phylogenetic analysis. Based on the nucleotide sequence of the IGS region, 13 G. intestinalis isolates were classified to assemblages A and B, and assemblage A was subdivided into A1 and A2. Then, the primers specific to each assemblage were designed, and PCR was peformed using those primers. It detected as little as 10 pg of DNA, and the PCR amplified products with the specific length to each assemblage (A1, 176bp; A2, 261 bp; B, 319 bp) were found. The PCR specific to 3 assemblages of G. intestinalis did not react with other bacteria or protozoans, and it did not react with G. intestinalis isolates obtained from dogs and rats. It was thus confirmed that by applying this PCR method amplifying the IGS region, the detection of G. intestinalis and its genotyping can be determined simultaneously.

In this study, we analyzed the effects of the presence or absence of weirs on fish assemblages in wadeable streams (Stream order 1st~4th). More specifically, we investigated these effects by evaluating the differences in stream size. The results showed differences in the fish assemblages in third or higher order streams (PERMANOVA, P<0.005). The presence or absence of weirs mainly affected variables such as the number of species the individuals, and species richness index, whereas no difference was observed in the populations of exotic, endemic, and endangered species. A SIMPER analysis showed that the common species Zacco platypus, Zacco koreanus, and Pungtungia herzi are dominant in their corresponding streams (contribution>5%), and that these are the main contributors to differences among the fish assemblages. All these species showed high relative abundances at the sites with weirs. Altered environments by the presence of weirs provided these species with concentrated habitats. In summary, this study analyzed the effects of weirs on fish assemblages on a broad, nationwide, scale, and these results can effectively aid future studies on the specific effects of weirs.
Staurolite-biotite-andalusite-garnet (SBAG) assemblage and its sub-assemblages (SBA and SBG) commonly occur in the Dueumri Formation near the Chunyang granite, belonging to andalusite and sillimanite zones. The occurrence of the SBAG mineral assemblage is unusual because it is univariant in the $K_2O-FeO-MgO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2-H_2O$ (KFMASH) model system. We used projection and singular value decomposition (SVD) methods to investigate the equilibrium relationship between SBAG and its sub-assemblage. The SVD modelling of single specimen containing the SBAG assemblage suggests no reaction relationship with respect to mass-balance. Thus, the SBAG assemblages are stabilized by non-KFMASH component. On the other hand, the AFM-Mn projection suggests a reaction relationship between SBAG and its sub-assemblage because they intersect each other in this composition space. The SVD modelling, however, suggests no reaction relationship between these assemblages. Thus, the SBAG assemblages are likely to be stabilized by the variation in bulk-rock composition and/or 1.1~2,. The stable occurrence of staurolite in the sillimanite zone is compatible with pressure estimates from the garnet-plagioclase-biotite-muscovite geobarometer.
